I'm not sure that what they accomplished this year has been recognized enough.
Against L'ville, Uconn, Nwestern, and SB they gained the most yards that each of those teams gave up all year, second most for Rutgers and Cinci, third for USF and USC, fourth for Missouri, and fifth for Temple. Only against Minnesota and Pitt did they under perform.
Rushing, most given up by Uconn and L'ville, second most for SB and Temple, third most for Cinci fourth for USF.
Passing, most given up by Nwestern and SB, second for Rutgers, USC, and USF, third for Missouri, and Minnesota, fourth for Cinci, fifth for Uconn and Louisville.
Scoring, most points given up by Nwestern, Louisville, and Uconn, second most for USF and SB, third for Cinci and Temple, fourth for USC, fifth for Rutgers and Missouri.
They were great out of the gate and at the end. Only poor performance was Minnesota.
And it's not like they played a bunch of bad defenses.
Only Temple and Minnesota are in the bottom half of run defenses statisically, only Temple in total defense and scoring. The pass defenses were a little easier, Nwestern, USF, Cinci, USC, and Missouri are all in the bottom half.
