Welcome to Ballpoint Pen Day!
Ballpoint Pen Day is celebrated on June 10th in honor of the Bíró brothers, László and György, who are credited with the invention of the ballpoint pen. On this day, in 1943, the Bíró brothers filed an application for the patent of the ballpoint pen with the European Patent Office. These early pens became the first commercial models of the ballpoint pen. Later on, the patent rights were purchased by British Parliament and the pens were used by the Royal Air Force during World War II. The ballpoint pen serves two major functions that makes them so important: the ball acts as a cap to close in the ink and keep it from drying, and the ball lets the user control the rate at which the ink comes out of the pen. These two innovations came in very handy for the Royal Air Force because the ballpoint pens could be used without a problem at high altitudes with reduced pressure. The previously used fountain pens flooded.

Recruiting Roundup: Syracuse in final 12 for Jordan Wright, offers Tyreke Smith (the juice; Cheng)
Congratulations to Syracuse hurdler Freddie Crittenden III for qualifying for the NCAA Finals, which will take place later today! On to today’s recruiting links…
2017 Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) defensive lineman Jordan Wright tweeted out his top 12 schools on Thursday, and Syracuse made the cut. The Orange is in elite company, with Alabama, Baylor, Michigan and Mississippi State among the other schools on that list. He has a three-star rating from 247 Sports.
However, Syracuse did not make the cut for another coveted prospect, Shaquon Anderson-Butts. The 2018 wide receiver tweeted out his top 3 earlier in the week, which consists of Penn State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia. Left off that list were Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple.
2018 defensive end Tyreke Smith tweeted out that he received an offer from Syracuse on Thursday. The Ohio native also is considering Iowa State, Toledo and Cincinnati.
Syracuse.com’s Stephen Bailey writes about the strong relationship between Syracuse quarterback commit Tommy DeVito and wide receiver target Eddie Lewis. The 2017 NJ wide receiver recently picked up an offer from Syracuse, and also holds offers from Boston College, UNC and Rutgers, among others.

After a strong junior season, Tye Freeland's recruitment has been gaining momentum recently.
The 6-foot, 175-pound Freeland has scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Rutgers, Marshall, Temple and Syracuse among others. Out of all the schools, Freeland said Syracuse and Wake Forest are recruiting him the hardest.
As for camps this summer, Clemson will be Freeland's next stop and he'll also head to Tennessee, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, NC State and California in the near future.
