Welcome to Different Colored Eyes Day!

Different Colored Eyes Day has two reasons to celebrate. First of all, it celebrates diversity of eye color. Wouldn't the world be boring, if everyone had the same color of eyes?

Secondly, it recognizes an eye condition called Heterochromia. People who have this trait, have two different colors of eyes. One eye may be brown, while the other is blue. Famous people who have Heterochromia include David Bowie, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Walken.

Your eyes are an important part of your appearance. They are also important in communications. When you look into your lover's eyes, you need to like what you see. Making "eye contact" just wouldn't be the same without different colored eye. Isn't it great that we have a variety of eye colors to set us apart from one another?

Syracuse Football Recruiting: 2017 OT Tyran Hunt High on Orange (TNIAAM; Ross)

After putting Syracuse in his top seven last Sunday, the 2017 recruit is excited to learn more about the Orange.

Despite a two-week recruiting dead period which came to a close yesterday, the Syracuse Orange have managed to keep the fresh blood coming. ILB Keirston Johnson, DB Ifeatu Melifonwu, and OLB Kadeem Trotter have all committed to Syracuse during the dead period. But the recruiting success doesn't stop with the commitments, as priority 2017 OT target Tyran Hunt recently put the Orange in his top seven.

Hunt, a 6-foot-6 275 pound tackle from Southampton HS in Virginia, holds a three-star rating from At their request, this network is being blocked from this site.. The other schools in his top seven are UNC, Wake Forest, NC State, Maryland, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

In an interview with Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com, Hunt mentioned that he pictures Syracuse as a good academic fit, as he wants to study either mass communication or criminal justice in college. Hunt also said that among the schools in his top seven, the Syracuse staff makes the most regular contact.

Recruiting: Arizona football adds speedy WR Darrian McNeal to 2017 class (tucson.com; Rosenblatt)

Well it's been over a week since Arizona football received its last verbal commitment for the 2017 recruiting class.

Time for another.

Monday, three-star wide receiver Darrian McNeal announced his commitment to the Wildcats while on a visit to Arizona's campus. He made the announcement on Twitter.

McNeal becomes the 22nd player to commit to Arizona's 2017 class. The Wildcats seem to be loading up on receiving options in this recruiting cycle, as McNeal becomes the sixth receiver or tight end to commit to Arizona for next year, counting Sabino athlete Drew Dixon.

With the promotion of Jahmile Addae from staff analyst to assistant coach — he's specifically coaching safeties — the Wildcats have made an increased effort to bring in talent from Florida, one of Addae's main regions. This is where McNeal, a 5-foot-10, 175 pound receiver, is from. He plays for Armwood HS in Seffner, Florida.

Based on his other offers, McNeal would seem to be on the higher end of the three-star spectrum — he holds offers from Louisville, Georgia Tech, Oregon State, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Rutgers, amongst others.

Syracuse Football: Zaire Franklin & Jason Emerich Will Rep Orange at ACC Football Kickoff (TNIAAM; Keeley)

Franklin returns for another media go-round while Emerich makes his first appearance.

Zaire Franklin was a surprise selection in 2015 when he was chosen to represent the Syracuse Orange at ACC Kickoff. This year, it'd be weird if he wasn't chosen. The junior linebacker and redshirt senior center Jason Emerichwill rep the Orange at the 2016 media event.

Franklin is one of only three athletes who will be on hand for the second time. Last year he became only the fourth sophomore captain in the history of the Syracuse football team. He ended up as Syracuse's leader in tackles (81) and was second on the team in tackles for loss (11.0). Zaire was also on the Spring 2015 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Emerich played in all 12 games for the Orange last year, starting in ten of them. He enters the 2016 season entrenched as the team's starting center and as one of the leaders on offense. He was also on the Spring 2015 Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and a 2015 All-ACC Academic Team selection.

Of course new head coach Dino Babers will also be on hand to meet the ACC media and drop some sound bites.

'17 SU QB Commit Tommy DeVito Shines at The Opening Finals (TNIAAM; Cassillo)

The praise train keeps chugging along for the 2017 'Cuse commit.

Syracuse Orange 2017 quarterback commit Tommy DeVito has been grabbing headlines since putting on an impressive showing at the Elite 11 recruiting event. The praise continued this weekend, as he was among the best at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore.

DeVito, from New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep, was named to the 7-on-7 all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event yesterday. While his team, Lunarbeast, lost in the tournament, it didn't derail the hype around his performance at all. As Scout points out, the honor basically makes him the second-best quarterback at the event, behind Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa.

Bleacher Report's Michael Felder also gave DeVito his "Big Time QB" Award, and seemed to scoff at the notion that there are still 600 players in the country better than the four-star quarterback (according to recruiting rankings, anyway).

Getting credit for things other than his arm, DeVito showed himself to be a fast runner too. He was the fastest QB at the event, with a 4.61-second 40 time, and had the second-fastest shuttle time at 4.06 seconds.

A couple highlights from DeVito's weekend below. You have to love the great showing from him, and the hype it could potentially generate for the Orange as the 2017 recruiting class continues to come together.

Orange Watch: Syracuse football will benefit from new AD, football coach, Carrier Dome (the juice; Bierman)

Item: Heading into his introductory press conference set for Tuesday morning (11:00 a.m. ET – online stream via cuse.com) in the football wing of Manley Field House, followed by a late afternoon tour of the Dome, new athletic director John Wildhack (’80), will likely lay out his emotions, thoughts, and vision of returning to familiar New York state roots with the keys to guiding Syracuse athletics into the growing era of Power 5 college sports providing entertainment and plenty of inventory to fill countless programming hours on a countless number of devices. On hand at Manley will be the majority of coaches and department staff, including members of the search committee, one of whom, Dino Babers, was perhaps the perfectly timed parting gift from Wildhack’s predecessor Mark Coyle in his short-lived 11 month tenure. This duo, combined with evolving and competitive top-notch facilities and a projected state-of-the-art home in the renovated Dome, make for an optimistic Orange football future.

Back in spring/summer 1998 when we were part of the founding team of executives in Seattle that launched the original recruiting website, we remember a regular discussion we had about one of the benefits of a business model that appealed to fans and graduates of a particular major college football (and to a lesser degree basketball) school.

Each May, a graduating class of any particular school would contain a percentage of diehard sports fans with varying intensity levels that would be invested followers of their alma mater for the rest of their lives – guaranteed.

It’s with that thought process that we think of Syracuse athletics to now be in the control of one of those diehard fans in Wildhack, who happened to be able from afar at his ESPN Connecticut base to practically have as close contact with what’s going on inside the football and basketball programs as anybody at Manley.

When there’s tens of millions of dollars being negotiated for conference TV rights, the exposure being the lifeblood of recruiting and the members money-making program’s subsistence, those partners writing large checks, like Wildhack’s former company, are greeted with perpetually wide open doors.
