Welcome to Do the Grouch a Favor Day!

Celebrate the day by doing a favor for a grouchy friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or even a stranger. Buy a friend lunch; take a family member to one of their favorite places; offer to stay late to help a coworker with a project; shovel your neighbor's driveway; put a cart away for a stranger at the grocery store. There are many ways you can celebrate the day. Every favor starts with a good intention and a smile, and hopefully ends with brightening the day of a grouch.

Syracuse football recruiting: New Jersey LB/S AJ Calabro commits as preferred walk-on (PS; Bailey)

Class of 2018 outside linebacker/safety AJ Calabro has committed to Syracuse football as a preferred walk-on.

A senior at Saint John Vianney High School in Holmdel, N.J., Calabro announced his decision on Saturday. SJV athletic director Rich Lamberson confirmed his scholarship status during a phone interview Thursday morning.

Proud to announce I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Syracuse University! Thanks to everyone who has stayed by my side and helped me accomplish this goal! pic.twitter.com/f8q5pZp83A

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Calabro is unrated by the major recruiting services. He was also considering scholarship offers including Wagner (Football Championship Subdivision) and Pace (Division II), as well as other preferred walk-on opportunities, Lamberson said.

Syracuse Football: Sean Lewis is the youngest head coach in the country (itlh.com; Esden Jr)

The Syracuse football team lost a key member of the coaching staff when Sean Lewis left for Kent State. ITLH breaks it all down.

A couple months back the Syracuse football team lost a key portion of their coaching staff when Sean Lewis took a new opportunity with Kent State.

He was an offensive whisperer of sorts participating as a co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach under Dino Babers.

Speaking of Babers, Lewis was given his first shot by Babers back at Eastern Illinois in 2012. Babers reminsced calling it initally one of the worst interviews in history (jokingly) and told Lewis to stop get out and regroup and come back in. Ever since Lewis has been by Babers side from Eastern Illinois (2012-13), Bowling Green (2014-15), and then obviously most recently under Babers at Syracuse.

The Orange are going to miss his offensive prowess, but I think more importantly as a young guy (31) his recruiting. By the way speaking of his age, Lewis is the youngest head coach in the country. Fun fact, he’s the same age as the youngest head coach in the NFL, Sean McVay who ironically has also taken over the league with his innovative offensive skills.

Miami backup QB now granted permission to transfer to these three ACC schools (diehards.com; Rosa)

Miami quarterback Evan Shirreffs received some encouraging news as he moves on from the program.

The junior quarterback will be permitted to transfer to three ACC schools (Duke, North Carolina and Virginia) where he previously wasn’t going to be allowed to play immediately, his father told CBS Sports.

After Shirreffs appealed as a graduate transfer, a Miami appeals committee said he could transfer to those three schools within the conference. The decision was finalized Monday after the family sought clarification from a Friday decision.

Miami had previously blocked the backup quarterback from playing immediately at all ACC schools and nonconference opponents in 2018 and 2019.

Shirreffs announced on Jan. 15 his decision to transfer from Miami.

Report: Woman kicked off plane to Syracuse suspended from NY state job (PS; Herbert)

A new report says the woman kicked off a plane to Syracuse last week has been identified as a New York state government employee.

Marissa Rundell, a 19-year-old mom from Rochester, shared video of an incident last week, showing an angry passenger "screaming" at staff on a Delta Air Lines flight from New York's JFK Airport to Syracuse's Hancock Airport. The passenger was complaining about being seated near Rundell's 8-month-old son.

Spectrum News reports the passenger has been identified as Susan Peirez, program director for the NY State Council on the Arts.

"I work for the governor," she can be heard saying at the beginning of the video, referring to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

"You may not have a job tomorrow," Peirez told a flight attendant before being removed from the plane on Feb. 6.

An employee for the council said Peirez has been suspended for her behavior.
