Think about this if the voting was done today:
BE player of the year: Dion Waiters
BE sixth man of the year: Dion Waiters
BE most improved player: Dion Waiters...the challenge might be from FAB MELO.

I think the first two awards are a no brainer. The most improved player might be hard to take away from FAB. However if you think about what Dion did last year and what he is doing this year it's hard not to give him all three awards.

or what if drummond were to pull off rookie/player/defender?

no way drummond wins with 10 and 8 on that team. not even a remote chance.

dion can only win POY with his stats because of them team he is on.

I think if the season ended today kevin jones is the POY.

Without a doubt. He leads the conference in scoring and rebounding by a healthy margin.

Dion won't get the PT to win the POY award, it's that simple.

Per 40 min:
Waiters: 23ppg, 5apg, 3.4rpg, 4spg
Jones: 22ppg, 1apg, 12rpg, 1spg

who's the #1 pick next draft?

They will bend over backwards to give awards to upper classmen and not to freshmen.

the draft and big east POY have NOTHING to do with eachother and are not related in any single way whatsoever.

how was hansbrough's draft status last year?

ask kemba bout that . but ... has any big east player ever been drafted #1 overall and not been BE player of the year?

I may be mistaken, but Carmelo was a bigger prospect than drummond... Just went in a more talented year.

Off the top of my head, Allen Iverson was #1 overall in 1996 and I'm pretty sure Ray Allen was Big East POY that year.

tooshay. ray was picked 5th overall . i now agree walkon freshman drummond has no shot at BE player of the year.also iverson was also defensive player twice and rookie poy.

Keep in mind BE awards are based mostly on BE regular season games/stats (or so it's been said).

Waiters should win 6th man in a landslide and if he doesn't, it's only because someone gets hurt on Syracuse and Waiters is forced to start a lot of games.

POY is going to be a pretty fierce competition. Right now Waiters is on the list but I don't see how he wins over Jones or Pope if they continue at their level. If he got the minutes he would have a good shot at it. DJO at Marquette also may be in the running. Interestingly, I think a lot of the same players will be in the running for Most Improved.

Drummond is at 10.7 PPG, 9.8 RPG and 2.2 BPG right now in BE play but would have to vastly increase his scoring in the next 12 BE games to be seriously considered for BE POY. He is probably in the running (with Harkless as the other main competitor) for BE Newcomer of the Year (or whatever they call this) and may have an outside shot at being named to BE first team if he maintains his level of play.

The most interesting race this year might be for defensive player of the year. I don't think Drummond has a chance at it. He is only averaging 2.6 bpg, 26th in the country. Fab Melo is averaging 2.8 (16th in the country) and Gorgui Dieng of UL is getting 3.3 (7th in the country).

Fuquan Edwin of SHU is quietly leading the country is steals with 3.0 per game. He has to be considered. Russ Smith of UL is averaging 2.4 spg (18th in the country) and Dion Waiters is averaging 2.3 spg (25th in the country). From my perspective, Dion's defense tends to dominate games and is very noticeable, but I doubt he gets the award. Not enough steals and steals in general typically do not get the respect that blocks do in this category. If Andy Rautins didn't get the award his senior season (he did not), I don't see Dion getting it. But given the lack of premiere shot blockers in the conference this season, Edwin has a good chance, especially if he ends up leading the country in spg.

I would venture to guess that drummond has a very good shot to be the 1st walk on to win ROY

I agree on almost all counts. I'm not sold on Russ Smith winning the award though.

If someone wins this award who is not a shotblocker, I am pretty sure it will be Edwin...

Realorange I agree Anthony Davis will most likely be the #1 draft pick
