Jim Phillips: ACC to meet about changing men's hoops narrative

Should consider going back to 18 conference games since non-conference results are big factor with the committee.

What the closed door direction will be...

"Get ur NIL bags full and rife and go out there and reel in the players."

The next big conference realignment will be when conferences look to add NIL spenders and jettison light bag programs.

Also, Phillip's public face on on too much reliance on NET... Ok, but the committee's real problem in selecting teams is school administrators who aren't qualified to make team selection decisions, but are empowered every year to do so.

Of the P6, only the B12 and SEC play 18 games, and the B12 did so out of necessity.

So kind of hide?

We have NOT been pulling our weight.
No. But no one else has either. It will get better. It doesn’t help in the immediate that the two Tobacco Road flagships just lost all time great coaches. And then us.

It will turn around but the league probably has a couple meh years left still

He’s not wrong about the NET.
Maybe not in overarching sense but specifically regarding league this year, yes, yes he is. Many leagues play 20 games. Didn’t hurt the big East.

ACC was a bad league this year it happens. Just get better, the rest takes care of itself.

Exactly. And the non conference/early season games being given too much weight. The NET is based largely on how teams play in a handful of non conference games. Or I think they need to go back to putting more weight on how teams are playing later in the season.

Well when the entire conference lays an egg during the preseason and the bad teams are bad while the top 60% of the league just takes turns beating each other, net or no net, it was an awful conference by any metric.

What a dumb meeting and it makes the ACC look pathetic.
The B1G had a similar meeting a few years ago and the B1G encouraged their members to schedule tougher & avoid scheduling too many teams with likely bad NET rankings.

The ACC can complain about using relying on the NET too much but they need to embrace it too.

The net it’s the same for everyone. doesn’t discriminate, it’s straight math. Schedule good and win.

That’s why this rant by commish is BS . The committee uses the net only as a component. If it was strictly about net a team like uconn was a 2 seed. Not a 4 Texas a+m was a 5 not a 7.

It just strikes as a losers lament.
