I thought I would report what I know about Slippery Rock in this post.

I first became aware of Slippery Rock as I suspect most of us did. At the Championship outlet store in Airport Plaza on Route 11 in North Syracuse in the mid to late 1970s.

That place mostly sold misprints and overstocks and they seemed to always have a lot of Slippery Rock merchandise. I once bought a grey Slippery Rock sweatshirt there for pennies on the dollar. It was well made and lasted for years. The Slippery Rock logo and name were printed in green and I suspect we are going to see green uniforms from these people on Wednesday.

I went to the Syracuse Pitt game on Thursday and when I was driving south down I79, I saw an exit for Clarion. Think it was listed as a stop off I80. Nice. But maybe two exits further south, there was an exit (maybe two) for Slippery Rock. What the hell? I am picturing that we booked Clarion and the Clarion AD was so excited, he or she got on the phone to the Slippery Rock AD to tell them about it. And the SR AD wanted a piece of the action and immediately booked the other exhibition slot. Maybe these stellar higher education institutions are just very tight? Weird coincidence.

The other thing I know about Slippery Rock is that I just looked for a cool famous alum I could use for the prediction thread. And there are none. Slippery Rock has produced no one of note other than C Vivian Stringer, who I guess was a great women's hoops coach but had already been taken in the prediction post and who I couldn't use anyway, given that she preferred to be called C Vivian Stringer.

What could the C have stood for that was so much worse than Vivian? Why not just go with Vivian? Or better yet, CV Stringer? Names are important and you can't screw up your name this badly and not face ramifications for it.

What the hell Slippery Rock. Already taken C Vivian Stringer. Is that all you got? Come on. Do better. Someone from there should have invented a better tractor or plow or a better fracking method.

Anyway, those are my thoughts on Slippery Rock. I bet they will be hungry and play us though. It is a hard scrabble life in the middle of nowhere in western PA.

LOL!!! We used to come down from Oswego to hit up that Champion Factory Outlet. Always great to find nuggets while digging thru the bins. I still have a hoodie I purchased over 45 years ago for either $1.99 or $2.99. The school on it is Davison, not Davidson. Just figured it's a misprint.

Then, as if the day wasn't great enough, we use to stop A&W Root Beer, also on Rt 11. Great burgers and Root Beer.

The “C” stood for Clarion

When I first started to get mail from colleges, as an unworldly, 17 year old who had grown up in Phoenix, NY, two names stood out, and are remembered even to this day: Slippery Rock and Kalamazoo, for obvious reasons

road trip . used to drive down from the river and hit the bong store in PENN CAN mall and Champion outlet back in HS. bought most of our practice gear there. still have my first pipe. and 2 summers ago i did buy a COXSACKIE tee shirt when i was working a job near there.
just sounded fun.

if I could grant you a 1000 likes I would for the Champion outlet shout out. I went to the one at westvale plaza. Pretty much was my wardrobe in HS. Also for practice jerseys in lax and football we always competed for the best unheard of schools. I had an Evansville Aces jersey I wore at lax practice. Also who can forget the screen printed tshirts. Best store ever.
