or will they be voted #1 if circumstances break right?

I know its early to assume that they'll go undefeated and they do have to get through that scheduling gauntlet at the end of the season ...

@ SE Missouri State
@ Tennessee State
@ Tennessee Tech

all in a period of 10 days, but if miracle of miracles occurs would the voters raise them to #1.

Obviously some teams in front of them need to lose between now and the end of the year and Murray State probably needs to be either one or two spots behind them when they lose to pass them (e.g. if SU loses its only game of the year tonight, I don't see SU dropping 10 spots or Murray State leap frogging past us no matter how bad the loss.) But, its not unreasonable to think that everyone in front of them has at least one or two losses on their schedule between now and the end and SU's most dangerous stretch is right at the end of the season - so I could see them continuing to make steady progress up the rankings and possibly having us get our loss with them right behind us in the poll if voters continued to elevate them past teams in front of them that lose. I am actually a bit surprised, looking at their schedule, that they've been elevated as high as 10 & 12 in the polls.

Would voters elevate Murray State or keep them at 4 or 5 and allow others to leapfrog back over them to replace teams ahead of them that might lose??

I think there is, and they may have reached it. I would be surprised if they went higher than 7 or 8. I view it much like college football. If you're in a mid-major conference and don't have to play any high-quality teams, you can only go so far. Fortunately for them, college hoops gives everyone a chance at greatness in the end. :)

Why are people here suddenly obsessing over Murray State? We now have multiple threads about them, on a Monday when we have Pitt in the Dome, no less.

Seriously, this is the best season in their history. Let them enjoy it. What they do has zero impact on us and they aren't likely to be in this position again anytime soon.

Agree with this but would add, If all of the other teams currently ranked higher than them lost 3-4 games, the voters may vote them #1 provided they were still undefeated.

I don't want to see them. This is the type of mid major team that always pops our bubble. I'd rather play UK or UNC. I'm hoping we don't see any mid majors after the 1st round.

Murray state has won some NCAA tournament games. Made a sweet 16. If things break right for them who cares if they are number one? We have March to sort things out. They wont reach number one though, Cuz we ain't giving it up.
