Las Vegas

Just got back from checking out Circa... my goodness that is amazing. I didn’t go up to stadium swim, but if it’s anything like the book, it’s gonna be epic
Changes Fremont

Sonnary got sick of being cold lol. We moved her down here in October. I've been going back and forth. Plan is to spend my winters in NV, summers in AK. If a job pops up here in NV that's too good to pass up, I might jump on it and hang down here full time. My program in Alaska only has 3 years left before it ends anyway. Tricky times for the ol cusetroop. I never thought I'd leave Alaska
Sweet lord that is quite a change...

Yeaaa man, it's been a wild 6 months or so. I never thought I'd leave Alaska, she's wanted to leave for years. A while back, we agreed that we'd leave state once my program ended (10 year grant, 3 years left). When we found out that her daughter who is in nursing school in NV was pregnant, I knew I didn't have a choice lol. Can't keep ladytroop from grandbaby. Original plan was for them to be here, I'd stay in Alaska and just visit each month, but it hasn't really worked out like that. I've spent like 3 weeks in AK since October. Sold the house up there, and I was going to live in my vintage camper van for the summer, but again, plans change and I think I might just spend a few weeks up there in May, and drive the camper here. We'll see lol.

Makes it a ton easier to get to games tho. You folks are going to see a lot more of troop and his fam!

Dam man! Life comes at you fast, haha. Oh well new beginnings. I thought I would've been back up to AK by now. We're headed to Pyramid lake first week of April. No time for Vegas on that trip, but I'll be out in Vegas soon enough. We're definitely grabbing beers. Also I'm sure you'll be road tripping that camper around some of the wonders of the lower 48, like Utah and CO soon enough.

Hell yea man, hit me up! And we’ll for sure be up that way with the ol camper!

Las Vegas!! Ahh probably my favorite place in the world. My favorite time ever on any vacation ever was doing March madness year after year especially when the Cuse is in it doing well, nothing better than routing the Cuse on in that environment.

So love Vegas For Vegas itself of course, but as well as for the plethora of things to do in around the area. Grand Canyon as they mention not too far away, Zion, Hoover dam, all great things to do if you have a lot of time, each one will require a full day or more. I will mention something later close by just as cool but nobody seems to know about that is not a full day deal.

My parents retired and lived out there for 25 years so I’ve been out there at least 60 times. We saw it go from a city of 450,000 to whatever the millions it is now.

Done everything, seeing everything, including virtually every show (well as of at least five years ago, shows don’t really change all that much or at least didn’t).

For somebody your age, as if I remember correctly you’re in your 20s, and if you have never been there than there is some great advice in this thread about where to stay on the strip. Sounds to me like everybody else in this thread has that covered about things to do in the strip and places to stay, all good advice. That said it is an experience that is wild and crazy and very very very very active.

It will not be an R n R trip, and you will likely feel you need a vacation from your vacation. But that can be cool especially at your age. Half of the fun is just walking up and down the strip and visiting each themed hotel, but I will caution you that you will look down the strip and think you can walk the entire thing, I would not as it is a lot longer and further than it looks.

After about our fifth time staying down on the strip we had had enough and would never stay there again, which remains true to this day.

So a bunch of years back they built what I consider to be the nicest, the best overall hotel (the four star red rock canyon resort spa and hotel), this by where my folks lived in what is known as the lakes/Summerlin, it is luxurious, truly an amazing place to stay.

The ambience of this place, the beauty, has all the accoutrements one would want in hotel so it is second to none, I think it is and remains the best in all of Las Vegas when considered in it’s totality with location, activities, looks, what it has to offer, etc.

It’s about 10 to 15 minutes off the strip on Charleston Boulevard way up in toward the natural rock canyon called red rock canyon. I think I know you well enough from the off-topic board that you are going to need a break for a day, the other excursions (Grand Canyon, Hoover, etc.) are too far away and take too much time unless you have a lot of time on a long trip.

Rent a car for a day or so and travel and drive through this natural rock canyon that is a miniature Grand Canyon and its scope and beauty. You will not believe it is in Las Vegas. Bring some takeout and have lunch and one of the many picnic areas up there, if you want to hike there’s 30 hiking trails from easy to moderate to severe that we’ve done and recommend all of them. Even if you don’t want to hike there is a 10 mile driving or biking trail around it that you stop along the way to marvel at the beauty of it all and take short walks at those locations.

It is the perfect break from the craziness of the strip and Las Vegas in general, it’s a great antidote, I love that hotel because it has everything Vegas has to offer at one location but without all the craziness, and it’s only 10 minutes from the strip if you want to get down there to see shows, comedians, etc.

Another gem that you can do as an escape from the strip is a mountain a 30-45 minutes away called mount Charleston. Right up until may it could be 90 to 95° on the strip and up on top of this mountain they were skiing, so there’s that to do too.

The vista on this drive up and back is incredible and striking how you can go from the desert landscape to an upstate New York look at the top with all the trees. At the very top is a great bar and restaurant that overlooks the valley you can take in while you guys enjoy your hot toddies.

A worthwhile side trip that’s easy and only requires half a day. Go enjoy and take it all in. Again, everyone NEEDS to experience the strip and all it has to offer, but remember everything else above for when you’ve had your fill. Enjoy!

My brother and I stayed at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa a few years ago. It is right next to the minor league baseball park and the Golden Knights practice facility. Shuttle will take you to and from the strip. Recommend RR.

Looking to go to Vegas in the Fall once all of this is starting to get better. Any tips on hotels? We are looking for a suite preferably and we will be gambling a lot so that is also important. Thanks for any advice in advance!

I'm going in a couple weeks and again in June.

The two hotels I usually stay at are Delano and Aria Sky Suites.

Delano is an all suite hotel at Mandalay Bay. Great pool and . Delano has a separate pool but you can also use the Mandalay pool The casino has no energy. It's huge but very spread out so it just has a sad vibe to it. I hate playing there, but it's connected to Luxor, which is a little trashy and fun. So I usually walk over there.

Delano is a great hotel, but I don't really recommend it for a first time trip because it's away from the action; but the rooms are great and all suites and fairly affordable. They also have a good mix of high end restaurants and cheap options with the mall between Mandalay and Luxor.

Aria Sky Suites - also all suite hotel. Comes with limo transport from the airport. Separate check in area and private lounge. The Sky pool is awesome. It's a really cool experience and Aria is a modern property with a great casino. Also connected to Park MGM (Formerly Monte Carlo). So you have a lot of food options and just a bit of a higher end feeling.

In June I have a suite at Cosmopolitan. Cosmo is awesome. Great vibe to the casino, interesting restaurant lineup. I don't love the pools and the clientele is a bit young for me, but the rooms are amazing and the terrace overlooking the fountains is worth it to me.

Wynn/Encore and Venetian/Palazzo - I've only stayed at Encore, but those are worth looking into. Their standard rooms are basically suites.

I haven't stayed at a Caesars property in years. Cromwell, Caesars and Linq are all fun to play in and have a good vibe to them.

Vegas is awesome. It's my go to vacation and I'm so excited to get back. You'll love it.

I appreciate it! We were looking at the bellagio currently. I think a tower suite strip view was 1000 dollars for 4 days that we really liked. We want the vibe to be like a high roller high action trip cause that’s what we want to experience really. I’ll take any advice on the best places to stay and gamble/bet at are though!

For the VIP experience, the limo comes with Sky Suites, but MGM hotels offer a VIP welcome experience for like $150. You get the limo and you're basically checked in when you arrive. So I imagine that's something you could get at Bellagio and definitely would recommend it. There's nothing cooler than having being one of the people getting picked up by the hotel limo.

And check out the one bedroom wrap around terrace fountain view at Cosmo. You're young so Bellagio might not be exactly for you. I've never styaed there, though I love it. Every recent trip I've always spent my last night dining there. For some reason I love the Petrossian Bar in their lobby. Start there with a few drinks and then dinner at Picasso, Le Cirque, Prime or Michael Mina.

I thought that could go a number of ways after the word "initiated."
I get where her head's at, we have little kids, we don't gamble or drink, we're pretty thrifty on most things. For us Vegas is really about the shows and food. Which is definitely enough to have a great time, just not something that's been of much interest to her so far.

I was 9 my first trip to Vegas and absolutely loved it. Even in the 80s everything was such a spectacle. But I love Vegas in part because it's whatever you want it to be. When I go solo, I go to relax. So I get the suites and lounge at the pool after morning blackjack. Then relax and then go to a great dinner. I don't gamble a ton of money, though I enjoy playing for hours, so I don't get stressed over losses and stay within my means.

Growing up going to Atlantic City a lot, my parents used to park me in the game room at Showboat with a bucket of quarters for hours with my mom coming up for air every once in a while to give me a new bucket of quarters. Casinos are great places for kids (I mean that unironically).

Have you considered staying at Vdara? Best of both worlds - an MGM non-casino hotel so it's quiet without that party atmosphere, but you're close to the shows and food.

I'll have to check Vdara out.

Put 10k on DOGE when you're there.
