NBA situation has gotten ugly...

Welp, looks like I'm off to join a Fantasy WNBA league. Who's with me?

The NBA Owners have somehow made it possible for me to feel sorry for athletes making millions of dollars a year. How do you possibly negotiate when the owners position is to take and take and take, give nothing in return and issue ultimatums?

Great news. More college hoops on all of the ESPN stations now. The way it should be.

Uh...because they're the ones risking their money. Unions have no place in professional sports. None.

Owners are trying to protect themselves from handing out insane contracts to the likes of Gilbert Arenas/Rashard Lewis etc. Seriously!? How about some restraint? How about some better scouting? Its not the players or the fans fault that you give out insane contracts. Listen, are the players greedy as well, yes...however, at least they have made MAJOR concessions. The owners are asking for any and everything under the sun and if they dont get it, no season. Sorry, I dont respect that. Owners need to take some responsibility as well. Stern needs to get his smug face off ESPN asap.

"It takes us 30 days for a deal, 30 days from a deal to when we start, the fans can look at the calendar as we can...and, and now theres no union for us to negotiate with" -David Stern. Oh, ok im sorry, so youre not the one who issued the ultimatum?

Its simple, the owners are trying to break the union & this is their chance.
Someone mentioned how the NHL owners did the same thing & in the end, the players crawled back after a year, but the owners now rule that sport.
Basically, the owners want to be protected from themselves, ie; "Stop me before I kill again"! Nobody put a gun to their heads to give KG a $125million contract, one dumb owner chose to do so & the rest followed. Fiscal restraint is not up to the players, never has been.
Now, they want to build restrictions so that the Mark Cubans of the world don't dominate, a la George Steinbrenner & the Yankees! Thats NOT the union's fault, that's on the owners.
Unfortunately, the NHL has yet to recover from their year-long absence & the owners better hope that doesn't happen to the NBA. Americans are fickle & we might get used to not having NBA games on the tube!

This sucks.

And all the owners that took tax payer dollars to build their stadiums? Nice job guys.

Yes, this is the owners simply trying to break the union. I am sad there won't be any hoops for a awhile, but I hope the players take the owners to the cleaners in court.

The TV's in my house got used to not having games on years ago. If ESPN starts showing A10 games instead it will be an upgrade
Here here. Drives me crazy when NBA games are on the ESPN channels instead of college hoops. Drives me even more crazy when they have the 2 hour NBA show on during the week (cant think of what the show is called).

I already am. Haven't cared about the NBA since Jordan retired.

NBA 2-nite? NBA Live? Something like that? Who knows but I also can't stand that. Breaking down the Warriors/Bucks game, on game 31 of 82 in the regular season. Ick. I'd much rather watch college hoops.

Could maybe this thread be reserved for people who actually care about the NBA?

I get it, there are plenty of people on this board who don't care about the league. That's fine. But do they need to come into every NBA thread and proclaim it?

Edit: NBA coast to coast I think is the show

Honestly, I buy a new pair of Jordans every summer. The way this clown is acting I may never buy a never Jordan brand product ever again. Dude made $$$$$$ in the NBA, had a reputation of being stingy and a horrible tipper and now as owner is leading the hardline f-the world stance along with the hockey/basketball owners.

Was still excited to see Melo in his 1st full year as a Knick. Guess that will have to wait when CP3 joins the team in 2012-2013.

Bingo. Good call

Yup- was REALLY looking forward to this.
Melo at the Mecca would've been must-see TV this season!:bang:

To people who say they havent watched the NBA since Jordan years, I get it...but the NBA now is great. The storylines and starpower are unmatched. It will be a serious travesty to not have a season if that should happen.

OK then --I hope both of you have a great chat about overpaid athletes needing more money. Good night.

I agree it would be devastating to lose a season. But at this point, I'm not sure it can be avoided.
