Mellen and Forkin out for season (Desko presser)

Have to be honest, surprised but not shocked. It was clear he had some sort of setback when Dekso was talking about him being back no problem by the first game and then all of the sudden the return date got murky and then it was "no idea" when he will be back. Unfortunate but when your dealing with shoulder injuries these kinds of setbacks are common. The good news is that he does have a redshirt year available so no problem there and he will basically have almost a year to have the procedure and recover for next winters opening camp (assuming he's definitely out for fall ball).

The other silver lining is that the team has been playing without him since the fall so it's not like he got hurt playing vs Siena and we have to change everything up and tinker with new lineups.

Obviously this is a pretty big loss no way to sugar coat it. Luckily SU does have some really good depth at long pole. However, with Kennedy and Mellen both out for the season we can't afford another guy to go down. Good news is that the staff is high on Dipetro so we have 4 solid guys for the 3 close defensemen and were stocked at LSM. One thing I think this does do is end the idea of moving Firman back to LSM for a few select matchups as he is now our defacto #1 defender. This week will be the first test as Mellen previously matched up with Fields extremely well.

Less then stellar news today. Crease rat nailed it when he said earlier this week Forkin looked to be in rough shape. Had high hopes for him this year after all the work he did to get back into Syracuse.

Forkin already has taken a red-shirt year so he will need to apply for a medical redshirt, not sure if he will get it.

Unless there was a documented injury that was never made public, I'm not sure how Forkin or Thorpe would have a case for a 6th year. Stranger things have happened so here's hoping for the best.

Hey we can't give Forkin his own separate thread? ;)

Based solely upon social media, O'Brien & Grass were pretty close. I wonder if O'Brien heads to Jacksonville to reunite w asst coach Casey Powell who was the one who originally notified Desko about him.

Excellent point about O'Brien. Interesting that he left so early into his career at Syracuse.

Ahem, that's Mr. Glass to you, sir.
