I trust Fran but boy oh boy I’m getting a little nervous. Just gonna say it how I see it. We are losing a lot more in the portal than I thought we would. Peña was a big hit. Now we are losing some big time depth pieces, especially along the o-line. Coming off a 10 win season did not see that coming. This team is really a shell of itself from last season and has LOST A LOT. And we have a very tough schedule. Just calling it how it is but Fran has been pretty adamant he wants to build the roster through the high school ranks.

But he’s going to need to hit the portal hard this spring and land some good players. We probably need an o-lineman or two that will at least be on the 2 deep. Definitely need a linebacker that is capable of starting. Another corner would be nice that is capable of starting. An edge rusher and possibly a slot receiver now that Peña is gone but our receiver room is deep. We need these players from the portal. Not just for depth purposes but they are positions of need that we need players out of the portal in the next month or two that can actually contribute if we want to be decent. Frans got ALOT of work to do. But he’s a grinder and a great recruiter. I trust him

I thought we were done for good in November 2023. Got to put things into perspective. But Kent said not once, but twice that we are committed to being a top 25 football program. You have to have the resources though to be that.

Send him a few million of your own money if you want him to do a better job shoring up this roster from getting picked over. Until then, the factory schools will shop as they please. Get use to being a minor league program for the Big Ten and SEC schools.

Agreed. It is unfortunate that some very high profile individuals, locally or on a list, are planning to transfer. But, in the end I think it will all work out. You have to expect there would be a shakeup, this is year 2. Football is the massive shakeup of late, it isn't like the 80-90-early 2000's like in basketball where a head coach has been stable for 20+ years. We are going through them every 8ish here for football, and every time a coach changes the decision isn't a 8 year decision it is a 2-3 year decision. Polarization of all sports is insane imo for college as the athletes cycle every 4-5, but the transfer portal made it worse imo. And even basketball is on that same block. I actually applaud SU for staying some course on this.

Nah we don’t have much talent to spend on internally, there is better talent in the portal. Makes little sense to keep what you have when you have so little.

Watson’s a likely NFL pick and we have other pro prospects on both sides of the ball. In my opinion, talent’s all around. The issue is experience. Fran wants to build around HS players. That strategy relies on retaining upperclassmen/vets.

6 or 7 wins without Kyle would be a great season. Since then SU has lost Peña, J Reed, Wohlabaugh, Marcellus Barnes, and Watson.
Peña’s concern about Collins doesn’t give me a warm fuzzy feeling.
I am not impressed with the portal additions.
That being said I think three or four additions would push me back towards 6 wins. Have to find a center, linebacker and a corner. Defensive tackle maybe too.
