Welcome to Cyber Monday!

Cyber Monday takes place on the Monday after Thanksgiving, and is the largest online shopping day of the year in the United States. The term was coined by Ellen Davis of the National Retail Federation, while working with Scott Silverman and others, at Shop.org. In 2005, shortly before Thanksgiving, Shop.org put out a press release highlighting the growing amount of sales that took place on the day. Research from 2004 had shown that the day was the 12th largest online shopping day of the year. After the term made its debut, it has been used as a marketing tool by retailers, and the public has embraced the day. As of 2017, sales have increased each year since its inception, transforming the day from the 12th largest online shopping day, to the largest. In 2006 there were $610 million of sales on the day, and in 2016 there were $3.45 billion in sales, marking the first time online sales had passed $3 billion on a single day in the United States. Half or more of the sales from the day are from work computers, suggesting that consumers still want to do more shopping after Black Friday, want to take advantage of the days' deals, or want to hide the gifts they are buying for family members.

Syracuse enters AP Poll at No. 23, 1st time ranked under Fran Brown (DO; Andrews)

Syracuse has entered the AP Top-25 Poll for the first time under head coach Fran Brown, slotting in at No. 23 of this week’s rankings, which were released Sunday. The Orange shocked then-No. 8 Miami Saturday in a 42-38 upset win at the JMA Wireless Dome, launching them into the national rankings and ending the Hurricanes’ Atlantic Coast Conference title game bid.

Saturday’s result was SU’s first win over a top-10 opponent since beating then-No. 2 Clemson in 2017 and its third ranked victory of 2024. It also clinched the Orange’s third season with nine-plus wins since 2000 and the first regular season that ended with them in the top-25 since 2018.

“This win shows that Syracuse is for real,” SU quarterback Kyle McCord, who threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns against Miami, said. “To be a part of that team that turned things around and got things going in the right direction, I think that’s going to last forever.”

Early on against Miami, it looked like the Orange would get blown to bits. They trailed 21-0 by the early stages of the second quarter as Hurricanes’ star quarterback Cam Ward diced through SU’s secondary with ease.

Then, McCord and Co. got in a rhythm, scoring three unanswered touchdowns. Back-to-back respective touchdown drives by Ward and McCord made it 28-28. Then safety Devin Grant tallied a 56-yard scoop and score to put SU ahead by seven entering the fourth.

Miami clawed back to a tie game with a quick seven-point drive, but LeQuint Allen Jr. punched in a touchdown run on the opposite end to make it 42-35. Ward was brought down by Marlowe Wax on a third-and-goal scramble, which forced a Hurricanes’ field goal with 3:42 left to play. From there, the Orange ran the clock out with a few Allen Jr. carries and an 11-yard jet sweep to Trebor Peña — which gave SU the game-sealing first down.

“To bring back that winning culture of ‘Cuse and show everybody that ‘Cuse is back, this is just the beginning,” Grant, a transfer from Buffalo, said of Syracuse’s upset win.

The Orange now await their bowl-game assignment which, considering their top-25 status, could be against a high-level opponent. Heading into this week, Sports Illustrated projected SU to play Florida in the Gator Bowl on Jan. 2, while CBS Sports had Syracuse facing off with USC in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.

Axe: Kyle McCord’s place on Mt. Rushmore of Syracuse quarterbacks is set (podcast) (PS; $; podcast; Axe)

Syracuse football’s win over No. 6 Miami on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome buttoned up a few trends.

It was Syracuse’s biggest comeback win ever (21 points), gave the Orange its biggest upset since a win over No. 2 Clemson in 2017 and provided the Orange a chance to win 10 games in season for just the third time this century.

The win also sealed SU quarterback Kyle McCord as the program’s first-ever 4,000 yard passer (4,326 yards) and put him on top of the list of single-season touchdowns (29) thrown in an SU uniform along with being the program’s single-season passing yards leader.

For good measure, McCord also finished the season as the top passer in NCAA Division I football this season.

McCord’s historic numbers along with the impact he had on turning around Syracuse football’s fortunes are reasons enough to lock him onto Syracuse football’s Mt. Rushmore of quarterbacks.

Brent Axe discussed that (along with who is on Mt. Rushmore with McCord) and how SU landed its big win over the Hurricanes on Syracuse football postgame presented by Crouse Health.

Along with one of its biggest wins in years against Miami, Syracuse football lands a QB commitment (PS; Carlson)

The Syracuse sideline was packed with recruits before the Orange topped the No. 6 team in the country on Saturday.

One of them was the Orange’s newest verbal commitment, a Class of 2027 quarterback from Maryland named Justin Dixon. He is the second player in the Class of 2027 to commit to the Orange, joining Tank White.

Dixon announced his commitment on X (previously Twitter).

Neither prospect has been ranked yet by the major recruiting websites. Dixon also had an offer from Maryland, according to the recruiting website 247 Sports. According to the quarterback’s social media biography is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds.

What Bowl Game Will Syracuse Play In? (orangefizz.net; Papillo)

I know we’re all still riding the high of Saturday’s 42-38 upset over #6 Miami, but year one of the Fran Brown era is not over yet for Syracuse football. The Orange finished the regular season at 9-3, and are going bowling for the third straight season. But rejoice ‘Cuse fans, there will not be another Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl or Boca Raton Bowl in the cards, as the Orange solidified themselves this year into a top bowl game. Let’s take a deep dive into some possible opponents and locations for Syracuse football’s postseason.

DirecTV Holiday Bowl – vs. Washington State

In an article published to ESPN+ earlier this morning, one of the experts predicted Syracuse would head west for the third time this season. The projection has them playing in sunny San Diego, California against Washington State. Personally, I love this matchup for the Orange. At one point this season, the Cougars sat at 8-1 (with their only loss to Heisman hopeful Ashton Jeanty and Boise State) and were ranked number 21 in the first rendition of the College Football Playoff rankings. The wheels fell off the bus though, as Wazzu lost the last three games and “lost” the Pac-12. The possibility of seeing SU travel to the Pacific time zone for the third time in a season preaches chaos to me, and Fran Brown has done nothing but embrace it.

TaxSlayer Gator Bowl – vs. Florida

The chances of both quarterbacks actually playing in this matchup wouldn’t be likely but tell me you wouldn’t pay to see Kyle McCord face off with DJ Lagway. The biggest selling point for this possible contest, especially for Syracuse, is that it’s against an SEC opponent. Fran Brown’s message after taking down Miami was that Syracuse is back, and there’s no better way to solidify that than with a matchup against a perennial powerhouse in the best conference in the country. It was a disappointing season for UF standards at 7-5, but the Gators upset multiple ranked opponents towards the end of their season, why not one more in the newly cemented #23 Orange? The game would be played in Jacksonville, Florida though, so it’s a major home-field advantage to Florida, but in terms of pure football, sign me up.

Duke’s Mayo Bowl – vs. Minnesota

As Syracuse football enters top-25 polls, here's why 'Cuse should be higher than UNLV (itlh; Adler)

On Sunday, Syracuse football deservingly arrived in the major top-25 polls, following the Orange's upset of No. 6 Miami the day before in the 2024 regular-season finale at the JMA Wireless Dome.

The 'Cuse improved to 9-3 overall and 5-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference competition after the squad had its largest comeback victory in program history on Saturday. The Hurricanes raced out to a 21-0 lead in the first half, but Syracuse football ended up prevailing by a final count of 42-38.

First-year head coach Fran Brown has declared that the Orange "is back," and it's hard to disagree with his assertion. The 'Cuse was projected to finish at No. 12 in the ACC standings, according to the league's preseason media poll, but Syracuse football is currently in a tie for fourth place in the conference.

The major top-25 polls were revealed on Sunday afternoon. In the Coaches poll, the Orange is No. 25. Over at the Associated Press poll, Syracuse football is No. 23. Also on Sunday, ESPN updated its top-25 power rankings, and the 'Cuse is No. 24.

Fun things. I assume that later this week, when the College Football Playoff top-25 ratings are updated, the Orange will make the cut, and deservingly so.

But why is UNLV ahead of Syracuse football in the top-25 polls?

Okay, so I don't get too hung up on top-25 polls. For one, they're subjective. Secondly, I'm just ecstatic that the Orange is ranked following week 14. The 'Cuse will play in a bowl game for the third straight year, and if the team can prevail in the post-season, Syracuse football will reach 10 victories for the first time since 2018.

That being said, one facet that struck a nerve with me on Sunday was seeing UNLV ahead of the Orange in the polls. The Rebels are No. 19 in both the AP and Coaches ballots. Syracuse football, respectfully, should be higher than UNLV.

Axe: Syracuse football is on to something better than being ‘back’ under Fran Brown (PS; $; Axe)

The three most impactful yet inaccurate words Fran Brown has said since being hired as Syracuse football head coach were uttered during an ESPN interview in the euphoric haze of SU’s historic comeback win over Miami on Saturday.

“Syracuse is back.”

Syracuse. Is. Back.

Now where have I heard that before?

Once upon a time in 2018 Syracuse football felt “back” after Dino Babers and Eric Dungey orchestrated a 10-win season that culminated with a Camping World Bowl victory that may as well have been the Rose Bowl with how it changed the vibe about Syracuse football.

Babers was granted an extension that the SU fan base outright demanded Syracuse AD John Wildhack bestow upon him.

I’ll spare you the rest of the history lesson, but that’s why Brown has been in charge of Syracuse football for the past year.

Brown won nine games in his head-coaching debut and will have a chance to earn a 10th Orange victory in a season for just the third time this century in SU’s upcoming bowl game.

Syracuse football: Takeaways from 42-38 victory over #6 Miami (TNIAAM; Ostrowski)

Syracuse Orange football fans witnessed the program’s top win of the century yesterday - no exaggeration - as Fran Brown finished off his first regular season with a 42-38 victory over the #6 Miami Hurricanes. It was a game that left everyone on the edges of their seats throughout the second half, but I won’t leave you on yours as we dive into the final takeaways of the 2024 campaign.

Cardiac ‘Cuse is a Football Friendly Term

It would have been so easy for ‘Cuse to completely lose focus after having their first TD of the game taken off the board on an illegal formation penalty. It would have been even easier for them to lie down once the ‘Canes built a 21-0 lead. I should know - I’ve covered my share of games that got out of hand early and never came close to being reeled in.

But those Syracuse teams were not led by Fran.

Instead, the Orange turned to the man they’ve leaned on all season - field general Kyle McCord - to reignite both their offense and the Dome crowd. And he did.

Four straight completions for 65 yards got SU into goal-to-go territory before LeQuint Allen punched it though for the score. From there, the game went from being in danger of a rout to a very winnable battle. The oft-criticized defense forced a three-and-out, with Duce Chestnut breaking up a slant for the stop, the Orange offense scored again before half, and then 39 seconds into the third quarter, it was a tie game.

When has Syracuse ever had that kind of momentum shift? Short answer, no - this was the largest comeback in program history. The one over Virginia Tech was close... but the difference this time is while watching, I really did have confidence that they could rally. To do it, this team showed the best of what Brown’s coaching has done.

Whether it was Jackson Meeks and Trebor Pena making absurd catch after absurd catch - both finished with over 100 yards receiving - Devin Grant, revealed postgame to be playing on a Torn MCL for the past month, taking a fumble back for the first Orange lead, or LeHurdle Allen finding one last burst of speed to ice the game, there’s credit to be shared all around.

Syracuse Football: Beautiful reactions across 'Cuse Nation after upset of No. 6 Miami (itlh; Adler)

In the aftermath of Syracuse football upsetting No. 6 Miami on Saturday afternoon at the JMA Wireless Dome to finish the 2024 regular season at 9-3 overall, the outpouring of beautiful sentiments on social media has proven extensive, to say the least.

First-year head coach Fran Brown, who is also a first-time head coach at the collegiate level, and his top-flight staff have guided this Orange 2024 roster on a fabulous journey, including those nine regular-season wins, a tie for No. 4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings after the 'Cuse was projected to finish at No. 12 in the league race, a third straight bowl game for the program, and a likely spot in the top-25 rankings this week.

What the Orange has achieved this term is remarkable, and the team has a chance to get to 10 triumphs in a season for the first time since 2018 if Syracuse football can conquer its foe in the upcoming bowl game.

Understandably, after the 'Cuse stormed back from a 21-point, first-half deficit to beat the Hurricanes by a final count of 42-38, the reactions on X since that outcome transpired have been absolutely sensational. Just poignant, wonderful, funny, awesome and tremendous.

The Syracuse football fan base and the greater 'Cuse community are loving the Orange's win over Miami.

Since the 'Cuse conquered the Hurricanes, I've been retweeting stuff non-stop. It's a blast, although it's also hard to keep up. That's a good problem to have.

Football School - Fran Brown Is The Messiah At Syracuse And Kyle McCord Without a Doubt Was Never The Problem At Ohio State (barstoolsports.com; hubbs)

Syracuse Football has been in desperate need of an awakening for quite some time. It's been brutal, man. Looking back at their recent coaches and seeing Doug Marrone as the clear cut best guy is not a pretty sight. Since Marrone you had the incompetent Scott Shafer and the overmatched Dino Babers. Neither of those guys were close to the answer and only set the program back further.

In steps Fran Brown.

"I'm From Camden. I Was On Welfare. I'm Good. I'm Not Going Anywhere" - Fran Brown Blew Everyone Away During His Opening Press Conference...

Bryan Bennett. Getty Images.Fran Brown was introduced as Syracuse's new head football coach today. Going into today I didn't really know much about this guy other than he's beloved everywhere he goes...

When Fran was announced as the new Syracuse head coach it was seen as a big breath of fresh air. That being said, it was for sure a gamble considering his resume. Fran had never been a head coach in his career, with his highest honor handling the DBs at Georgia. He was, however, known as the best recruiter in the country. This guy can convince you to come to play ball. Only snag in that was the always-changing landscape of college football with NIL and conference realignment. Recruiting was a bit different than it had been in the past. Cuse needed to open the checkbook to coaches and players if they were really going to change the losing culture that was establishment by Babers, Shafer, and Marrone. They needed a QB who could air it out.

Enter Kyle McCord.

Syracuse football: the numbers behind the Orange’s historic upset win over #6 Miami (TNIAAM; Chiappone)

Syracuse Orange nation continues to embrace a historic day for the football program after overcoming a 21-point deficit to stun the No. 6 Miami Hurricanes in the regular season finale.

The win means a lot more than Syracuse ending head coach Fran Brown’s first year on a very strong note, or the consequences it had for the 2024 ACC Championship or will have for the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.

To hep contextualize everything from Saturday’s major win, here are just a few of the most important facts to digest from Syracuse’s 42-38 victory and what it means in the program’s history:

1998

Syracuse had lost its last six games to the Hurricanes, five of which came when both teams were in the Big East. 1998 marks the last time Syracuse beat The U as a ranked opponent. The Orange that year ended No. 25 in the final AP poll, finished 8-4 and earned a trip to the Orange Bowl versus Florida. This is also just the second time the Orange got a win over the Hurricanes as an AP top-25 team, the first where Miami began the game in the top-10.

NCAA Football: Miami at Syracuse

42 points

1998 also marks the last time Syracuse has gotten at least 40 points against The U. In the ‘98 game, Syracuse won 66-13. This was the third-most points Syracuse has ever scored against Miami in their 22 all-time matchups dating back to 1960.

2017

This win is the first time Syracuse has defeated an AP top-six opponent since the iconic upset win at home over the then-No. 2 Clemson Tigers. Ironically, Syracuse the very next game played a Hurricanes team who was No. 8 in the nation, falling 27-19 at Hard Rock Stadium.

Syracuse football reporter accuses Miami mascot of hitting on her during game (nypost.com; Staszewski)

A Syracuse football reporter is claiming the football game wasn’t the only one the Miami mascot was worried about on the sidelines.

Ashley Wenskoski, a sports anchor and reporter for CNY Central, called out the Hurricanes’ mascot, Sebastian, for hitting on her during the Orange’s 42-38 upset win at the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

The mascot didn’t have much luck either and got publicly outed in the process.

Syracuse football’s win over Miami vaults Orange back into the Top 25 (PS; Axe)

Syracuse football’s historic comeback win over No. 6 Miami punched its ticket back into the college football polls.

The Orange is slotted at No. 23 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Sunday.

Miami fell to No. 14 as a result of its loss to the Orange.

The Orange (9-3, 5-3 ACC) came back from a 21-point deficit, the largest comeback in program history, topping a 20-point comeback win at South Florida in 2012. Syracuse entered the game having lost 25 of its last 26 games against top-10 opponents.

Syracuse was last ranked in Week 10 of the 2022 season at No. 22.

The last time Syracuse finished a season ranked was 2018.

Syracuse was also ranked in the USA Today/AFCA Coaches Poll this week at No. 25.

The Orange is awaiting its bowl game assignment on Dec. 8.

Syracuse QB Kyle McCord Gives Honest Four-Word Response to Former Team Ohio State Losing (SI; Williams)

Former Ohio State turned Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord had a pretty good day Saturday. The Orange upset No. 6 Miami 42–38, and his former Buckeyes lost 13–10 in the Michigan rivalry game.

When asked about Ohio State losing to Michigan, which ended in a huge brawl that resulted in some players being pepper sprayed, McCord gave quite the interesting response.

"Everything comes full circle," McCord said, causing his teammates and the audience to laugh.

Maybe there's some bad blood between the quarterback and his former team.

McCord left the Buckeyes after the 2023 season. The full extent of his decision to leave isn't known, even though many have speculated that his game-losing interception against Michigan last season was a big reason for the transfer. Ohio State lost its spot in the playoffs with that loss in the infamous rivalry game.

Syracuse won't make the 2024 College Football Playoff, but they did end their season on a high note, going 9–3 under coach Fran Brown and McCord's first seasons in New York.

Syracuse Football has to BUILD on 9-3 Regular Season | Syracuse Orange Podcast (youtube; podcast; Locked on Syracuse)

Syracuse Orange Football completed the 2024 college football season with a 9-3 record after a 42-38 victory over the Miami Hurricanes in the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse Head Coach Fran Brown might've had the greatest first year season in program history, surpassing all-time greats Paul Pasqualoni, Dick MacPherson, and Ben Schwartzwalder. Kyle McCord was a revelation, and proved the Ohio State Buckeyes should've kept him. Future quarterbacks should want to come to Syracuse now. Plus, the Orange must capitalize on their recent success in recruiting and in the transfer portal.

Jackson Holzer gives his regular season takeaways on this edition of the Locked On Syracuse Podcast.

MIAMI LOSES 42-38 at Syracuse | Orange Bowl Boys Week 14 Recap Show (youtube; podcast; Ornage Bowk Boys)

Well... that was a terrible way to end the regular season...Toast immediately wants to know why the defense failed to make any defensive adjustments after Syracuse seemed to make all of the adjustments to overcome a 21-point deficit. Roman also reminds everyone that he has been a beeping smoke detector all season about how bad the defense has been and it was ignored and sure enough burned the house down.

But we don't want this show to be a pile-on after yesterday's debacle, we also want to look at the overall trajectory of the program after finishing with a 10-2 season. That said, Roman goes OFF as he calls for Lance Guidry to be fired because of how bad the defense has been (especially in the secondary) and there were no signs of improvement.

Toast also calls out a few players, because we don't do that on this podcast, but with the regular season over he needs to talk about Jacolby George and the penalty that likely cost Miami the game. And Scoop points out that this was a game we KNEW was going to be a slugfest and what Kyle McCord was going to do, and wasted another Heisman worthy day from Cam Ward who will not win the Heisman because of the offense.

College football rankings: What Miami's loss to Syracuse means for ACC title game, College Football Playoff | Sporting News (sportingnews.com; Moriarty)

No. 6 Miami fell, 42-38, on the road to Syracuse on Saturday afternoon. The Hurricanes entered the game just one win away from playing in the ACC championship game in Charlotte, and Miami's loss had big implications for the title race.

The win for the Orange means Miami cannot play for an ACC title game, which also means the Hurricanes no longer have a shot at a top-four spot and first-round bye in the 2024 College Football Playoff.

How Syracuse upset the Canes at home

Miami led, 21-14, at halftime, but this game came down to the wire. The Orange took a 42-35 lead with 9:16 left off a LeQuint Allen touchdown. On Miami's ensuing possession, the Canes had to settle for a field goal to pull within four.

Syracuse's offense got the ball back with 3:42 left. With less than two minutes left, Miami's Mishael Powell got flagged for offsides, which gave Syracuse another first down. From there, the Orange were able to run the ball for another first down and run out the clock, sealing the upset victory.

How does this affect Miami's playoff implications?

With this loss to an unranked Syracuse, Miami will drop significantly in the College Football Playoff rankings. And with the loss, the Canes now cannot play for an ACC title.

With the conference loss to Syracuse, Miami drops to third in the ACC standings. Clemson's 7-1 ACC record is good enough to send them to Charlotte.

SMU, which beat Cal 38-6 on Saturday, already clinched a spot in the conference championship game last week with its win over Virginia. The Mustangs are 11-1 overall with just one loss to out-of-conference BYU earlier this season.

Miami's fate is in the hands of the College Football Playoff committee. Cam Ward says the Hurricanes deserve a shot (cbsnews.com)

And now, Miami waits.

The next week will be loaded with anxiety for the Hurricanes, who won't play for the Atlantic Coast Conference title and now are left to wonder if their 10-win regular season — capped by a 42-38 loss at Syracuse on Saturday — was good enough to merit an invitation to the College Football Playoff.

They'll find out for certain when the 12-team field is announced next Sunday.

"If they knew what was up, they'd put us in the playoff," Miami quarterback Cam Ward said. "We are that team."

He'll know in a week if the CFP selection committee agrees.

Ward is the best argument Miami (10-2, 6-2 ACC) has for a playoff invitation. The Hurricanes' Heisman Trophy hopeful is the centerpiece of an offense that leads the nation in points per game, yards per game, yards per play and third-down conversion percentage. Miami scored at least 38 points in 10 of its 12 games; no other FBS team had more than eight such games.

"It's not in our hands anymore," said Ward, who rewrote the Miami record book — breaking a slew of school single-season marks including passing yards (4,123), touchdown passes (36), completions (293) and completion percentage (67.4%). "But go look at the stats."

The two losses were one-score games on the road — 28-23 at a Georgia Tech team that went 7-5 and took Georgia to eight overtimes before falling this weekend, and 42-38 to a Syracuse team that went 9-3 and had the nation's leader in passing yards. Kyle McCord has 4,326 yards; he's the only player at the FBS level with more than Ward.

If the Hurricanes could make a case against the other two-loss teams, they would likely point out their unbeaten home record and how they never lost by more than one score — things that they think separate them from the other two- and three-loss teams hoping for invites.

Those making a case against Miami would point to how the defense was extremely vulnerable (giving up 38 or more points in three road games), how some wins weren't dominant (big rallies were needed to beat Virginia Tech and California ) and the fact that no opponent was ranked the week they faced the Hurricanes.

"We can control what we can control, so we have to wait and see," Miami coach Mario Cristobal said. "But certainly, this team has really worked hard and busted its butt to put its best foot forward."

A Clemson win over SMU in the ACC title game this coming weekend likely would doom whatever hope Miami has of making the playoff; the Mustangs would probably still be ranked ahead of the Hurricanes in that scenario. If SMU wins, Miami might have a better chance since a four-loss Clemson surely would not be ahead of the Hurricanes.

If the Hurricanes get in, they'll be playing a first-round playoff game on Dec. 20 or Dec. 21 — almost certainly on the road against a team that will be seeded somewhere between No. 5 and No. 8. The top four seeds will have first-round byes.

If no CFP bid comes, Miami will be settling for a bowl game. And in that scenario, many of the Hurricanes might be opting out to focus on preparing for the NFL draft.

"If we get a chance in the playoff, we're going to make the most of it," Ward said. "We don't care if we're a top-eight seed or the 12th seed. Playoffs, it's anybody's chance. We just hope we get a shot at it."

Yesterday was a roller coaster of emotions for Tiger fans. It started with the hope of reaching the College Football Playoffs with a win against South Carolina, followed by the disappointment of losing that opportunity. Then, Syracuse turned our frowns upside down.

In order for Clemson to reach the ACC Championship — therefore, keeping its CFP hopes alive — Miami needed to lose to Syracuse. The Orangeman fought back from a 21-0 deficit against the No. 6 team in the country to pull off the upset, putting the Tigers in the title match against SMU.

That fact wasn't lost on Syracuse's head coach, Fran Brown. During his on-field interview after the comeback victory, Brown had a humorous message for Clemson's head coach, Dabo Swinney.

"Hey, Dabo Swinney. Congrats. I got you in baby," said the first-year head coach. In a day filled with upsets, Syracuse's game was in primetime, and giving the nod to Swinney in the biggest win of his short career was really cool to see.

...

Why Syracuse coach Fran Brown called Dabo Swinney on FaceTime after Orange shocked Miami (greenvilleonline.com. Carter)

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney was pleasantly surprised when he returned home Saturday.

The No. 17 Tigers (9-3) lost 17-14 to in-state rival No. 12 South Carolina in their regular-season finale at Memorial Stadium. Despite the loss, Clemson made the ACC championship game because Syracuse defeated Miami hours later.

Swinney wasn't too optimistic when Miami led 21-0 in the second quarter while he was at Memorial Stadium dealing with postgame duties. He turned the game on when he returned home and saw Syracuse lead 35-28 in the third quarter.

"I was like, 'Wow.' Then all of a sudden, when the game was over, my phone starts blowing up," Swinney said Sunday.

Many of Swinney's friends, players and colleagues reached out after Syracuse completed the upset and helped Clemson clinch an ACC championship berth. Then, he received a surprise FaceTime call from Syracuse coach Fran Brown.

"That was wild. Put that in my memoir one day. That was a first," Swinney said. "He was hilarious on the FaceTime call. … I can't really repeat what he said. It was kind of colorful but hilarious"

Swinney didn't know Brown shouted him out at the end of Brown's postgame interview with ESPN either, until people sent him the clip. Swinney added Brown was excited for the Tigers making it to their 10th ACC title game in program history.

ACC Football Review: Will SMU, Miami, Clemson Get Into College Football Playoff? (SI; Curtis)

OK, so we know SMU and Clemson will meet in the ACC championship game on Saturday at 8 p.m. Eastern time in Charlotte, North Carolina. We also know SMU is a slight favorite, with both FanDuel and DraftKings making the Mustangs 2.5-point favorites as of Sunday morning.

But we have questions about how the results of that game will affect the chances of SMU, Clemson and Miami to reach the 12-team College Football Playoff. The field for the College Football Playoff will be announced on Sunday.

The CFP rankings to be released Tuesday will give a better idea of where things stand, although CFP rankings figure to closely parallel the AP rankings released Sunday.

Which ACC teams would get into the College Football Playoff if SMU beats Clemson in the ACC championship game?

In that scenario SMU, which would be 12-1, would get into the College Football Playoff as one of the top four seeds and receive a first-round bye.

Even with its loss to Syrcuse, Miami (10-2 and ranked No. 14 in this week's AP poll) possibly could make the 12-team field and play a first-round CFP game on the road. But it seems more likely that the Hurricanes would be left out in favor of Alabama, a three-loss team ranked No. 11 in the AP poll. The Miami-or-Alabama debate would be a close call and would draw criticism from ACC fans for a second straight year if the Hurricanes are left out.

Clemson, which would be 9-4, would be out with four losses, even though it reached the ACC title game and Miami didn’t.

An SMU win is the scenario that most favors Miami’s chances, but an SMU win also means the ACC might get just one team in the College Football Playoff.

Lashlee, Swinney hoping for 3 ACC teams in CFP (ESPN; Hale)

The ACC is hoping it won't be a one-bid league, and the two coaches playing for the conference championship made it clear there are at least two -- and possibly three -- teams worthy of a College Football Playoff bid.

SMU and Clemson will face off Saturday with the ACC's guaranteed playoff bid on the line. The problem for SMU is the Mustangs are safely in as of today with an 11-1 record, but a loss to Clemson in the ACC championship game could put the Mustangs' playoff hopes in jeopardy as the SEC pushes to get at least one of its four 9-3 programs -- Alabama, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Missouri -- into the 12-team field.

"I think our kids have earned the right to be one of the 12 best teams in America, and I really hope the committee sees it that way," SMU coach Rhett Lashlee said. "I do hope the committee continues to value our résumé and our total body of work. The reality is, there's two Power 4 teams that went undefeated in their conference, and that's Oregon and us. To me, that should mean a lot."

SMU currently has the No. 9 strength of record, according to ESPN, and the No. 75 strength of schedule, despite playing a 10-2 BYU and 8-4 TCU out of conference. SMU's loss to BYU came by just three points in the last game before the Mustangs made a change at quarterback, going from Preston Stone to Kevin Jennings. Since Jennings took over, SMU is 9-0, averaging more than 40 points per game and a 20 points-per-game average margin of victory.

Clemson needs to win to make the playoff after falling to South Carolina 17-14 in Week 14, but coach Dabo Swinney said the ACC's depth and strength was on display all season and warrants multiple bids -- regardless of who wins the league championship.

"For SMU, they want to win the game, but they should be in no matter what. They've earned that. I don't think they should be punished. I know the system is set up to be what it is, but they're an 11-1 football team," he said. "And for us, we've got to win. But we control our destiny. If we'd had a great regular season, maybe we'd have that opportunity, but we've got to win. But SMU, they should be in."

ACC Power Rankings: Where does Syracuse finish with 2024 regular season in the books? (PS; Axe)

The 2024 ACC Championship Game will feature one of the league’s newest members against one that has been in it since Dwight D. Eisenhower was president.

Syracuse spoiled Miami’s chance to play for the league title and perhaps its bid for a College Football Playoff spot.

Georgia Tech played in one of the wildest games in recent memory, Pittsburgh and Virginia continued their free falls to end the season and, of course, FSU lost again.

Here’s how I ranked the ACC following the final weekend of the regular season:

1. Southern Methodist

Record: 11-1 (8-0)

Last week’s rank: 1

Last week’s result: Win 38-6 over California.

This week’s schedule: Saturday vs. Clemson in ACC championship, 8 p.m. (ABC)

Why No. 1? The Mustangs face Clemson in the ACC Championship Game riding a nine-game winning streak in which they’ve scored at least 33 points in eight of those games and held its past two opponents to just 13 total points.

2. Clemson

Record: 9-3 (7-1)

Last week’s ranking: 3

Last week’s result: Loss 17-14 to South Carolina.

This week’s schedule: Saturday vs. SMU in ACC championship, 8 p.m. (ABC)

Why No. 2? Syracuse head coach Fran Brown and quarterback Kyle McCord made sure to remind the Tigers on Saturday who punched their ticket to Charlotte after it got beat by a former Syracuse commit who received “best player in the country” praise by his head coach.

3. Syracuse

Record: 9-3 (5-3)

Last week’s ranking: 4

Last week’s result: Win 42-38 over Miami.

Why No. 3? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’m supposed to take into account the whole season and not have recency bias. Miami has a better overall record. Blah, blah, blah. I didn’t like putting SU below a top-10 team it just beat after trailing 21-0, so how about a compromise with a tie in the third spot?

SU’s more important ranking came by returning to the Top 25 anyway.

3. Miami

Record: 10-2 (6-2)

Last week’s ranking: 2

Last week’s result: Loss 42-38 to Syracuse.

Why No. 3? Lost in the shuffle of SU’s great comeback over Miami was Mario Cristobal’s decision to kick a field goal late in the game. Cristobal doesn’t exactly have a sterling reputation in late-game decision making and that bad call will only throw another giant log on that fire.

ACC Football Power Rankings: Virginia Tech & Syracuse Soar Into Bowl Season (fightinggobbler.com; Roche)

...
5 Duke Blue Devils
9-3 | Next Game: TBA

What a way to finish the regular season for Diaz and the Blue Devils, walking off the Demon Deacons on the road. There is a lot of momentum in Durham going into their bowl game and off-season.

4 Miami Hurricanes
10-2 | Next Game: TBA

What a disappointing weekend for the Hurricanes who were in the driver's seat to face SMU in the Championship Game, but blowing a 21-0 first-half lead at the JMA Wireless Dome is going to hurt for a long time in South Florida.

3 Syracuse Orange
9-3 | Next Game: TBA

What an exclamation point to the regular season from the Organe in Year 1 under Fran Brown, rallying from a 21-0 deficit to stun Miami. The future is bright in New York under Brown.

2 Clemson Tigers
9-3 | 12/7: vs. SMU

The Tigers dropped their battle at home with South Carolina Saturday, but their CFP hopes are alive and well after Miami lost at Syracuse to send Clemson to Charlotte next week to face SMU.

1 SMU Mustangs
11-1 | 12/7: vs. Miami

It was a magical first season for the Mustangs in the ACC who ran the table in all eight games, including Saturday's win over California at home. SMU is one win away from an automatic spot in the CFP.

ACC power rankings: SMU finishes regular season on top after Week 14, Miami atop Clemson (usatoday.com; Meyer)

A 2024 ACC football season that began with 17 teams from coast-to-coast hoping to make it to Charlotte for a chance at a conference championship is now down to two teams whose dreams of a league title remain.

With a win against Cal, SMU completed an undefeated regular season in conference play and will look to maintain that perfect mark against Clemson next Saturday at Bank of America Stadium. Despite a loss to rival South Carolina, the Tigers earned a meeting with the Mustangs after Miami dropped its regular-season finale to Syracuse to fall a game behind Dabo Swinney’s squad in the conference standings.

With the conference championship game set, and with 13 of the league’s programs waiting to learn their postseason fate, here’s how the ACC’s 17 teams stack up after Week 14:

ACC football power rankings

1. SMU (11-1, 8-0 ACC)

  • Last week: 1
  • This week: vs. No. 17 Clemson
Picked to finish seventh in their inaugural season in the league, the Mustangs head into the ACC title game alone atop the conference standings. A win against Clemson in Charlotte will guarantee SMU a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff, though even with a loss — and depending on the fashion in which that hypothetical loss unfolds — coach Rhett Lashlee’s team could still crash the party.

2. Miami (10-2, 6-2)

  • Last week: 2
The Hurricanes stumbled to the finish line, losing two of their final three games following a 9-0 start. In a loss to Syracuse, it wasn’t the fault of quarterback Cam Ward, who finished the season with 4,319 total yards and 40 total touchdowns, but a porous defense that allowed 42 points and 482 total yards. For all of its missteps, Mario Cristobal’s team finishes second in the power rankings despite not making the title game due to a more impressive overall body of work than Clemson.

3. Clemson (9-3, 7-1)

  • Last week: 3
  • This week: vs. No. 7 SMU
Even with home losses to Louisville and, most recently, South Carolina in the final month of the regular season, the Tigers still have a chance to make the playoff, as a victory against SMU in the ACC championship would punch their ticket to the 12-team field. To do that, they’ll have to fare better against Mustangs star quarterback Kevin Jennings than they did against South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, who ran wild with 166 yards and two touchdowns.

4. Syracuse (9-3, 5-3)

  • Last week: 4
What was already a successful first regular season for coach Fran Brown ended on an emphatic note with a 42-38 victory against then-No. 7 Miami. It was the Orange’s third win this season over a team that was ranked at the time of the matchup. On the same day his former Ohio State team was stunned by Michigan, Kyle McCord wrapped up the regular season as the leading passer in the FBS, with 4,326 yards. The future is undeniably bright in central New York.

Saturday Mid-day Results 2024 Nov 30th

The biggest mid-day ACC game was the one that pitted two of the nation's best quarterbacks: Miami's Cam Ward against Syracuse's Kyle McCord. Both threw for well over 300 yards (Ward was 25/36 for 349 yards, 2 TDs, no ints; McCord was 26/36 for 380 yards, 3 TDs, no ints). Ultimately, it came down to which team would make the critical mistake. That team turned out to be the Hurricanes...

#6 Miami 38
Syracuse 42

With 9:16 to play, Miami had 2nd & goal at the Syracuse 8 yard line, when the Canes' Mishael Powell was called for unsportsmanlike conduct. That's a 15-yard penalty, which meant it was now 2nd & goal from the 23. Ward completed an 8-yard pass and ran for 5 more yards, but on 4th & goal at the 10 the coaches chose to kick the field goal and put the game into the hands of a defense which had already given up 437 yards and 42 points. Needless to say, that didn't work out so well, as the Orange offense ate up the remaining 3:42 to win the game.
By losing, the Hurricanes eliminated themselves from the ACC CG, and Clemson gets in through the back door despite losing today - the most #GoACC thing they could possibly do.

Miami vs. Syracuse Game Highlights | 2024 ACC Football

ACCDN: The Orange came back from down 21-0 to defeat the #6 Hurricanes, 41-38. The 21-point comeback is the largest in Syracuse history. Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord threw for 380 yards and three touchdowns on 26-36 passing. Trebor Pena caught six passes for 128 yards and Jackson Meeks had seven catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Running back LeQuint Allen caught six passes for 61 yards and ran for 82 yards and two scores. For Miami, quarterback Cam Ward threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns on 25-36 passing. Wide Receiver Xavier Restrepo had 148 receiving yards and a touchdown on nine catches, while Jacolby George had six receptions for 121 yards.

HAZA Foods, based in Texas, wants to build the fast-food restaurant on a 4.5-acre parcel on land east of Interstate 690. The restaurant would be next to an existing Taco Bell.

The town of Van Buren is reviewing the proposal and still has to conduct a public hearing and decide on site plan approval.

HAZA Foods operates more than 400 Wendy’s across the U.S.
