Hot, spicy, plain, sticky, or sweet, it seems Americans never have enough chicken wings to eat. In fact, they eat about 30 billion of them per year. Wings come in numerous flavors, such as lemon pepper, pepper parmesan, barbecue, honey mustard, sweet and sour, and garlic. They are often dipped in blue cheese, ranch dressing, or plum sauce, and are served with celery sticks and carrot sticks.
The most famous are Buffalo wings, which were invented in Buffalo, New York. Fittingly, National Chicken Wing Day was proclaimed by Buffalo Mayor Stan Makowski in 1977. Buffalo wings are deep-fried without any breading, and then coated or dipped in a vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce and melted butter. They are usually served with blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing, and with carrot sticks and celery sticks.

Top 25 College Football Offensive Tackles (thegamehaus.com; DiTulio)
The college football season is approaching. There is always debate over ranking the best players in the sport. Here are the top 25 college football offensive tackles heading into the 2022 season.
Note: While projection of what a player can be is taken into account, most rankings are from what has been seen on the field so far. These are not NFL Draft rankings, but rather focus on the best players in college football.

25. Silas Dzansi, Virginia Tech HokiesDzansi has played multiple positions along the offensive line during his Virginia Tech career. In 2021, most of his starts came at tackle and he is projected to play left tackle for the Hokies in 2021. He’ll be tasked with protecting the backside of new quarterback Grant Wells, who transferred in from Marshall.
24. Wyatt Milum, West Virginia Mountaineers
Milum was just a freshman in 2021, but he impressed enough to make Freshman All-American teams. He started at right tackle and will be tasked with protecting JT Daniels in 2022, as the Mountaineers try to go bowling again.
23. Javon Foster, Missouri Tigers
Missouri has a good right tackle in Foster, who specifically has shown proficiency in run blocking. Although he is a solid player, Missouri is not projected to make a bowl game, so he may not get as much recognition throughout the season.
22. Jaelyn Duncan, Maryland Terrapins
A two-time Big Ten Honorable Mention, Duncan is an experienced left tackle for Maryland. The Terrapins have plenty of talent on offense and Duncan can help the skill position players put points on the scoreboard.
21. Matthew Bergeron, Syracuse Orange
For the Orange, Begeron has started in three straight seasons. After being an Honorable Mention All-ACC last season, he will now hope for more as he clears holes for star running back Sean Tucker.

20. Blake Fisher, Notre Dame Fighting IrishFisher was a highly-touted recruit who was able to start two games for Notre Dame in 2021. He played well in the Fiesta Bowl for a freshman and big things are expected from him in his career.

Syracuse RB Sean Tucker voted to preseason All-ACC team, receives 11 votes as POTY (247sports.com; Bailey)
Syracuse football running back Sean Tucker was voted to the preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference team this week as one of the most respected players in the league by media. The junior All-American received 125 nods from the 164 individuals who filled out ballots, third behind only North Carolina wide receiver Josh Downs (128) and Clemson offensive tackle Jordan McFadden (127).
Tucker, SU's only inclusion on the one-team listing, also picked up 11 votes for ACC Preseason Player of the Year. That honor went to North Carolina State quarterback Devin Leary, whose 40 votes edged out Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman (30) and Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke (21).
An Owings Mills, Md., native, Tucker finished fourth nationally last year in regular-season rushing yards with 1,496 -- a production level that eclipsed Joe Morris' single-season mark at SU in the team's 11th game of the season. He broke another program record with seven straight 100-yard outings. He also recorded 12 rushing touchdowns to go along with 20 receptions, 255 receiving yards and another two scores through the air.
After the season, Tucker picked up All-American honors including a first-team selection from the Football Writers Association of America.
Earlier this summer, Tucker claimed a spot on four preseason All-American teams: Sporting News, Walter Camp Foundation, Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. He has also been named to preseason watch lists for the Doak Walker and Maxwell awards, both of which he was a semifinalist for in 2021.

The Orange are a distant 7th in the Atlantic Division and one of only three schools that didn’t receive a 1st-place vote along with Louisville and Georgia Tech. Clemson and Miami are the media’s choice to win their respective divisions but we all know that the media never knows what’s going on.
We also got the release of the pre-season All-ACC teams and Sean Tucker is Syracuse’s only selection. Tucker ended up with the third most votes for All-ACC behind North Carolina wide receiver Josh Downs and Clemson offensive lineman Jordan McFadden. NC State quarterback Devin Leary was the pick for Preseason Player of the Year while Tucker finished in 8th in that voting.

Three more Syracuse football players have been included on watch lists for annual awards as the preseason hype train continues to build steam. Fourth-year junior linebacker Mikel Jones is up for the Butkus Award, given to the nation's top 'backer, and the Nagurski Trophy, issued to the country's most outstanding defensive player.
Sixth-year senior specialist Andre Szmyt has a chance to chase his second Lou Groza Award (top placekicker) while fifth-year senior long snapper Aaron Bolinsky is a candidate for the Wuerffel Trophy, presented to the player who best serves others in society.
Jones, who nearly left for the NFL last offseason, is a returning first-team All-ACC performer who previously received preseason All-American honors from Athlon and Phil Steele. SU's defensive captain, he racked up 110 tackles last fall -- good for second in the ACC -- including a team-high 13 for loss.

Syracuse Football: National pre-season accolades piling up for stand-outs (itlh; Adler)
It remains to be seen what Syracuse football will look like on the field in 2022, as the Orange attempts to navigate a potentially brutal schedule and land in a post-season bowl game in a few months’ time.
But on paper anyway, this 2022 roster for the ‘Cuse boasts a ton of star power, illustrated by all of the national pre-season honors that various Syracuse football players have received in recent days and in recent weeks.
Of course, all of these pre-season awards don’t mean squat if the Orange has another sub-par stanza in 2022. But still, I find these honors encouraging, coupled with the recent sprinkles of optimism that have gone in the team’s direction lately from some national pundits.
SU Athletics has put out a handful of press releases that highlight these national pre-season accolades given to Syracuse football players ahead of the 2022 term. Let’s review them.
A Syracuse football placekicker is looking to regain his magic from 2018.
Per cuse.com, Orange placekicker Andre Szmyt is on the 2022 pre-season watch list for the Lou Groza Award, which every year honors the best placekicker across the country.
Szmyt, the most accurate placekicker in Syracuse football history, won this award back in 2018. He didn’t have a great 2021 campaign, and it’s imperative that he along with the rest of the ‘Cuse special teams’ unit are excellent in 2022, if the Orange wants to realistically capture at least six triumphs this coming season and qualify for a bowl game.
Earlier this week, Syracuse football star linebacker and 2022 All-American candidate Mikel Jones found his name on two national pre-season watch lists.
Jones, who was on the All-ACC first team last year, is on the pre-season watch lists for the 2022 Bronco Nagurski Trophy and the 2022 Butkus Award.

SU football’s Aaron Bolinsky named to watch list for community service award (PS; Leiker)
Syracuse football long snapper Aaron Bolinsky was named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list Thursday.
Bolinsky is one of 114 players to be named to the list. The trophy is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, who played at the University of Florida, and is presented annually to the player who “best combines exemplary community service with leadership achievement on and off the field,” according to the trophy’s website.
Last season, Bolinsky was honored as one of the ACC’s Top Six for Service Award. He is currently president of Syracuse’s chapter of Uplifting Athletes, a nonprofit aimed at inspiring the rare disease community through sports.
He organized the 2022 “Lift for Life” fundraiser, a 225-pound benchpress competition between the Orange’s offense and defense.
Bolinsky is also an active member and previous vice president of Syracuse’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, specifically partaking in the group’s numerous outreach events. Additionally, he volunteers back home in Pennsylvania at his local fire station.

LOS ANGELES – Celebrated play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti joins FOX Sports in 2022, contributing to the network’s live sports slate beginning with college football this fall. Today’s announcement was made by Brad Zager, President of Production/Operations and Executive Producer, FOX Sports.
“Jason is a top-tier broadcaster that elevates every production he joins,” said Zager. “His reputation precedes him, and we are excited to add his passion for sports and broadcasting to our lineup starting this fall.”
Benetti has served as a play-by-play announcer for some of the industry’s biggest events, spanning multiple sports from college football and basketball to Major League Baseball and Olympic baseball contests.
“I am simply ecstatic to join FOX Sports,” said Benetti. “The company has a reputation for first-class live sports coverage and first-class people behind that coverage. I’m honored to be a part of that team.”
Since 2016, Benetti has served as the voice of the Chicago White Sox, and this season he was named the voice of NBC Sports’ MLB Sunday afternoon package. He also provided play-by-play for the network’s Olympic baseball coverage during the 2020 Summer Games.
He spent the past eleven years calling events for ESPN’s family of networks, including college football, MLB, college basketball, NFL and NBA games. He has also broadcast select television games for the Chicago Bulls, as well as the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on Westwood One Radio.
Benetti began honing his broadcasting chops early on, calling football games for his high school radio station. He continued with play-by-play duties throughout his time in college and law school, ultimately holding roles with several regional broadcast networks, including Westwood One, Time Warner Cable Sports, the BIG EAST Conference and the Syracuse Chiefs.

College football recruiting: Where ACC classes rank for 2023 (247sports.com; Linton)
Summer is winding down, but the 2023 recruiting cycle is still heating up. With that in mind, we have decided to check in on the Atlantic Coast Conference recruiting classes and how they stack up heading into August.
According to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Team Rankings, the ACC currently boasts 11 of the top-50 recruiting classes in the country. That includes four teams ranked among the top 25 nationally, headlined by the nation’s No. 7 class.
It should be noted that verbal commitments are non-binding and prospects in the 2023 class will not be able to make it official until the Division I Early Signing Period in December. Those who elect not to sign during the early period will be able to do so on National Signing Day on Feb. 1, 2023.

The 2022 Subway Atlantic Coast Conference Football Championship Game will kick off at 8 p.m. on ABC on Saturday, Dec. 3, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game will feature the winner of the Atlantic Division vs. the winner of the Coastal Division.
This is the 13th time in the last 14 years that the game has been held in primetime, and 12 different teams have competed in the game since it began in 2005. Last season, No. 15 Pitt, behind the play of ACC Player of the Year Kenny Pickett, captured its first ACC football title with a 46-21 victory over No. 16 Wake Forest.
Bank of America Stadium, home of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, has been the site of 11 of the last 12 ACC Football Championship Games. In 2018, the ACC and the Charlotte Sports Foundation reached an agreement to keep the game in Charlotte through 2030. Not including the 2020 game, which had limited attendance due to the pandemic, ACC Football Championship Games played at Bank of America Stadium have had an average attendance of nearly 70,000 fans. The ACC has the second-highest average attendance of any Power 5 conference championship game since 2010.
The winner of the conference championship game has gone on to play in the National Championship Game or compete in the College Football Playoff in eight of the last nine seasons, including two teams in 2020. The ACC has the second most CFP appearances of any conference.
Earlier this week, Clemson was voted the preseason favorite to win the ACC title by a poll of 164 media voters, while Miami was picked to finish atop the Coastal Division. NC State’s Devin Leary was voted the ACC Preseason Player of the Year. Leary leads a contingent of returning ACC quarterbacks who are among the best in the country. The ACC continues to establish itself as the Conference of Quarterbacks with 10 returning QBs with at least nine career starts, including Wake Forest’s Sam Hartman (46), Louisville’s Malik Cunningham (38), Virginia’s Brennan Armstrong (20) and Leary (20).

Newly hired quarterbacks coach spoke with the media today after Florida State Seminoles football wrapped up its second practice of the spring.
He spoke mostly about starting quarterback Jordan Travis and touched on newcomer AJ Duffy’s development and how having a full spring did wonders for the true freshman.
On how Travis has performed so far in fall camp:
“Jordan’s been, I mean the growth, he’s already shown int two practices, it’s been encouraging this past offseason, just the steps that he’s taken with his mind, his body, as a leader, taking ownership of what we’re doing on, not just only on offense, but, but the team as a whole.”
“You start with the leadership standpoint. I mean, he’s a kid that has been athletic, he’s always been explosive. He has those God-given things. Right now, he’s working on those two. But as he’s put in the work, he’s built the confidence, that’s given him the confidence to go out and lead others, and that’s where I think he’s really grown.”

Florida State Seminoles continued its prep for the start of the 2022 season on Thursday, returning to the Dunlap Practice Facility for the second day of fall camp.
The Seminoles got an early start on its preseason this year due to a Week 0 game vs. Duquesne.
“One of the great things that has been adjusted and adapted with the NCAA this year is we got a couple of extra days to be able to work with,” head coach Mike Norvell said during ACC media days earlier this month. “So now we have 25 practices in a 31-day period of time, which allows a couple more off days, allows us to give more rest and recovery for our players throughout that fall camp schedule.”

Syracuse Football: Why I’ll be #pl34sed when Sean Tucker wins Heisman (itlh; Fiello)
As we covered here previously, the Syracuse Athletic department launched a campaign they’re referring to as #pl34sed for Syracuse football star running back Sean Tucker. The purpose of the hashtag is to launch a campaign on behalf of Tucker as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
This combines Tucker’s social media posts about whether or not he was “pleased with his performance” after games along with the desire to get fans and media talking about the possibility.
Recently I was listening to On The Block with Brent Axe where he discussed the issue utilizing a clip from a Locked On ACC audio clip minimizing the possibility and then later Brent wrote about it on Syracuse.com.

Illinois football quarterback breakdown and prediction for the 2022 season (writingillini.com; Woodcock)
Illinois football is heading into the 2022 campaign with some depth at the quarterback position.
The 2021 campaign wasn’t the smoothest of runs for Illini signal callers. Brandon Peters and Artur Sitkowski were the two quarterbacks leading the way, but they only combined for 1,874 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
I would imagine those numbers are far below the college football average, but honestly, Illinois has been pretty bad when it comes to the quarterback position over the last decade.
Going back to the past 10 seasons of Illinois football, the Illini quarterback numbers are shockingly bad. In that 10-year span, Illinois averaged 2,333 yards, 14.8 touchdowns, and 10.9 interceptions per season. They only competed an average of 56% of their passes as well.
Bret Bielema has done a good job building the quarterback room for the Illinois football program.
Through roughly 18 months of being on the job, Bret Bielema has helped the Illini quarterback situation tremendously.
The old coaching regime couldn’t figure out the right formula for putting together a competitive quarterback group, but Bielema has been able to find a nice mix of transfers and young guys to fill out the roster.
Heading into the 2022 season, I have incoming transfer, Tommy DeVito, getting the nod over Sitkowski. DeVito is a talented quarterback who transferred in after four seasons with the Syracuse Orange.
Injuries at Syracuse forced DeVito out of the starting job, but he has a chance to redeem himself with a different shade of orange at Illinois. The fact his backup, Sitkowski, is an experienced veteran who has time in the Bielema system, gives me a ton of confidence in what we have at quarterback entering the season.

FOOTBALL: Canandaigua's Ryan Poles opens up his first training camp as the Chicago Bears general manager (fltimes.com; Staff)
On Tuesday the Chicago Bears opened up their 2022 training camp in Lake Forest, Illinois.
Why is that significant?
It’s because that’s the start of Canandaigua graduate Ryan Poles’ first training camp as the general manager of the Bears as he prepares for his first season as an NFL GM.
Poles, 36, had been an executive in the Kansas City Chiefs organization since 2009, which includes his Super Bowl ring he obtained in 2020 when he was the assistant director of player personnel at the time.
Since being named as the Bears GM back in January of this year, he has already made an impact with boosting the offensive line in Chicago.
Poles added tackle Riley Reiff and guard Michael Schofield in his first off-season.
Reiff, a former first round draft pick, played for the Bengals in 2021 and has started in 140 of his 148 total games played in the NFL.
Schofield was a third round pick back in 2014 by the Denver Broncos and spent some time with Los Angeles Chargers in 2021. His biggest accomplishment was winning Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos back in 2016.
Poles is just getting started in Chicago but with the main focus of protecting second-year quarterback Justin Fields is a great start in bringing back success to the Bears franchise.
The Bears will open up the 2022 regular season schedule at home against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m.
