Someone asked "How did we go from getitng off 90 plays a game to getting off 60 plays a game?" My immediate response was turnovers and penalties disrupting the flow of the offense. But we've had both since the season began. I decided to look up the stats.

vs. Northwestern we ran 95 plays to 72 for the Wildcats. We had 3 turnovers and 12 penalties.
vs. Southern California we ran 87 plays to 63 for the Trojans. We had 2 turnovers and 5 penalties.
vs. Stony Brook we ran 80 plays to 57 for the Seawolves. We had 1 turnover and 8 penalties.
vs. Minnesota we ran 64 plays to 71 for the Golden Gophers. We had 4 turnovers and 10 penalties.
vs. Pittsburgh we ran 64 plays to 70 for the Panthers. We had 1 turnovers and 3 penalties.
vs. Rutgers we ran 74 plays to 59 for the Scarlett Knights. We had 4 turnovers and 7 penalties.

The first three games we averaged getting 87 plays off to 64 for the opposition. We had 6 turnovers and 25 penalties in those games. The second three games we averaged getting 67 plays off to 67 for the oppositon. We had 9 turnovers and 20 penalties in thsoe games. That's three more turnovers, one per game and turnovers obviously are more significant than indivudal penalties but overall the number of "disruptions" in the offense has actually gone down from 31 in the first three games to 29 in the last three. The plays run by the oppostion have barely changed, (64 vs. 67). But the number of our plays have gone down by 20 per game, (87 in the first three games, 67 in the last three games).

So is Nassib just taking too much time getting eveyrone organized and calling the signals? Let's look at something else first:

vs. Northwestern we were 12 for 20 in third down conversions. We got 33 first downs and punted 3 times.
vs. Southern California, we were 8 for 17 in third down conversions, got 27 first downs and punted 6 times.
vs. Stony Brook we were 8 for 16 in third down conversions. We got 27 first downs and punted 4 times.
vs. Minnesota we were 4 for 13 in third down conversions. We got 21 first downs and punted 5 times.
vs. Pittsburgh we were 5 for 14 in third down conversions. We got 19 first downs and punted 6 times.
vs. Rutgers we were 5 for 15 in third down conversions. We got 23 first downs and punted 4 times.

In those firest three games, we were 28 for 53 in third down conversions (53%) and got 87 first downs. We punted 13 times. In the next three games, we were 14 for 42 in third down conversions (33%) and got 63 first downs. We punted 15 times. You'd think it would be more. But the big stat is that we went from getting 87 first downs to 63 and so we went from averaging 87 plays per game to 67, almost the same numbers. And the reason for that is that we went from making it on third down to not making it on third down.
