Cut the pointless pregame and halftime show and run commercials instead and get a bunch of them out of the way right then and there. Can do 15 minutes of commercials at halftime, and then run fewer of them during the game!Networks get paid when they air commercials for sponsors.
Conferences get paid by the networks.
Schools (athletic departments) get paid by the conferences
Athletic departments pay coaches (in all sports) and develop athletic department resources with this money.
If the cost per 30 second commercial is capped out, yet the networks need to generate more income, they will air more commercials.

The point is to force people to watch them. An expected 15 minute block of commercials isn’t going to hold many eyeballs. That’s why sports command such a premium now - people watch live.Cut the pointless pregame and halftime show and run commercials instead and get a bunch of them out of the way right then and there. I hate that. I don't watch soccer, but I've seen it with basketball games. I would rather just have a commercial, especially with the beauty of DVR to just fast forward through them.Or do like soccer does - air commercials on a box around the game.
It’s just as god awful to be in the dome and have to sit on those hard seats for TWO MINUTES FORTY SECONDS and then try to remember where the game was going before the friggin commercial. It’s painful how disruptive the game is to watch live with the TV timeouts. If they did a split screen with commercials and the live game action, a game would have to be 30-45 minutes shorter. You wonder if that would help attendance some. Major League Baseball is going to a pitch clock next year to address the issue of games being too long.
Give it a little more time and we will have players doing live commercials on the field between plays….
Sounds like we need go bring in Jackie Moon. He can choreograph commercials.Give it a little more time and we will have players doing live commercials on the field between plays….
I'm in Florida, and I can't stomach them.I’ll be glad when the political ads are done. Blech.
This is the devil you have to deal with if you want SU and the ACC to get Millions from TV. The more money they pay the more commercials and the like, the cost of doing business.
The goal wouldn't be to eliminate commercials all together, just reduce them and introduce some limited on screen promotions to balance the time element to take a game from close to 4 hours to closer to a legit 3 hours.I hate that. The only reason we want more is because everyone else in Big 12 and SEC is rolling money, I'd still like to see college football take an appropriate role in college athletics and not be all about the dollar bill at all costs, including never ending, and too much in game commercial time making games 4+ hours long. Maybe a pipe dream but I can hope and express that frustration. This is the devil you have to deal with if you want SU and the ACC to get Millions from TV.
