Welcome to National Hairball Awareness Day!

National Hairball Awareness Day is observed annually on the last Friday in April. This day is listed as one of the Pet Health Awareness Events of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The formation of hairballs is a common feline condition that is brought on by self-grooming and the associated ingestion of hair.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Observe National Hairball Day by becoming educated about this condition. Visit Press Releases - Latest Hill's Pet News and Info | Hill's Pet to learn about things you can do to prevent your cat from developing hairballs. Share your love for your cat using #HairballAwarenessDay on social media.

Spring Check-In: Syracuse (andthevalleyshook.com; Gimila)

1. Syracuse was just 4-8 last year, but made some real progress under Dino Babers, especially on offense. What is the feeling on this team heading into 2017?

We lose Amba Etta-Tawo and Brisly Estime, plus a couple more linemen, so that causes some concern. However, last year's injuries mean experienced depth coming back and a team that's far more acclimated to this offense than they were a year ago. Essentially, the offense can go as far (and fast) as Eric Dungey can. If he's healthy and the line can hold up better than they did last season, you should see an even more dynamic Orange O in 2017.

2. Expectations were pretty low for this matchup in 2015. Has that changed any?
Scott Shafer's defenses were very boom-or-bust due to their disruptive style of play. We were pessimistic going in because of the offense, and ultimately, that ended up being the reason we failed in a 10-point loss.

I think we'd be a bit more optimistic if you guys hadn't gone out and hired Matt Canada, and the game wasn't in Death Valley. Death Valley speaks for itself, and Canada lit us up for 76 points at Pitt in last year's season finale.

3. Does it feel like the Orange are continuing to progress on offense through this spring?
Spread offensive coaches are very wary of giving away too much of the "secret sauce," so we haven't seen a ton of where this offense has progressed too. We'll see a little more this Saturday at the spring game, but still, it's very likely to be a trimmed-down version of what we'll witness during games in 2017.

What’s Amba Etta-Tawo’s Stock Heading Into The 2017 NFL Draft? (ithl.com; Esden Jr)

The 2017 NFL Draft is less than 12 hours away, with so much excitement building, where will Amba Etta-Tawo land? We discuss.

The Syracuse football team hasn’t seen a wide receiver drafted since 2010 (Mike Williams), could 2017 be their year? Amba Etta-Tawo has done everything he can to make himself the 15th wide receiver taken in SU history in the 2017 NFL Draft.

First lets look around the league heading into the draft tonight to see what’s his stock at:
  • Todd McShay has Amba Etta-Tawo ranked #182 in his final top 300 prospect list for the draft, via ESPN.com.
  • Mel Kiper didn’t have him included in his top-300 on ESPN.com.
  • Around the web, Amba’s draft stock is as high as third round all the way to undrafted
To the last point there’s not a lot of clarity in terms of where he could go this weekend. But head coach of the Orange, Dino Babers, sees this as a no-brainer.

Is the proof in the pudding?
“The proof is in the pudding, you’re getting someone that has a 4.4-4.3 track time, verified out of high school, a huge body for a wide receiver and a giant catch radius. He’s gone against the best competition there is in the ACC, and he’s made plays against everybody.” (Via Syracuse Orange YouTube)

ACC Has Four Selected in First Round of NFL Draft | News (theacc.com)

ACC HAS FOUR SELECTED IN FIRST ROUND OF NFL DRAFT
Trubisky, Williams, Watson Chosen Among First 12 Selections

The Atlantic Coast Conference had four players chosen in the first round of the 2017 National Football League Draft Thursday night in Philadelphia.

The four selections brings the ACC to a total of 73 first-round draftees in the last 13 years, beginning with the 2005 draft. That is the second-highest total of any conference.

North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was taken second overall by the Chicago Bears. Clemson wide receiver Mike Williams was taken seventh overall by the Los Angeles Chargers and Tigers’ quarterback Deshaun Watson was selected 12th overall by the Houston Texans. Finally, Miami tight David Njoku was tabbed 29th by the Cleveland Browns.

Trubisky becomes the fourth UNC player taken as the second overall player in the draft, joining Ken Willard (1965), Lawrence Taylor (1981) and Julius Peppers (2002).

Williams became the third Clemson wide receiver taken in the first round since 2013, joining Sammy Watkins (4th, 2014) and DeAndre Hopkins (27th, 2013). He is the fifth Clemson wide receiver drafted in that time.

Is Plan 2014 really the culprit behind Lake Ontario's high water levels? (PS; Figura)

The International Joint Commission and its Plan 2014 has been taking a late of heat lately for the extremely high water levels in Lake Ontario.

Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are running about 21 inches higher than average. Shoreline property owners, businesses along the lake and government officials are all fired up and worried about widespread flooding.

Two Upstate congressmen - Rep. John Katko, R-Camillus, and Rep. Chris Collins, R-Clarence - are calling for President Donald Trump to intervene and scrap Plan 2014, which was put in place earlier this year following 16 years of debate and $20 million dollars for research studies.

Assemblyman Will Barclay, R-Pulaski, this week also expressed his dismay for the way things are being handled and called for Gov. Andrew Cuomo to "halt Plan 2014 to halt Plan 2014 and to provide assistance to the communities facing losses as a result of rising water levels in Lake Ontario."

The commission, composed of both U.S. and Canadian officials, was created in 1909 under the Boundary Waters Treaty, was set up to prevent and resolve disputes over waters shared between the two countries and for settling other transboundary issues.

Plan 2014, which took effect Jan. 7, replaced a lake level management that had been in place on Lake Ontario since 1958.
