Lamar Dawson fighting life-threatening disease; enrollment likely delayed

Best of wishes to Lamar. Sending prayers and thoughts for him and his family.

HCSS knew the kid was ill and never waivered in keeping his offer on the table. Looking forward to hearing of his complete recovery and seeing him in an Orange uniform!

Welcome to the Syracuse family. Get well. We hope you see the field. But even if you don't, you will always be part of the family.

Even if he never plays a down he is the toughest kid on the team.

I hope he makes it this fall, but if he doesn't does this clear up a scholly for this year?
If I am correct if he enrolls in Jan. he counts for next year.

If he doesn't make it for August, he won't count against the 85 player limit for the 2014 season.

If he enrolls next January, his scholly can either be counted towards the 25 player allotment for the Class of 2014, or for 2015. Unless the staff is planning on signing more 2014 kids between now and July, he'll probably remain in the Class of 2014.

Can we do one of those online card for the kid? I forget the poster that usually sets those up.

One of the great things about this staff is that they have stuck with him. Many coaches would move on from this kid and wish him the best. Shafer told his mother that his scholly is always on the table and they would be ready to welcome him whenever he got better. That is solid and it shows how good of a person Scott Shafer is.

Less important is it shows what type of program HCSS is running to the area football coaches and recruits. Im glad we are sticking with the kid. Its simply the right thing to do.

Here's the first thing I thought of. Card could say something like

"It may be basketball season, but we are truly rooting for you"

how about the guy who does the cartoons for syracuse.com. I am sure he could whip up a picture with him in it.
