This from an AP article yesterday about the AAC, post-UConn:

". . the AAC could scrap its divisions, continue to play eight conference games and match the top two teams in the standings in its football championship game."

Is this correct, or is the author misinformed?

It’s what the Big Twelve (err 10) does.

Didn't the Big XII get a specific waiver? I don't think the rule re: divisions was changed after the B1G vetoed the ACC proposal.

That's silly. If there are no divisions just award the trophy to the team that finished in first place. Why should the second place team get a chance to play for a league title in a no division format? Ohhh, $$$.

Actually, the rules were changed such that a division-less league can hold a championship game if it plays a round-robin schedule. So... unless the AAC plays a 10-game conference schedule they can’t hold a championship game unless they get prior approval.

It would be simpler just to ratify the ACC proposal, and let each league decide on its own how to determine its champion.

ACC 3-5-5 scheduling would give the other conferences a fit.

3-5-5 may get another chance because it's finally sinking into the dense "brains" of the B1G and SEC leaderships that the ACC isn't going to implode, so they might as well pass the change. As much as we in the ACC talk about how good it is as a concept the B1G and SEC would benefit from it more than we would. Look at Bama. They would take Auburn, Tennessee, and possibly LSU as their permanent teams and would only have to play only one of the Mississippi teams each year; aTm would would cycle on and off the schedule, probably alternating with Arkansas; and they'd get to play the eastern teams more frequently. You can make the same scenario for Meeshigan and thatOSU in the B1G.
