Syracuse Football Sitdown: 3-Star Prospect, EJ Williams, OLB/S (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

The Syracuse football team is looking to add some more talent to their defense. They can go a long way in doing that with this acquisition.

It’s been a blessing to interview so many Syracuse football players, commits, and recruits alike. To check out our archives just go to the homepage and look under our Syracuse Football tab or our All-Time List tabs for those previous interviews.

When people think of Syracuse, they think of the snow, Jim Brown, and the Carrier Dome. If you push them to think about today’s Orange team, snow and the carrier dome still makes the list. But a culture is being shifted here in Central New York.

For the majority of the 21st century, the Syracuse football team and mediocrity have gone hand-in-hand. Dino Babers it just over a year is starting to change that narrative. While the team still had a sub-par season (4-8) last year, the culture is changing.

Babers brings a high-octane offense, a no nonsense attitude, and a winning mentality to Syracuse. The only thing that’s missing is quality pieces on defense. He’s hoping to change that with the addition of EJ Williams out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Lets get to know the prospect in this one-on-one interview.

Prediction Time: Athlon says Syracuse football will go 5-7 in 2017 – Orange Fizz – Free Syracuse Recruiting News (orangefizz.net; Dickinson)

The start of Syracuse football’s 2017 season is three months away, but there is no reason for Orange fans to start getting anxious. Athlon has already told the people how SU will fare this season, so you can spend game day reading a book or learning to knit — whatever it is people who aren’t college football fans do on Saturdays in the fall.

Athlon’s ACC predictions hit the web Monday. After picking the Orange to finish last in the ACC Atlantic in 2016, the sports and lifestyle magazine gave SU a bit more credit this season. Despite having the toughest schedule in the country, Athlon predicts a 5-7 (2-6 in the ACC) finish for Syracuse and the No. 6 spot in the ACC’s Atlantic division.

The 3-1 non-conference record doesn’t need explaining. Athlon doesn’t give game-by-game predictions, but you can assume the three wins are over Central Connecticut State, Middle Tennessee, and Central Michigan while the loss goes to LSU in Baton Rouge. The speculation really begins when you look at Syracuse’s ACC schedule.

ESPN confident in future of ACC Network :: WRALSportsFan.com (wralsportsfan.com)

Even with cord cutting, revenue dips and the recent layoff of 100 ESPN employees, the ACC is confident that their 2019 linear launch will take place with ESPN.

"The layoffs from ESPN, I've been assured, have absolutely nothing to do with their view of moving forward with the ACC/ESPN Channel," ACC Commissioner John Swofford said.

"We've partnered with ESPN, which is the best address in sport and it remains to be seen what the subscription rates are and how the whole thing rolls out," UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham said.

The cable giant is not a sinking ship. Industry sources tell WRAL that ESPN's revenue last year was $12.5 billion dollars. They paid $6.7 billion in rights fees, which leaves just under $6 billion to operate. ESPN officials were at the ACC meetings earlier in May. They nor ACC officials are in a place to know exactly how profitable the new network will be.

"The ACC wisely took the approach to make the projections very conservatively and those projections are holding true at this point," Wake Forest Athletic Director Ron Wellman said.

Successful NY osprey comeback story now includes rise in 'nuisance' complaints (PS; Figura)

Once seriously threatened, ospreys are a conservation success story in Upstate New York and elsewhere with steadily growing numbers.

The large, slender, brown and white hawks with wingspans varying from 4 to almost 6 feet, are unique in their diet of only live fish and their admirable ability to dive into the water to catch them. Look for them around nearly any body of water including lakes, reservoirs, rivers, ponds and marshes.

With this bird's successful recovery, though, has come an increase in osprey 'nuisance complaints,' " according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.

Their preference for building nests on top of power and telephone poles and other man-made structures has resulted in power outages, transformer fires -- and some cases, electrocuted birds.

"Basically, in the last 5 to 10 years, we've been having increased nuisance complaints about ospreys. This year, we started maintaining a data base to get handle on it," said John Ozard, unit leader for the DEC's Avian Diversity Unit.

Last year, the DEC received 99 reported complaints, with the majority being on electrical utility and telephone poles in the St. Lawrence River and western Adirondack areas. Other complaints have come from areas such as Lake Champlain and along the Hudson River.
