Welcome to National Orange Blossom Day!

National Orange Blossom Day is observed annually on June 27th. This day is set aside to enjoy Orange Blossoms for their aesthetic beauty. Orange blossoms have been used in culinary dishes, desserts, and teas worldwide. They add a slight citrus flavor to any dish!

Fragrant orange blossoms offer multiple health benefits when prepared correctly to make a tea or orange blossom water. Some of the advantages may include improved sleep, reduced anxiety and improved circulation.

Not surprisingly, the orange blossom is Florida’s state flower. Not only do the flowers result in the sweet as sunshine orange fruit, but thanks to the pollinating bees, we also get to enjoy a unique honey with a faintly orange flavor a delightful treat. The blossom’s scent goes into making perfumes and other fragrances for the home.

Hills West Grad Retires From National Football League (Longislandedrnews.com; Tantongco)

HILLS WEST GRADUATE STEPHEN BOWEN, WHO SPENT 10 YEARS IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE, ANNOUNCED HIS RETIREMENT ON JUNE 1. BOWEN, WHO PLAYED FOR THE COWBOYS, JETS AND REDSKINS, WAS A STAR FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL PLAYER FOR THE COLTS BEFORE GRADUATING IN 2002.

Days after announcing plans to retire from his career in the National Football League, Stephen Bowen returned to his alma mater Half Hollow Hills High School West on Tuesday to pass along advice to the school’s current athletes, including Cameron Jordan, a junior and wide receiver on the Colts varsity football team.

“He’s been through what I’ve been through,” said Jordan, who is pursuing a collegiate football career. “I’m in his shoes when he was a high school kid.”

Jordan and Bowen met for the first time last year. The 32-year-old former pro who most-recently suited up for the New York Jets visited High School West for game. The pair later met again in March when Hills West’s basketball team played Baldwin for the Long Island championship. Jordan is also a member of the Colts, just like Bowen was before he graduated in 2002.

The Colts were defeated by Baldwin, but Bowen took Jordan aside after the game and said to him, “Just keep working hard.”

This has resonated with Jordan.

“That meant a lot to me. It touched heart,” he said. “I look up to him.”

De La Salle's Allen Stritzinger one of state's top undecided recruits (usatodayhss.com; Dorsey)

One of the top uncommitted players in Michigan for the class of 2017 is Allen Stritzinger of Warren De La Salle. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect already has a solid list of offers, which includes Michigan, Syracuse, Cincinnati and a host of MAC programs. He is looking to add more scholarships in the coming weeks.

ranks Stritzinger the No. 11 player in Michigan and the No. 33 athlete prospect in the nation for the class of 2017.

The big question with Stritzinger is what position he will play at the next level. He has excelled on both sides of the ball for De La Salle and could potentially play running back, cornerback or safety in college.

2018 LB recruit Ovie Oghoufo digs MSU: ‘Love the program’

Michigan State has not offered Stritzinger a scholarship yet and that has a lot to do with figuring out what position he has the biggest upside at. Stritzinger talked about his plans for the coming weeks when it comes to camps and combines and his overall recruitment.

“I have picked up a few new offers, mostly from MAC schools, but I really like Syracuse,” Stritzinger said. “I will be camping at Sound Mind Sound Body, Michigan State, Penn State, Syracuse and Notre Dame as of right now.”

More than 1,000 celebrate Hotel Syracuse's revival (PS; Moriarty)

Suddenly, it was 1924 again at the grand lady of Central New York hotels.

Ninety-two years after its opening and 12 years after its closing, 1,100 people filled the Hotel Syracuse Saturday to celebrate its comeback.

They came for cocktails, dinner and dancing at "Forever Hotel Syracuse," a gala fundraiser for the Onondaga Historical Association, which has worked closely with new owner Ed Riley to ensure that his $70 million restoration of the hotel is historically accurate.

With 1920s vintage cars parked along South Warren Street and doormen wearing period uniforms, the event served as both a celebration of the hotel's storied past and a send-off to the Hotel Syracuse name. When its grand reopening happens later this summer, the hotel's name will officially change to the Marriott Syracuse Downtown.

Gregg Tripoli, executive director of the historical association, said the hotel is probably the most historically important building in Syracuse, and not just because of its architecture and grand ballrooms.
