Class of 2018 Griffin Gelinas (CT), Attack, Flipped to Michigan

Brunswick (Conn.) attackman Griffin Gelinas has committed to Syracuse. Highly recruited 2018 out of Bronxville: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uHMaLByU274…

Played for NYS Class C Champ Bronxville, NY last season, but is transferring to Brunswick CT for 2015.
This kid shows a ton of promise. Its one thing to stick a ball at 100mph at the cage bout its entirely another when the ball isn't ten feet wide or above the cage and getting it past the goalie within a slim few inches consistently. He might just be the best that Desko has brought into the program. Now if he can find a XO and top end goalie ,there may be a chance that he Orange gets tha long overdue championship back here.

I really like his shot... he gets into it when he has time, keeps moving when he needs to, and isn't afraid to work a lane when there isn't much space.

The second SweetLax team, competing in the U15 bracket, also finished the first day unscathed at 4-0. That team’s roster is made up of many several already-committed players. Another high-powered attack unit, the SweetLax 2017 group features Ross Pridemore (Taft School, Conn./Virginia), Aidan Olmstead (Corning, N.Y./Loyola), Teioshontathe McComber (Salisbury School, Conn.), and Griffin Gelinas (Brunswick School, Conn./Syracuse). Gelinas, who usually plays for the Prime Time program out of the Hudson Valley, tallied two unbelievable goals Monday. One of those came as he caught his own rebound off a goalie’s face mask and quickly scored behind the back; another, though waved off, saw him get inside on a drive from the back corner, get hit and somehow tuck the ball in the top left corner as he was nearly upside down after getting hit on his way to the cage.

Griffin Gelinas, Attack, Brunswick (Conn.)/SweetLax, 2018 – Syracuse

A member of Nick Daniello’s Prime Time, Gelinas joined the SweetLax national team for the trip down south and excelled alongside fellow future Division I attackmen like Aidan Olmstead (Corning, N.Y., 2017, Loyola) and Ross Pridemore (Taft School, Conn., 2018, Virginia). Gelinas looked promising playing with a lot of 2017s. He’s explosive and dangerous when initiating his dodges from the wing or from X, with a quick first step and penchant for getting off a hard overhand righty jump shot. Gelinas scored two of the best goals of the tournament. He somehow managed to snag a rebound from his own shot that rang off a goalie’s face mask, grabbing it and slamming it behind his back. A few minutes later, he weaved his way by a defender and into traffic a few yards out in front, getting hit, nearly turning his body upside down and still sticking an underhand shot high into the nearside corner. It was one of the better showings for Gelinas, though his linemates were all impressive, including still-uncommitted Teioshontathe McComber (Salisbury School, Conn., 2018).

Go to www.jrminutemenlax.com, click on videos and then under king of the hill tournament you will find the game vs Primetime, NJ! Gelinas #17 and Riley Osulllivan #1 hook up well together, both future Orange! Gelinas playing with an older group plays above his years!

There were two other Cuse commits mentioned in that blog

Griffin Gelinas ’18, A, Prime Time / Brunswick (Conn.)
Harrison Caponiti ’18, M, Prime Time / Brunswick (Conn.)

Brunswick School head coach David Bruce has to feel great about having these two (as well as a few other stud rising sophs) for another three seasons. Gelinas, a Syracuse commit, is an excitable, fleet-footed and high IQ player who gets to 5×5 and makes plays. All of those qualities make up for his lack of size, especially his speed and stick skills. Caponiti is a monster, running the field well with awesome athleticism, hammering shots from long range. A few other standouts for PT ’18s were defenseman Braden Burke (John Jay, N.Y.), attackman Matthew Baugher (Greenwich, Conn.) and middie Matthew Magnan (Fox Lane, N.Y.), another commit to ‘Cuse.

Since its inception a handful of years ago, Maverik Showtime – set at Western Connecticut State in Danbury (CT) – has acted as the nation’s premier individual showcase for rising lacrosse prospects in the rising sophomore and junior classes . Players work through three games a day in hopes of making the All-Star Game, which can be considered as one of the biggest honors of the summer.

This year’s event has been off the charts, featuring close to 100 Division I commits between the two age groups. Coaches and evaluators spent close to an hour coming up with this list, coming up with painstaking decisions. Without further ado, here are the four rosters:

Griffin Gelinas ’18, A, Brunswick (Conn.)
One of the finalists for the fastest shot competition, Gelinas dodged with a ton of confidence and got his shot whenever he wanted. His bread and butter was coming around from X and going for a turnaround shot, which he often finished with success. The Syracuse-bound attackman was also money int he bank when had time and room, and put in a ton of effort on the ride.

For the first time this summer, the Inside Lacrosse Recruiting Invitational will feature a Committed Showcase Game presented by Krossover.

With more than 100 players already committed to play college lacrosse from Session III's nearly 40 teams, IL couldn't pass up the opportunity to host such a high-level contest. Concluding ILRI Session III day one, the game is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Goucher College's turf field. Admission is free to spectators.

The rosters, selected by the Inside Lacrosse staff, feature a team predominantly comprised of players heading to Big East or Big Ten programs (cleverly dubbed "Big Easten Elite") vs. a team predominantly comprised of players heading to ACC or Ivy League programs (called "Ivy Coast Premiere"). Check out the rosters below.
