Welcome to World Sea Turtle Day!

World Sea Turtle Day, June 16, is a day used to honor and highlight the importance of sea turtles. These creatures, like any other creature, are magnificent in their own way. Not only are sea turtles beautiful animals, but they also show incredible perseverance and resiliency– after all, they have been nesting on beaches for millions of years. So of course they deserve their own day dedicated to their awesomeness!

Syracuse Football: Orange Offensive Line Among Least Experienced in Entire FBS (TNIAAM; Menefee)

The Orange are returning just 34 career starts -- one of the lowest figures in the entire FBS.

The Syracuse Orange offensive line is going to have a lot of turnover this year, which can be a good or a bad thing depending on how you look at it. While it sets up well for a new coaching staff to start over, offensive line is an area where you like to see a lot of experience.

According to Phil Steele, the Orange are returning just 34 career starts combined on the offensive line this season. That's tied for a 110th out of 128 teams, and 14th (aka last) among ACC teams.

Of those starts, 30 are from RG Omari Palmer. LT Michael Lasker is the only other returning starter now after Seamus Shanley left the program.

The post spring depth-chart (which you shouldn't read too much into per Dino Babers), lists Lasker as first string left tackle, redshirt sophomore Aaron Roberts at left guard, redshirt senior Jason Emerich at center, Palmer at right guard, and redshirt juniorJamar McGloster at right tackle. Roberts and McGloster both saw playing time last season.

Get To Know Your Orange Man - #99, DE Jake Pickard (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

OFFSEASON OVER. IT'S TIME FOR "GET TO KNOW!"

Name: Jake Pickard
Position: Defensive End
Year: (Redshirt) Freshman
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 254
Hometown: Short Hills, N.J.
High School: Millburn
2015 Stats: Jake redshirted last year, so not a stat to be had. As a senior in high school, he was an all-conference selection on both sides of the ball in Essex County.
2016 Projections: Pickard is currently slated to be one of two starting defensive ends for a very young Syracuse Orange defense, according to the post-spring depth chart. Chances are he'll be able to do some damage in the Tampa-2.
How'd He Get Here?: Jake was all set to be a Wisconsin Badger, eat cheese and (once of legal age, of course) drink New Glarus up in Madison. Then head coach Gary Andersen headed to Oregon State, so he flipped to Syracuse. Plenty of big names were interested in Pickard coming out of high school, including Michigan, Boston College, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Purdue and many more.
What'd Recruiting Sites Say?: Three stars across the board. Huzzah!

Get To Know Your Orange Man - #95, DT Chris Slayton (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

Slayton, like the rest of the defensive line, will have his work cut out for him.
Name: Chris Slayton
Position: Defensive Tackle
Year: (Redshirt) Sophomore
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 297
Hometown: University Park, Ill.
High School: Crete Monee
2015 Stats: Playing in all 12 games (and starting five), Slayton tallied six tackles for loss and 22 total tackles.
2016 Projections: According to the current depth chart, Chris is your starting defensive tackle. While he's going to be much less blitz-focused than last year, he can still get to and surpass 2015's numbers pretty easily with the increased playing time.

Class of 2017 Florida WR Naquan Renalds Has Offer From Syracuse (orangeobserver.com; Ryzewski)

Recruiting buzz

Here is a rundown of some of the recruiting buzz for athletes competing out of West and Southwest Orange County following the spring season.

At West Orange, receiver Naquan Renalds, running back Darian Williams, receiver Jurrod Cook and quarterback Austin Burton all have received offers coming out of the spring season. Renalds has offers from FAU, Kentucky and Syracuse, with rising interest from other programs. Williams, who has had to wait his turn behind other talented backs at West Orange, has drawn interest from Coastal Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and Colorado State. Burton added an offer from FIU to a list that already includes UMass and Florida A&M, while Cook most recently picked up an offer from Florida A&M.

At Ocoee, the list of offers for Dorian Jones continues to grow and includes interest now from UMass, Coastal Carolina, UT-San Antonio and N.C. State, among others. Foundation Academy transfer Konrie Brown has also picked up an offer from UT-San Antonio. B.J. Bohler has been offered by The Citadel, West Florida and McNeese State and rising senior Lyston Barber is starting to draw interest from programs, as well.
