I like noon games. Probably because when I was a kid most of the games were early afternoon. Got to Manley about 10am and enjoyed a solid TG despite the weather. Lots of tents for cover and the food was excellent as always.
Headed to the JMA around 11 and was surprised at the lack of people as I really thought that HC would help with the crowd. Not sure why it was weak, but I would say weather and the noon kick were the biggest culprits.
Settled into 320 behind a contingent of Hookies who throughout the game kept attempting to make strange animal sounds. Reminded me of a wounded creature that I once happened upon on a hunt in the CO mountains. Unfortunately, unlike that encounter I couldn't put these " creatures" out of their misery.
As to the game itself here are a few thoughts. First and foremost, the game ball needs to go to two individuals. LA who continues to wear the S on his chest and Coach Fran Fing Brown. LA can't say enough about him. He does everything to the best of his ability. And when the game is on the line he turns into superman. As far as Fran his energy and passion carried the team yesterday. He refuses to quit and he refuses to let the other coaches and the team quit. His passion and drive are evident every game and I'm sure every day that he leads this program. He has much to learn as a new coach but what he has accomplished in less than a year is amazing. I don't know of any coach that has stamped an SU program as quickly or thoroughly as Fran has. I for one can't wait to see this program in 3 years as I believe he will have us competing for a playoff spot on a consistent basis.
He elevates everyone around him which is the most important a trait a leader can have. I always give props to JW for having the stones to make this hire and I believe it is going to go down as one of the guttiest greatest hires ever made by an SU AD.
SU is down some key players but when you look at our roster assuming Fran can retain these guys, we are going to be loaded next year. The schedule is beyond brutal so our final record might not be stellar but IF AND IT IS A HUGE IF
We can find a QB we can give everyone on the schedule a battle.
I have two complaints that need to be addressed now if possible if not in the off season.
First, Special teams. I know the guy has a family and I'm sure he is a good person and yes, he has a family like most of us do but he is in charge of the worst special teams' units I have seen in the last decade. So, fix it or get rid of him.
Tackling. Every member of the D should be made to carry around a tackling dummy from now until they graduate I mean WT ! I swear sometimes we are playing flag football.
Anyway back to the positives. The team doesnt quit. Fran is building a great culture. We are building depth. We have won two actually dominated two OT games. The OL is starting to come together.
We are one bad loss away from being in the hunt for the championship game. We just staged the biggest comeback in over a dozen years against a heck of a team.
We won a huge game in November.
We are 6-2 and bowl eligible.
Let's head to Boston and put a beating on another old rival.
Yesterday's win sure does make for a good week, doesn't it?
Go Orange!!
