Fab looked like a completely different person out there. Solid performance. If Fab continues to play like this and everyone does their role, executes the zone, and plays like a cohesive unit do we need Kris to be a go to guy or just a really good small forward who scores points and rebounds well and helps lead the team? I know for the tournament having that guy (melo, walker) is invaluable but if we play to our ability as a team theres not a team I don't think we can beat besides NC and Kentucky but it's too early to worry about that.

If he Hits the 15 footer with consistency all year and remains mobile hes gone next year, but thats best case scenario for him.

Fab Melo had a pretty nice game against CS-LA.

In related news, I schooled my three-year-old cousin on a Fisher Price hoop over the summer.

I don't think we def need a go to guy ... just would like to see Fab get ball on block from our guards a few more times a game

Melo looks gone. Not to look too far ahead, but hopefully that helps us with Noel.

Can't believe how above the rim Melo is playing. We haven't had this sort of 5 since Etan.

It's a good question. I personally don't want to see Kris have to do too much out there. I hope the offense runs through Fab. At the very beginning it seemed like there was a plan to get the ball down to him early in the possession.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Melo looks much improved, but he still has a long way to go before he's the dominant force on the team.

It looks like it's starting to click physically for Melo, I'm just hoping it starts to click mentally. I think he still has a ways to go there.

At least we're starting to see his true potential come together. He was always a semi-project with tremendous upside.

The one-two punch of Melo and Kieta put us in very good shape down low. Those two might average 8 blocks (combined) per game.

There is one part of Fab's game that is not going to change no matter what...He will remain 7'0" throughout the season. Certainly he will face better and bigger competition but his conditioning and athleticism combined with his size indicate a great year is ahead, even if he never makes another 15ft jump shot. Go to guy? Not yet, we'll see. He's got to be force fed on the block in order to become a go to guy. Hopefully at least one of our guards will be willing to do that.

Melo looked better than anyone else last night, but he also played against midgets. I hope he can do well against beasts.

I agree. If the offense runs an "inside - out" approach we should be OK. Fab appears to be able to score in the paint and has the ability to be an effective passer. Our perimeter guys better find their stroke to make teams pay if they collapse.

Sorry to be a bit of a downer here ... it was an exhibition game against CS-LA with the tallest man being 6'9" and the primary Center looking a bit like a mountain man. Before we award Fab POY let's wait until we get into OOC and conference play. He did look good last night and that was pleasing ... alot of movement and definitely better conditioning and even a show of putting away a 15'er. But lets not put him in the NBA yet ... just keep our fingers crossed.
