The 2017 season will have a lot to live up to. The just-completed season featured no shortage of drama and compelling story lines. At least a dozen teams could have won the national title; NCAA First Round games were played in Colorado and Wisconsin and Indiana, with Ohio hosting two Quarterfinals; and, as one coach noted, in the end the teams enjoying success featured a near-perfect mix of newbloods and blue bloods. The season was impossible to predict and a ton of fun to watch.

Here’s a way-too-early look at 2017 rankings. Here’s also hoping that the upcoming season at least comes close to matching its predecessor for drama and fun. Note: Class years are for next season.

11. Syracuse (12-5, lost in NCAA Quarterfinals)
What happened to the Orange defense? Once as feared as any unit in the game, the most recent defenses have appeared a step slow especially in May. In the past two Quarterfinals, Johns Hopkins and Maryland generated good shots seemingly at will. On offense, redshirt senior Sergio Salcido (29G,24A) was a revelation as a midfielder who got defenses moving and found open teammates. One thing is certain: The Orange remain as loose and confident in crunch time as any team out there. For better or worse.
