Get to know 2016 FSU football opponent Syracuse (tomahawknation.com; Kidd)

The Syracuse Orange will start a new era under Dino Babers in 2016. A member of the Art Briles coaching tree, Babers heads to Syracuse after two years spent at Bowling Green, where he went 10-4 in 2015. Coach Babers looks to bring a heretofore unseen style of offense to the ACC, which SB Nation's Ian Boyd detailed.

Last year's contest at Doak Campbell saw the Seminoles notch a 45-21 victory on Halloween. The 'Noles pulled away from the Orange in the second half behind Sean Maguire's strong day, featuring 23 completions on 35 attempts for 348 yards and three touchdowns. The victory also produced the highlight of Travis Rudolph's career to date.

2015's edition of the Orange finished 61st in the nation on offense and 70th on defense, and the 4-8 campaign prompted a regime change in Central New York. The 2016 roster features plenty of experience returned at the offensive skill positions, but the offensive line will essentially be starting from scratch. New defensive coordinator Brian Ward, who followed Babers from Bowling Green, inherits plenty of returning experience towards the back end of his unit. For the Orange, it's all about how quickly the new staff can get its system to take hold. While they're faced with the unfortunate task of hosting Louisville in a week two Friday night contest, most of their more difficult games do take place in the back half of the season, including the one against your Florida State Seminoles the weekend before Thanksgiving.

The Five Games That Will Make or Break Syracuse Football's 2016 Season (TNIAAM; Keeley)

According to the Win-Loss Projections, there are five games that will truly determine whether or not the 2016 season ends in November or December.

Yesterday, the 2016 Syracuse Orange football team got the Bill Connelly Treatment. It's fairly-required reading so get to that.

You don't have to agree with everything, take what you want to take and let's see what happens. But if you believe that the numbers don't lie, then there's some very stark numbers worth looking at in the Win/Loss Probabilities.

Syracuse fans not thrilled with Gophers-themed semi in Mark Coyle's neighborhood (startribune.com; Stensaas )

When Mark Coyle left his post as Syracuse AD last month for the same job at Minnesota, a stunned Orange football coach Dino Babers blinked to reporters at the ACC spring meetings: "Are you serious?"

Yes, Dino. Coyle up and left. He's been in Dinkytown for a week now but apparently not everything is here along with him just yet.

An eagle-eyed TV weatherman in Syracuse spotted a Gophers football semi-truck in the area Wednesday.

The folks at syracuse.com took it a step further, dispatching a reporter to Coyle's former home in the Syracuse suburb of Dewitt. Upon arrival, the giant maroon and gold vehicle was parked in the cul-de-sac.

Photos of the truck on the news website clearly show the "Allied Van Lines" moving company logo on the steps of the truck.

Minnesota tugged Coyle back home (southernminn.com; Weisbrod)

Roughly 10 months ago when the University of Minnesota began its search for a new Athletics Director to replace Norwood Teague, Mark Coyle was a happy man.

At the time, he was still relatively new at Syracuse and was immersing himself into the Orange culture. The university boasted top-notch men’s and women’s basketball programs, a nationally-recognized lacrosse team and emerging soccer and football programs.

“It was very good at Syracuse,” Coyle said Wednesday morning at the Owatonna Country Club. “We had great support. We had a lot of special things there.”

As content as Coyle was in upstate New York, Minnesota kept tugging. He was not only pulled toward the Twin Cities by an insistent search firm hired by University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler, but in many ways, Minnesota has always been home to Coyle, and that attracted him as well. The north Iowa native spent time at Minnesota from 2001 to 2005 as a marketing executive and two of his children attend the University.

NASA will hold an international convention on drones this fall in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. The convention will focus on air traffic management issues posed by the fast-growing technology. NASA will hold international convention on drone research in Syracuse
(PS; Weiner)

NASA has decided to hold an international convention in the Syracuse area this fall that will attract up to 600 of the world's top drone researchers from business, government and academia.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul is expected to announce NASA's plans at a press conference with Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and local business leaders Thursday afternoon in Cicero.

State officials declined to confirm the agreement Wednesday. But two sources briefed about the convention said it represents a significant coup for the region as it tries to transform itself into a center for drone research and development.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, has been leading research into how to manage an expected boom in air traffic from the operation of low-altitude unmanned aerial systems, or drones, across the nation.

The convention will take place at sites in Central New York and the Mohawk Valley that are affiliated with NUAIR Alliance, a nonprofit consortium that runs one of six national test sites for drones authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration, the sources said.

NUAIR conducts many of its tests at the former Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome. The press conference Thursday will be held at the headquarters of SRC Inc. in Cicero, one of the NUAIR business partners.

12. Zaire Franklin, Syracuse. Franklin is a sure thing on a defense that lacks proven punch among its front-seven. The multi-year starter and team captain had a team-best 81 stops last season, and he is expected to be fine this fall after an injury limited him this spring.
