we have an award winning kicker, but it seems like every game that is still in doubt where we need a positive kick made its missed and then we start chasing pts.. it would have been 13-6 with the make, add that crazy double/triple pass blown play that worked and suddenly it becomes 21-3..

The terrible pass right to Cisco that he dropped didn’t help either.

It’s so rare for us to have preseason All Americans. If those guys aren’t firing on all cylinders...

if he kicks at the same level as last yr 2-3 of these games play out a bit differently at least early on.

Let’s be honest Smtyz hasn’t been as good

Nope.

Silver lining is that he can't leave for the NFL. Last year he was that good I'm sure he considered it.

He now has an uphill battle especially with Hof getting the distance kicks.

The misses have been pretty close. No long term concerns that he starts sucking and isn't just above average to good.

But something was up that first attempt vs Liberty (that he hit) when he took 50% off his kick for placement or whatever. I knew that was a bad sign.

All his misses have come at big times when we needed the 3 to stay in the game and were playing terribly.

I dont think he has an nfl leg though. he will get his shot and need to be real solid, but the ball doesnt really pop thru, he seems to chip everything. great last yr, avg this yr.. lucky for us though because avg last yr and we probably lost 2-3 more games and great this yr probably doesn't add up to any more wins.

Hasn't he hit a couple of 50+ yarders? Hes what 20 yrs. old? Think he could get stronger?

his range is just above 50 , but he tends to over hit the longer ones.. Im sure he can add a bit more distance the next 2 yrs.

kickers are the least of our worries. we got 2 of the best in the country.

I made this comment in the game thread but our punting hasn't been great this year either. Hasn't been bad but not elite.

I thought they needed to go for it on that 4th and 6. I didn't think he would make it and sadly was confirmed.

We lose Hof next year. Don't know if we have his successor on roster. Is Nolan Cooney a punter?

hofrichter is averaging nearly 3 yards more per punt than he did last year.

I don't think the stats exist but he hasn't been pinning them inside the 10 like he has before.

We have a guy that hits 50 yard FG’s and we’re saying he doesn’t belong in the NFL, chips the ball, and doesn’t have enough leg power. Maybe one of the craziest threads I’ve ever read on this board.
how many college kids cant kick it 50 yds? his range isnt the huge issue, its how many he hits solid.. if you are not hitting the made ones solid then you start to have accuracy issues and thats what we see this yr. His kick sat might have been his best kick of the yr.

The missed fg was huge. As was devitos inability to hit harris on a short 6 yd route. Then fsu got so lucky on that screen. Calamity.

3 games in a row we just dug huge holes and actually were in a spot to get back in the game. Team isnt quitting and sat it could have been real easy mid 1st to quit.. they hung in and then the crazy bad play happened and that was about all they could take.. just that play not happening and the 2nd half is winnable.

Kicking it 50 yards isn't the problem, kicking 50 yards in a game situation is very different. I just watched numerous NFL kickers miss kicks far less than 50 yards. Has he missed some kicks this year, sure. Is he an NFL kicker still, most likely.

Just seems silly to nitpick one of the guys on the team most likely to end up in the NFL. His missed FG would have given us 3 extra points. We were losing 3 - 35 at one point in the game, I doubt having a game score of 6 - 35 really gets us back in the game. He's not the reason we're losing games. Last year he was solid in a 10 win year.

That’s because all of our punts are from our own 10 yard line.
