Cross Country Harry Lang Invitational: Sat. 9/3 @ Colgate

Title Defense Begins Saturday

The No. 1 Syracuse men's cross country team and No. 15 women kick off their 2016 seasons on Saturday when the teams take on the Harry Lang Invitational.

The men finished second and the women placed third at the meet last season, which is too early in the season to count towards national qualifying thus often features a limited roster of competitors. 2015 'Cuse grad Cassia Hameline was the 2015 individual champion, while Juris Silenieks placed second in the men's race to lead the Orange.

Stephanie Bitcon placed fourth for the women last year and Shawn Wilson placed third as the top-returning competitors on each side for the men.

The event is scheduled to get underway at 11:30 a.m. at the Lang Course in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday.

Men’s Freshman of the Week – Griff Molino, Freshman, Syracuse
Molino led a pack of eight Syracuse runners (three racing as unattached) to cross the finish line at the Harry Lang Invitational and sweep the meet for the Orange. The Williamsport, Pa., native racing in his first meet for Syracuse, finished first in the overall meet in in 20:08.8.

Women’s Freshman of the Week – Madeleine Davison, Freshman, Syracuse

Davison, competing in her first collegiate meet, pulled away down the stretch of the Harry Lang Invitational to take the individual title, while leading the team to a clean sweep of the meet’s top-five positions. The Wexford, Pa., native completed the 5k course in 17:49.7 to seal the victory.
