It is a Start

Been there, done that.

Ditto! My first bowl game when I was a kid was the Cherry Bowl. Brutal drive back to Syracuse, in a blizzard on the QEW.

Watching that game on tv is my first SU football memory. I go back a few more years for basketball. Since my that's my first season I remember, I guess you could call me a fair weather football fan. But you can't call any of us fair weather fans anymore!

My brothers and I went on that road trip from hell too. Empty Silver Dome. We played lousy against the Terps. Very ugly indeed.

SYRACUSE ROUTS RUTGERS AND GOES TO CHERRY BOWL

1985 Cherry Bowl - Wikipedia

I remember being excited because we were in a bowl and it was a road trip with my dad. I knew that it was a lousy game being in Detroit, but it was still exciting at the time. Silverdome was COMPLETELY empty. What I remember most about the game, in addition to us getting trounced, was that one of the phone companies offered a free long distance call promotion during halftime, so we were able to call home for free from the lobby.

Good times.

I attended that game also. And the drive back was, shall we say, challenging. I think Tim Green was injured for that game which didn't help SU's chances.

I sat next to a guy whose son had brought him. He was a Michigan fan and very disdainful of eastern football. "This isn't really football; the big 10 is football."

I thought about that guy while McNabb and company were thumping the wolverines.

I'm disappointed that Cuse/Maryland in the 85 Cherry Bowl didn't draw the same type of Silverdome crowd as Hogan/Andre.
