Radio reports that NCAA has reversed their decision about acdemic problem from 2 months ago. completely out of JB's or SU's control. Only way JB could take a hit is if he knew this was a possibility and did not play Xmas and Baye more, but otherwise who would have guessed.

Fab is most at fault obviously but this is the type of BS the NCAA pulls all the time. Not a big fan of Calamari down at UK but I'd be fine if the NCAA disappeared someday as he has suggested.

who on the radio said that?

who on the radio said that?
John Ditulio sports show in Rochester has been reading reports from various sources. One was Dana O'Neil. I think another was from another ESPN source.

From ESPN. NCAA didn't change their decision.

"Melo was declared ineligible by Syracuse, not the NCAA, according to Bob Williams, the NCAA vice president of communications. Citing a source, ESPN.com had reported earlier that the NCAA had revisited Melo's previous suspension. Williams said that the NCAA only deals in an athlete's initial eligibility; once a player is on campus, his eligibility is the responsibility of the school."

Then why did SU appeal to the NCAA earlier?

One of the ESPN radio guys, I think DG said "that this never would have happened if it wasent for the other scadles, and JB talking to much. Said that JB lost his stronghold over SU". Basically saying that JB should have been able to shut this down, get fab a passing grade. Would have been nice

I don't know - but my gut agrees with this

Not to sound sanctimonious, but I kinda hope we never have any situations where JB can influence grades or anything else. Eventually, all of that stuff comes out.

How did Dana O'Neill know before anyone else is what I want to know?

It's kind of hard to blame the NCAA for a student getting crappy grades.

I mean, your right.. But this kind of stuff happens all the time no?

I've seen conflicting statements on the NCAA's involvement. My problem would be if they (or SU for that matter) looked at it in January, and they looked at again now. If nothing changed in the meantime, and they reversed their decision, then that is them not doing their due diligence in January. They decide to open this up now? If they opened it up after the tournament by chance, would that mean they'd rule he should have been ineligible. If they had this in their hands in January, it is on them to resolve it one way or another, not simply taking another look when they feel like it.

Maybe there were changing facts in the case, I don't know.

Did they ever find out what happened with Boatright? What was the reasoning for his second round of ineligibility?

So Cantor and Gross knew this when they shook JB's hand after beating UCONN with Fab

Axe just said SU declared Melo ineligible.

good call SU... screw over the other players by takign this chance away from them... just so you can show "how in control" you are of the university and the sporting program. way to go
