2016 Top 20 Young Gun Junior Rankings

First Team:
McKenzie Harris
School:
Brighton High School (Rochester, N.Y.)
Class: Senior
College: Syracuse
One of the most naturally talented playmakers in the class – a player who can bring a new level of excitement to the game. An early decision to Syracuse, the U-19 Iroquois Nationals captain has the ability to wow with her stick skills and is a wildly creative shooter.

Hannah Van Middelem
School:
Mount Sinai (Mount Sinai, N.Y.)
Year: Senior
College: Syracuse
Middelem returns after guiding the Mustangs to their second consecutive New York State Class C title and along the way earned praised as one of the top goalies in the nation as a junior. She is expected to lead a senior-heavy Mount Sinai group looking to win its third state championship in three years.

Second Team:
Molly Carter
School:
Lynbrook Senior (Lynbrook, N.Y.)
Year: Senior
College: Syracuse
Carter was considered an under-the-radar player, but not after posting 86 goals and 40 assists to lead all of Nassau County in points last season. A leader for her team, she helped Lynbrook to a 12-4 record last season and is expected to be a matchup challenge again this season.

Samantha Swart
School:
Archbishop John Carroll (Radnor, Pa.)
Class: Senior
College: Syracuse
Swart has exceptional quickness between the lines and has the ability to push transition. She’s skilled at getting the ball off the ground and up the field. The standout athlete is also decorated and regarded field hockey player.

Sarah Cooper
School:
Notre Dame Prep (Towson, Md.)
Year: Junior
College: Syracuse
A strong, reliable defender, Cooper brings good range and speed to the defensive end of the field. She’s able to be aggressive and press out on the perimeter, and she has the ability to push transition. She’s another one of the players helping make Notre Dame Prep a team to watch in the IAAM “A” Conference.

Third Team:
Meghan Tyrell
School: Mount Sinai, N.Y.
Class: Junior
College: Syracuse

Allyson Trice
School: West Genesee (Camillus, N.Y.)
Class: Senior
College: Syracuse

Samantha Swart, M, Syracuse
She’s everything you’d want from an offensive-minded player — fast bombing to the crease from the circle after her team wins a draw, quick with the ball in her stick operating from X and a confident, hard-nosed dodger going to the net. She’s willing to take a knock and get right back up.

Molly Carter, A, Syracuse
Sneaky. Carter posted two goals and three assists — all of which came in the first half. She comes across as a prototypical Syracuse attacker: good stick skills, creative with the ball, an excellent shooter with great vision passing and a comfort level with taking risks.

Megan Carney, John Paul II High School (Texas), Attack
UA Team: Southwest Highlight | Grad Year: 2018 | Commitment: Syracuse
A dynamic attacker, Carney is a combination of speed, quickness, and athleticism. She works well in tights spaces and is comfortable with both hands. Her crafty and smooth style of play will fit in perfectly at Syracuse.

Under Armour Underclass Tournament: Class of 2020/21 Standouts

Caitlyn Wurzburger, American Heritage Delray Beach (Fl.), Attack
UA Team: South Command | Grad Year: 2020 | Commitment: Syracuse
One of the best attackers in her age group, Wurzburger plays with a swagger that cannot be taught. Her stick skills allow her to blow past defenders and assist her teammates with precision. The future ‘Cuse attacker has a promising future.

*Preview is written by Cuse's Kathy Rudkin as well, including the one OrangeXtreme posted above.

‘Cuse Connection
Megan Carney (John Paul II, Texas)
and Lexi LeDoyen (Bishop Ireton, Va.) turned heads the minute they stepped foot on the field. The pair of lefty attack standouts possess flashy stick work, explosive footwork and the same knack for finding the back of the net that has landed Syracuse attacker after attacker on the IWLCA’s first-team All-America lineup and in the Tewaaraton discussion. Classmates Braelie Kempney (Carthage, N.Y.) and Alex Marino (Bryn Mawr, Md.) add depth alongside Carney and LeDoyen on the attack, while Jalyn Jimerson (Lake Shore Central, N.Y.) ran the midfield and Sarah Cooper (Notre Dame Prep, Md.) possesses the size, speed, game sense and athleticism to be one of the top collegiate defenders in the country when she arrives in Upstate New York.

Molly Carter, Lynbrook (N.Y.), Attack, Sr.
The quarterbacking attacker continued to put up big numbers as a senior, leading the way for Lynbrook (15-3) with 109 goals and 63 assists. Carter will play for Syracuse next year.

Sarah Cooper, Notre Dame Prep (Md.), Defense, Jr.
A tall, fast and aggressive defender, Cooper’s emergence as one of the top defenders in the high school game followed suit with Notre Dame Prep’s surge to the top this spring. The Syracuse commit will return for one final season before heading up to Upstate New York.

Samantha Swart, Archbishop Carroll (Pa.), Attack/ Midfield, Sr.
Swart led Carroll’s state championship charge in 2017, with 97 goals and 32 assists to her name. One of the top field hockey and lacrosse recruits in the nation, Swart is headed to Syracuse where she will join the lacrosse team this fall.

Hannah Van Middelem, Mt. Sinai (N.Y.), Goalie, Sr.
The Syracuse bound star leaves Mt. Sinai a four-time state champion (yes – she made the team and won a title as an eighth grader), as she played last line of defense for a Mustang unit that held its opponents to just 3.6 goals per game this spring.

Caitlyn Wurzburger, American-Heritage Delray (Fla.), Attack, Fr.
Widely considered the top freshman in the high school game, the Florida wunderkind posted 216 points this year on 101 goals and 115 assists en route to a 19-1 run. Wurzburger is committed to Syracuse.
