Gottlieb Says 'Cuse a Final Four w/out Fab if

...press most of the game. Gottlieb says we are deep enough to press and to get to the Final Four...and he says that is what 'Cuse should have done all season. Interesting proposition...lets see if JB employs the press far more now than in earlier games.
Also remember the 3 guard offense JB used in last couple of games for a few minutes...was that a precursor?

We joke about Trunk Monkey but our press is kind of organized chaos...It only works against teams with awful ball handling. It's not a very good press and really sucks with Baye in the back of it because he's so weak. I think it would work a little better with Rak because he's athetic. I doubt we press a lot in the tourney as a weapon because JB will want to avoid foul trouble with our bigs...we'll use the press our of necessity.

I think JB's adjustment will be to collapse the zone and hope teams are ice cold from deep.

Unfortunately, that's exactly the problem.
We need a strong defensive center either way.

I think the best we can hope for is to have our guards put heavy pressure on the ball from the 2-3.
Deny the 3...deny the lane.
All game long.
That means frequent player rotation.
Perhaps Southerland may see some time at the 2.
And Baye and Rak have to give it their all.

I dont know why we never employ a more conservative 2-2-1 press in which you can force turns but dont necessarily give up dunks and layups if they break it. I think it would be particularly effective with MCW and waiters as the guards with their size and quicks.

I hate bumping a Gottlieb thread, but apparently he said today on SportsCenter (or one of the other ESPN shows) that MCW is an NBA point guard? Did anyone catch that? MCW has been retweeting people saying that like crazy.

We have a mediocre press. UNC-Asheville's little guys will bob and weave around it. If we get past UNCA the Kansas State team will blow right past us and BMK and Rak will use up their ten fouls in less than a half. Gottleib has just produced the roadmap to certain early elimination in my opinion (probably just what the little dou#he had in mind).

I meant a true 2-2-1 press executed properly would be the way to go... trunk monkey has a short half-life and would be exploited if applied for 40 minutes.
