I think Larry Fedora's seat should be much hotter than apparently it is. I never would have approved that extension, and I would have fired him this season. I think Fedora is a hot house flower, and I am certain he has wasted talent, which almost certainly has hurt recruiting as well as team morale.

Babers has delivered a big signature win each year at Syracuse, but each team finished 4-8. The last Syracuse coach to have 3 consecutive losing seasons was Greg Robinson, and keeping him led to a 4th consecutive losing season.

So I assume that if Babers cannot deliver a bowl team in 2018 that he will be replaced.

And that gets us around to Fedora. UNC travels to the Carrier Dome next year. I think there is a good chance that the loser of that game will find his seat much hotter. We have a ton of Fedora excusers (who increasingly remind me of Bunting excusers), but Fedora is only 1-12 in his last 13 games versus a P5 opponent. So a loss to a team coming off 4 consecutive losing seasons would be a blow.

What do you think are the odds that Syracuse can lose to UNC and still finish with at least 6 wins?

I don't think Babers seat is hot at all to be honest. Sure, there will be people screaming that he needs to produce, but as long as he continues to show improvement, his seat will be just fine. TBH, I think next year is going to be a very good year, partly due to QB depth.

Even if we drop our game against UNC - I still feel like the ability to go bowling will be there.

Syracuse will never get back to success if they keep firing a coach every 3-4 years.

Not even a thought. He’s here as long as he wants to be.

Robinson took over a team that tied for the Big East title and made a bowl game, so mentioning them in the same breath is ridiculous regardless of any technicalities.

Babers took over a program that had been run into the ground, in an incredibly tough league.

You can’t keep switching coaches. Babers is improving things. He’s got all the time in the world.

After going to Miami and competing quite well but coming up short this year, I’m looking forward to getting UNC in the Dome next year. Personally think we would’ve been bowl bound if we were in that division this year.

And speaking of UNC - I attended very disappointing Dome losses to them in 96 and 02. We owe them one. I left the Dome furious after both of those games(didn’t realize how great UNC’s 96 team was at the time).

*I did attend that road win in ‘95 too, McNabb’s first career game. But I want a home W!

Dino needs 4 years. Yes, i do think we are behind schedule for the "rebuild". That said he needs 4 solid years. He just has to stop with the game 6, year 2 promises and needs to really look at our defensive scheme. This combo of offensive and defensive styles is unknown and unproven at the P5 level. Would love to see it work and click.

We are a fanbase that has coaching-change fatigue.

We have a head coach that appears competent to most and puts a good face out there for the program.

Recruiting seems to be going well.

In my opinion, his seat should be warm if he has another 4-8 season. His seat should be hot if we don't go to a bowl by year 4.

I remember the '02 game. This woman sitting behind me said, "oh well, onto basketball season. We have this great freshman named Carmelo Anthony."

You don't measure a rebuild by W/L in year 2. It is all about progress in recruiting. The AD knows how to judge Dino. String 3 good classes in a row, build the roster = very cold seat.

I agree to a extent, but there are style points involved too. Cant lose to MTSU and play the way we did in Nov. I get it, some on here argue depth, but we actually stayed healthy this year relative to other programs. The team mailed it in when ED went down. That cant happen. Yes, i am a fan of the recruiting trends.

I remember we went for two and got it on some trick HB pass play with Rhodes, I remember a Riddle Punt Return TD taken back by penalty, and I remember their kicker kept hitting 50+ yarders. Like 3 of them. Tough loss.

But yes, that was a special time for hoops.

Babers seat is nowhere near hot as you noted, however, he certanly doesn't have a lifetime rope or the cache to "be here as long as he wants", at least not yet.

My car has three settings to warm the seat. It would depend on what setting he would use.
