Welcome to National Baked Scallops Day!

Scallops have been enjoyed by people in seaside communities since the beginning of time. It should not come as a surprise that the culinary world would want to give them their own day to shine! There are so many ways that this little creature can be served. They are a common addition to seafood soups, stews, and chowders. One can commonly find them baked or fried on restaurant menus ready to be enjoyed.

For those who are not used to cooking seafood, the idea of trying to make one of these dishes at home can be overwhelming. Like many things in the world of cooking, the truth is much different. Scallops are quick and easy to cook and therefore are a great place to start. Making friends with your fishmonger is essential so that you know that the scallops you buy as are fresh as possible. Many supermarkets have seafood departments and are a great resource.

This one is for you, LilJoe!

Why 4-star DB Jacolby Spells included Syracuse in his Top 5 (247sports.com; $; Bailey)

One of Syracuse football's top defensive targets in the Class of 2022, Jacolby Spells, released his Top 5 on Thursday afternoon. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound junior at American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla., included the Orange in his group. He's also considering West Virginia, Indiana, Miami and Georgia.

Spells, who is rated four stars and the No. 20 athlete in his cycle by the 247Sports Composite, spoke with SyracuseOn247 before his announcement. He outlined why he's considering the Orange, his relationship with SU safeties/nickelbacks coach Nick Monroe and what's next in his recruitment.

2021 Early Heisman Favorites (RX; HM)

2021 Early Heisman Favorites

From Athlon Sports' "Heisman Watch: Early Look at Top Heisman Trophy Candidates for 2021", here are the ACC contenders (and the favorite)...

Top 10 Heisman Trophy Contenders for 2021

6. D'Eriq King, QB, Miami
Speaking of torn ACLs, King suffered the unfortunate injury against Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl just days after he announced he planned to return to the Hurricanes for his extra season of eligibility. King has a difficult recovery period ahead of him but is expected to be healthy enough to return to the field for Miami's season opener against Alabama. After that game with the defending national champions, the Hurricanes should be one of the top challengers to Clemson in the ACC. King threw for 2,686 yards and 23 touchdowns in his first season at Miami and added 538 yards and four scores on the ground.
4. Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina
The fact that Howell is so far up on this list even though his top four weapons from this season have moved on speaks volumes about his talent and his potential leading the Tar Heels' offense. Wide receivers Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome as well as running backs Javonte Williams and Michael Carter, who combined for 4,189 yards from scrimmage and 48 total touchdowns this past season, are all off to the NFL, yet Howell is still expected to put up gaudy numbers. As a sophomore, Howell finished fourth nationally with 3,586 passing yards, which also is the most among players returning in 2021. He threw 30 touchdown passes with seven interceptions, completing 68.1 percent of his attempts while averaging 10.3 yards per pass. He also ran for 146 yards and five touchdowns.
2. D.J. Uiagalelei, QB, Clemson
We caught an early glimpse of the Clemson offense with Uiagalelei behind center when Trevor Lawrence was sidelined by COVID-19 for regular-season games against Boston College and Notre Dame. Uiagalelei showed the athleticism and natural ability that made him a highly sought-after 5-star recruit, putting up 781 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions along with a pair of rushing scores in his two starts as a true freshman. He won't have Travis Etienne in the backfield or Amari Rodgers or Cornell Powell at receiver, but the hopeful return of Justyn Ross could provide him with a big-play weapon as Uiagalelei looks to do his part to keep the Tigers atop not just the ACC, but also among the ranks of legitimate national title contenders.
So, who's the favorite?
1. Spencer Rattler, QB, Oklahoma
Well, at least half of the top 6 are ACC, so maybe one of them will have a great season...

Syracuse, other Upstate NY cities smash high-temperature records (PS; $; Coin)

Update: Syracuse’s high temperature today was 73 degrees, at 2:41 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Today is officially the warmest March 11 in Syracuse in at least 119 years.

The high temperature so far this afternoon at Hancock International Airport is 72. That beats the previous record of 67, set in 1977. Records began in 1902.

Other Upstate New York cities are beating records today, or getting very close. Watertown’s high of 65 beat the record of 61, and Elmira’s 71 today nudged over the record of 70. Rochester has tied its record of 70.

Under mostly cloudy skies, Binghamton is lagging today, hitting a high of 62. That’s 7 degrees shy of the record.

The day isn’t over yet, and areas that get enough breaks in the clouds could still add a couple of degrees.

Our taste of spring fades soon. Friday begins the walk back, with highs in the 50s. Saturday through Tuesday will be more typical mid-March days, with highs in the upper 30s and lows in the 20s. Another bout of warmer weather looks to move in starting Wednesday, when highs will creep into the 40s.
