Welcome to Abilities Day!
First celebrated in 1999, Abilities Day honors and celebrates people with disabilities and their caregivers. Disabilities can be invisible or visible, can be minimal or severe, and can affect people at any age or place in life. Caregivers labor hard to ensure that those with severe disabilities are comfortable and are able to live to their fullest. Many centers for independent living and hospitals have celebrated Abilities Day, and it has been marked by disability rights organizations such as ADAPT, AAPD, and NDP. Those taking part in the day show their solidarity by wearing white ribbons, or by placing them on Christmas trees and wreaths. The day was created by Paul Benjamin-Dielman Cannaday, an advocate for people with disabilities and the editor and owner of Disability Grapevine.

Syracuse football has landed a commitment from New Mexico State running back Juwaun Price. The rising fourth-year sophomore announced his decision on Tuesday, one week after SU assistant Mike Lynch extended the scholarship offer.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Price served as the Aggies lead back this fall, taking 135 carries for 691 yards and 10 touchdowns as a third-year redshirt freshman. He saved his best performance for last, logging 156 yards and four scores in the team's season finale versus UMass.
Price added 26 receptions for 181 yards and contributed as a kick returner, bringing recording 20 attempts for 398 yards with a long of 58. He entered the transfer portal after it was announced that Doug Martin would not be retained as NMSU's head coach following a 2-10 campaign.
A Peoria, Ariz., native, Price also announced an offer from UMass as part of his transfer process.
Price didn't play in 2020 as the program saw its season canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. He appeared in four games as a true freshman in 2019, going through his first collegiate season alongside now Orange safety Jason Simmons Jr., who transferred from New Mexico State last cycle.
As a Class of 2019 prospect out of Peoria High School, Price also received offers from Idaho, Northern Arizona and Western New Mexico. He totaled 3,156 rushing yards and 58 total touchdowns over two seasons, cracking the century mark 10 times as a senior. Price racked up 1,900 all-purpose yards that fall to go along with 33 total touchdowns, including three punt return scores and one kickoff return touchdown.

There may be a pause in basketball and no bowl game for football, but there’s plenty of news from the recruiting world as he head into the holiday week.
Syracuse picked up a commitment from New Mexico State transfer Juwaun Price, he announced on Tuesday. Price, a running back, has three years of eligibility remaining, and will add badly needed depth after Cooper Lutz entered the transfer portal and Abdul Adams exhausted his eligibility. With the Aggies, he rushed for 692 yards and 10 touchdowns. He will likely be the primary backup to Sean Tucker.
Another transfer the Orange is pursuing is Lafayette tight end Steven Stilianos. He tweeted over the weekend that he received an offer from Syracuse, and still has two years of eligibility remaining. Stilianos is a two-time First Team All Patriot League selection and also has an offer from Rutgers. According to Sports Illustrated’s Mike McAllister, he plans on taking an official visit to Syracuse in January.
Syracuse added another player in the 2022 cycle over the weekend, this time from long snapper Ethan Stangle, he announced via Twitter. The Maryland product joined SU as a preferred walk-on, and is the 43rd rated long snapper in his class and a 4 1/2 star prospect according to Kohl’s Professional Camps. “Thank you to Coach Ligasheksy and the rest of the staff for this tremendous opportunity,” he wrote.
The Orange also continues to recruit in the 2022 class ahead of the February signing period. Skyridge (UT) offensive lineman Tapuvae Amaama has only taken two official visits in his recruitment so far: Syracuse and Virginia. Initially, Amaama announced he would be announcing his commitment on Jan. 22 at the Polynesian Bowl, but later retracted it. He is rated three stars by 247 Sports.
Over on the hardwood, Syracuse extended offers to a pair of 2024 prospects in the past week. On Sunday, Syracuse offered West (Md.) Nottingham and PSA Cardinals’ big man Yves Missi, according to Pro Insight’s Andrew Slater. The Cameroon native already holds offers from St. John’s, UCLA and DePaul.

The Orange will look to improve upon a disappointing 2021 campaign in which they finished with three consecutive losses to end with an underwhelming 5-7 record. But to be fair, they faced stiff competition down the stretch and had the unenviable task of lining up against three ranked opponents in Wake Forest, NC State, and Pittsburgh (all were losses).
But that is in the rearview mirror, so let’s look ahead to what’s in store for the Orange in 2022. Will it be more of the same or does the coaching staff have the recruits to make next season and beyond more competitive? Let’s take a look at what is in the pipeline and the offseason rumors that are flying.
The first order of business was the signing of Florida high school linebacker, Mekhi Mason, who is a three-star recruit from Monsignor Pace High School. Mason spurned Indiana and Georgia Tech for the opportunity to join the Orange.
Dom Foster played quarterback and wide receiver before being discovered at a camp this summer and Syracuse believes the Warren G. Harding High School standout will be well suited to play cornerback. Foster has already made the transition and should be an interesting project this season.
Woodhaven High School will see one of their own step up to the next level and play for Syracuse as Cornell Perry will be roaming the defensive backfield at some point, hopefully, sooner than later.
In addition, the Orange also signed Florida defensive lineman, Belizaire Bassette, a 270-pound prospect out of American Heritage High School while inking another three-star prospect and secondary cover man, Quan Peterson of South Pointe High School in South Carolina.

Syracuse Football: New Orange offensive coaches must be empowered (itlh; Abramo)
Imagine this scenario – Syracuse football enters the 2022 season with a new offensive coordinator, a new QB coach, a QB who can effectively throw the ball downfield, and a couple of new receiving threats who are happily pulled off the portal because they want to be a part of what this new offense can be.
Imagine adding all of that to an offense already featuring a Heisman Trophy contender.
Exciting isn’t it? What’s more exciting? This scenario is absolutely possible, and in fact, we may be already halfway there if the rumored additions of potential Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae and QB coach Jason Beck come to fruition.
These two coaches, who held the same roles with the University of Virginia this past season, helped to lead a dynamic and high-powered offense that was exciting to watch and delivered results. The Cavaliers led the ACC in yards-per-game (515.8) and passing yards-per-game (392.2), while finishing 4th in the conference in points-per-game (34.6).
Needless to say, Virginia vastly outperformed Syracuse in each of these categories.

GREENSBORO, NC & ROSEMONT, IL & SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, and Pac-12 Conference today announced the completion of an initial series of student-athlete focused Alliance initiatives, which took place over the past several weeks and include efforts in the areas of civic engagement; student-athlete leadership and welfare; sustainability; social justice; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and mental health.
The Alliance hosted a student-athlete leadership webinar that served as the first official touchpoint and collaboration for student-athletes throughout the Alliance. The webinar began with the three Alliance commissioners discussing the vision and mission of the Alliance and the importance of having student-athlete input and leadership across all areas of collegiate athletics. Following the discussion with the commissioners, the group welcomed guest speaker, Nneka Ogwumike – former Stanford Women’s Basketball player and current LA Sparks player/WNBPA President. One of the major topics Ogwumike spoke to the group about was the power and weight of advocacy. The webinar concluded with student-athletes leading breakout discussions about topics and initiatives that are meaningful to them.

Divisions don't work well for ACC football. I know. I've tried virtually every possible combination of 2 divisions, and all of them leave out some very important rivalry, or they're grossly imbalanced, or some other problem - but none of them are perfect. That said, what the ACC gives us now is far, far from the best they can do. If we're going to be stuck with divisions for awhile, let's at least make the best of it!For starters, Louisville is in the wrong division from a rivalry point of view. The Cardinals need to be playing Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Miami - but they play none of those teams. Here's the current alignment:

Why is a Solvay furniture store called 'China Towne?' The answer is beneath your feet (photos) (PS; $; Haas)
Most recently, I visited 2320 Milton Ave. – home to that one big store in Solvay: China Towne. It’s one of Central New York’s most well known furniture depots. But why is a shop that sells mattresses and dining room sets called “China Towne?”
The name is a tribute to the original use of the sprawling brick building: An Iroquois China factory that manufactured dishware and employed hundreds of people.
Today, Iroquois China is long defunct. But the basement of its former facility in Solvay remains filled with thousands of pieces of original china, like a mausoleum with relics preserved over the years by the Yennock family, owners of China Towne.
According to the research of Thomas Hunter, the Iroquois China company was founded in 1905 by two local businessmen – J. Brewster Gere of Syracuse and Lamont Stilwell of Solvay. The pair purchased the property on Milton Avenue and hired six carpenters to install workbenches, machinery, and kilns.
By 1906, the company was up and running - selling a variety of china pieces for hotels, restaurants, railroads, and other commercial uses.
Soon enough, the company moved into every day tableware and advertised its ability to withstand the newly invented dishwasher. During both World Wars, the company pivoted to created tableware pieces for the armed forces.
