Maybe if the staff will actually try to use all the scholarships available to them
I'm so glad they decided to not use all of them this year
Is it really the quantity? I think it's more about the quality. We have role players but no stars to establish their roles.

We’ve been told for, what, 5 years now how much the scholarship restrictions hurt us. Either quantity matters or it doesnt.

personally, I’ve always felt that depth matters, having a plan b matters, having other possible starting lineups matter.

like the 2003 team showed. It’s great to have Melo...and ultimately he’s the reason we won...but there’s a game you are going to need McNeil to block shots on the press because the zone isn’t working, a game where you need Pace and Billy to create easy layups because outside shots aren’t falling, a game where you feed Hak because the guy on him can’t guard him.

I don’t see it at all on this years team. It’s all about “makin shots”, which we will sometimes, and those games we will win. We maybe would have last night if Cole made his shots. But you can’t win consistently like that and JB should know that.

I understand what you're saying about having different guys to plug into different situations, but what you just mentioned was a ton of quality. We have some guys that could be a Pace or Duany for us but we don't have any Melos or Haks. We're asking Pace to be Melo. Using more scholarships on players that aren't any better than the ones we have doesn't make us any better.

I agree we need ro have depth and having open scholarships doesn't make sense, but the quality of recruit needs to improve if we're going to be better, not just the quantity.

Agreed...I hear that. I’m not suggesting if we had 3 more symir level players that we’d be good either.

True, the quality has declined but look at it this way. Would you rather have 13 P5 level players or 10?
If you have them maybe you can develop them? You have options to pull a starter whos not performing, like Kadary at Hall and soon to be Quincy at Oregon.
They are not using 23% of their scholarships. If a College Football Coach decided to not use 23% of his scholarships that would equate to 85 down to 66, what type of team are you going to have with that many fewer players? One that would look as bad as this and would be committing coaching suicide

The difference between 10 and 13 doesn't matter when you play 7 or maybe 8. Players 11-13 would be worse than what we have, so it doesn't matter. Name the last player we had that sat on the bench for 2-3 years that stuck around and ended up being significant for us. We don't develop those guys.

As I said, I don't understand why they don't use all of the scholarships. However, adding 3 more of what we already have does nothing to make us better. Nothing.

There is plenty of development recently. Edwards and Braswell both took a few years to develop, and Guerrier wasn't too good his freshmen year, but a potential lottery pick after his sophmore. Girard had to play as a fresh, and buddy was a true fresh. Battle and Dolezaj and Hughes were pretty much ready when they got here, and got much better over time. Sid got much better as a jr. Let's see where Benny is in a few months.

If we don't can Wildhack its going to be 2 more bad years under JB and then 3 under whatever miserable hire he picks.

It might be a moot point anyway and you have to wait for the guy that follows the guy who followed the guy until we are good again.

Jimmy Jr is our second best player (Buddy the first) that is a bad thing the roster just isn't good. Edwards can move but his bobbles and not grabbing rebounds always lead to big points/turnovers. JG3 would be fine as a 6th man and everyone but the coach can see that but as PG next to Buddy the backcourt stinks getting the offense in motion and defending. Swider and Benny huge disappointments. Just a bad team and the recruits look to be projects not sure we see immediate help next year. And when we miss on recruits we miss see Jalen Carey who can't get on the floor for URI.
It’s Wildhack’s fault?

I suppose we all can suffer and go numb from what may be a losing season… but we need to have hope that fortunes will rebound.

I don’t see any hope on the horizon esp after the latest take on our recruits. I can push through 1 lost season but not consecutive lost years.

What "latest take"?

This class reminds me a lot of 2002; lots of pretty good players who fit together, have the right measurables, fit our style, etc. Kids playing together at IMG is just like playing at Oak Hill in the old days. I think we could be really good next year.

I feel ur pain man, boehiem needs to learn or be told! Coaching is a perishable skill.
I don't want a Bowden FSU situation here.
I know that's football but most will understand my point

This is unfortunately the situation that we are in and will be in. It’s the sad truth. There is no hope here or with the football program at the moment.
