Syracuse Football: 2018 ATH Hassan Hall Puts Cuse in Top 6 (itlh.com; Ross)

Syracuse may be closing in on another recruit for the 2018 class, as Georgia athlete Hassan Hall put the Orange in his top six last night.

The Syracuse football coaching staff work around the clock on recruiting, and soon the may reap more fruit from their labor. On Wednesday night, 2018 Georgia ATH Hassan Hall released his top six on Twitter, which included the Orange along with Georgia Tech, Appalachian State, Western Kentucky, Louisville, and Arkansas State.

My recruitment is still OPEN but as of now these are my TOP 6 school's pic.twitter.com/rESaHBgTbt

— Hassan Hall (@_sayblackboy) June 28, 2017

The 5-foot-11, 190 pound Hall, who attends Maynard H. Jackson High School, holds a three-star rating from 247Sports. Though recruited as an athlete, it is widely believed that Hall will end up a running back or slot receiver. As a running back, 247Sports ranks him as the country’s 124th best at the position.

After camping at Syracuse and visiting the campus last week, Hall told Stephen Bailey of syracuse.com that he was ‘leaning’ towards the Orange, raving about the staff and his experience.

“They do a good job at recruiting,” Hall said. “They made me feel like I was at home, man. All the coaches keep it 100 with you, they’re going to shoot straight.

As it stands, there are eleven recruits who have committed to Syracuse in the 2018 class. Of those eleven, two of them, three-star Akeem Dixon and three-star Jawhar Jordan, are running backs. Should the Orange land Hall, the staff would likely end their backfield recruiting efforts with three talented runners locked in.

Undefeated and Unforgotten (cuse.com)

Thirty years ago the Syracuse University football team made history finishing the regular season with an 11-0 record and earned an invitation to the Sugar Bowl. The '87 Orange became the second 'Cuse gridiron squad to go undefeated, joining the 1959 national champions in that elite club. This fall, Syracuse University will celebrate the 30th anniversary of that historic team on Sept. 9 when the Orange host Middle Tennessee.

The '87 team finished fourth in both the Associated Press and UPI Coaches Poll and head coach Dick MacPherson was honored as the national coach of the year by multiple organizations. The Orange rolled through the competition, beating the likes of Penn State, Missouri, Navy, Virginia Tech, Boston College and West Virginia en route to an 11-0 regular-season mark. The Orange tied Auburn in the 1988 Sugar Bowl when Tigers coach Pat Dye elected to kick a 30-yard field goal in the final seconds instead of going for the end zone.

A 1987 unanimous All-American, quarterback Don McPherson was one of six 1988 Syracuse NFL Draft selections and served as a team captain. All-America defensive tackle Ted Gregory and defensive end Paul Frase were also co-captains.

How the ACC is Making a Serious Play for College Football Conference Supremacy (athlonsports.com)

A funny thing happened in college football last season: The ACC was the best conference. No, seriously.

We’re only a couple years removed from a time when the ACC regularly challenged the old Big East for the label of worst major football conference. From 1998 through 2011, the ACC had a 2–13 record in BCS bowls and was a laughingstock.

But the narrative turned dramatically in 2016. It wasn’t just that Clemson topped Alabama for the national title, although that certainly helped. But Clemson also routed Ohio State in the semifinals, Florida State edged Michigan at the Orange Bowl and the ACC had a combined 16–6 record vs. the SEC and Big Ten.

From 2004-13, the ACC was 30–54 vs. the SEC, which used to lord over the sport. Since 2014, the ACC is 19–13 vs. the SEC.

“I think all you media folks need to change your stories,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says. “It sounds good. I’ve been in this league a long time, and this league has never gotten the respect that it deserves. But I said about five years ago or something, just keep your mouth shut and go play. If we want to change the story, then we’ve got to change it from the inside out.”

The ACC did. Now, can a basketball-centric conference sustain football success?

Uber says its first ride in Syracuse was to a bar (PS; Lohmann)

An Uber passenger took a one-mile trip from his or her home to a Tipp Hill bar, marking what Uber is designating its first-ever Syracuse ride.

The ride departed at 12:07 a.m., six minutes after the apps launched here and the rest of Upstate New York.

The passenger went to Blarney Stone, the Tipp Hill late-night staple, according to Uber. More details about the passenger or the purpose of the trip were not released.

The app also released the longest Uber drive that happened in the hours since its launch.

The eight-minute, 2.6-mile trip with Uber cost $7, which is $2.37 less than the trip for Lyft.

It began at 6:51 a.m. and went 17 miles from Syracuse to the Anheuser Busch Budweiser Plant in Baldwinsville.

Both Uber and Lyft launched early Thurday morning in Upstate New York and Long Island after they were legalized in the state budget passed in April.
