Welcome to Susan B Anthony Day!

Susan B. Anthony is known for her leadership in the long campaign for women's right to vote in the United States and also abroad. She indicated her interest as early as 1852, when she attended the National Women’s Rights Convention in Syracuse, New York. She was also a vigorous opponent of slavery.

In 1863, during the American Civil War, she and Elizabeth Cady Stanton organized the Women's Loyal National League, the first national women's political organization in the U.S.[19] It collected nearly 400,000 signatures on petitions to abolish slavery in the largest petition drive in the nation's history up to that time.[20]

Faircloth and Tanski Round Out Football Staff - Robert Morris University
(rmucolonials.com)

Robert Morris University head football coach Bernard Clark finished off his staff with the hiring of defensive backs coaches John Faircloth and Bart Tanski. Faircloth will be in charge of the safeties while Tanski will mentor the cornerbacks.

Faircloth comes to Moon Township after spending the previous two seasons as a defensive graduate assistant as Colorado State University. With the Rams, Faircloth helped coach the defensive line and held recruiting territories through the Midwest in addition to Virginia and Washington, D.C. He was also responsible for opponent scouts and ran the scout team.

Tanski spent three seasons on the staff of the Syracuse Orange. He served as a defensive graduate assistant in 2015-16 before taking on the position of defensive quality control coach in 2017. He worked with both the linebackers and the defensive backs during his time there in addition to lending his expertise to the special teams.

"Coach Tanski, again, came with a strong recommendation from the defensive coordinator at Syracuse University," said Clark. "When he came on his interview, he was extremely technical and very sound in his fundamentals and I thought he would be a great addition."

Where do Gamecocks rank among all 130 FBS college football programs? (charlotteobserver.com; Millians)

In a ranking of all 130 FBS college football programs, South Carolina comes in at No. 29, according to Athlon Sports.

The SEC, which placed two teams in the National Championship Game in 2017 with Alabama beating Georgia, has five teams in the Top 25 and a total of eight in the Top 50.

About the 2018 Gamecocks, Athlon says:

“Reason for Optimism: Quarterback Jake Bentley seems poised to take a big step forward in his junior year, and the supporting cast on the outside is strong with the return of Deebo Samuel and Bryan Edwards.

60. Syracuse

Reason for Optimism: Despite losing receivers Steve Ishmael and Ervin Phillips, Syracuse’s offense should be a strength in 2018. Quarterback Eric Dungey can push for All-ACC honors, and the line has a chance to show marked improvement with most of the two-deep returning. Most of the personnel losses on defense are at linebacker, with the line and secondary almost intact.

Reason for Concern: Who steps up to replace Ishmael and Phillips? Also, how much can Syracuse’s defense improve after giving up 6.4 yards a play last year? The offense also needs more help from its ground game and offensive line.

Syracuse University freshman campaigns to bring XFL football to Carrier Dome (PS; Jenson)

A Syracuse University freshman has started a campaign to bring the XFL, a professional football league, to Syracuse.

Will Scott, 19, said he was inspired to bring an XFL team to the area after Vince McMahon, the chairman and chief executive of World Wresting Entertainment, announced last month that he would be bringing back the XFL, the league he originally started with the WWE (then the World Wrestling Federation) and NBC in 2001.

The league only lasted for one season and cost both the WWF and NBC millions of dollars, but McMahon told the New York Times last month that the new XFL will be a very different iteration of the first.

McMahon has not announced the cities that will participate in the new XFL, which will begin its games in 2020.

Scott, a native of Houston, Texas, has been a sports fan all of us life. For him, bringing the XFL to Syracuse is a no-brainer.

Happy Valentine's Day? Syracuse named the worst city in America for dating (PS; Herbert)

If you're not having a happy Valentine's Day, you might live in Syracuse.

A new report released Wednesday by ApartmentList.com ranked the heart of Central New York as the most heartbroken city in America. Less than 15 percent of single people are satisfied with the dating scene in the Salt City, according to a survey of 11,000 singles in 70 U.S. cities.

"This is the city where love goes to die," the New York Post wrote. Ouch.

According to the Post, Syracuse is the worst city for finding love -- in terms of "dating satisfaction" -- by a huge margin. The second and third worst cities are Bridgeport, Connecticut, and New Haven, Conn., with 21 percent and 25 percent satisfaction, respectively.

The average city sees 42 percent of singles satisfied with their dating scene. That's almost three times better than Syracuse.

I hate these incorrect mathmatical statements.

Let’s see, 15% and 42%...
That would be “Almost three times as good as...” or “Almost two times better than...”
The article’s statement would be true for 15% vs. 60%.

Huh? I admit math is not my strength, but to simplify, I assume 100 people. 15 = 15%. 3x15=45. 45 people = 45% It May be off topic, but I genuinely want to understand why that might be wrong.
