I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)

Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)

Cole Swider +18NP in 40 minutes = +215NP in 586 minutes = +14.7NP/40 for season
Jesse Edwards +17NP in 34 minutes = +242NP in 482 minutes = +20.1NP/40 for season
Buddy Boeheim +13NP in 40 minutes = +242NP in 643 minutes = +15.1NP/40 for season
Joe Girard +7NP in 36 minutes = +203NP in 573 minutes = +14.2NP/40 for season
Jimmy Boeheim +6NP in 29 minutes = +216NP in 582 minutes = +14.8NP/40 for season
Symir Torrence +5NP in 15 minutes = +48NP in 198 minutes = +9.7NP/40 for season
Frank Anselem -3NP in 6 minutes = +37NP in 163 minutes = +9.1NP/40 for season

DNP coach’s decision
Benny Williams 0NP in 0 minutes = +14NP in 211 minutes = +2.7NP/40 for season
John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 17 minutes = +11.8NP/40 for season
Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +4NP in 4 minutes = +40.0NP/40 for season
Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 5 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season

Awards

Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog)
(Points plus assists)
Buddy Boeheim 18 points and 3 assists = 21

Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts)
Cole Swider 17 points – 5mfg – 0mft = +12

Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Jesse Edwards 17 points of 22 = 77.3%

My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Buddy Boeheim and Cole Swider 40 minutes

TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 8 of our 28 misses = 28.6%
They rebounded 5 of their 26 misses = 19.2%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 8 points on 8 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb
They got 6 points on 5 O-Rebs = 1.200 points/O-Reb

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 12 points from 10 takeovers = 1.200 points/takeaway
They had 22 points from 12 takeovers = 1.833 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 20 points in 18 unsettled situations = 1.111 points/situation
They had 28 points in 17 unsettled situations = 1.647 points/situation

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 25 + 12 = 37
They had 29 + 10 = 39

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 17 for 34 on twos, (50.0%), 7 for 17 on threes (41.2%) and 16 for 19 on frees (84.2%)
They were 16 for 31 on twos, (51.6%), 12 for 20 on threes (60.0%) and 8 for 13 on frees (61.5%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FT = Free Throws

We had 32 PIP, 23 POP, 21 OL, 2 TZ, 16 FT
They had 26 PIP, 40 POP, 36 OL, 4 TZ, 8 FT

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 4 FBP in 26 opportunities (15.4%)
They scored 17 FBP in 29 opportunities (58.8%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 43 FCP and 12 SCP
They had 45 FCP and 22 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 67 points and our bench scored 4 points.
Their starters scored 47 points and their bench scored 29 points.

Efficiency

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 14 of our 24 field goals = 58.3%
They assisted 21 of their 28 field goals = 75.0%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 71 points in 64 possessions = 1.109 points/ possession
They scored 76 points in 62 possessions = 1.220 points/possession
It was a 126-possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 71 points in 60 possessions = 1.183 points/ possession
They scored 76 points in 57 possessions = 1.333 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 71 points, missed 27 field goals and missed 16 free throws = net +28
They scored 76 points, missed 23 field goals and missed 8 free throws = net +35

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 71 on 34 two-point attempts, 17 three-point attempts and 19 free throw attempts = 71 of a possible 138 points = 51.4% of possible points scored.
They scored 76 on 31 two-point attempts, 20 three-point attempts and 13 free throw attempts = 76 of a possible 135 points = 56.3% of possible points scored.

Fouls

(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 34 two-point shots and were fouled 14 times = 2.429
They attempted 31 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 2.067
If they’d attempted 34 two-point field goals at that rate, they’d have been fouled 16 times.

Comments:

- This team puts up good numbers- This team puts up good numbers but let’s face it, most of the numbers in a box score are about offense.

- Jesse Edwards NP per 40 hasn’t moved in three games: +20.1. What you see is what you get.

- We’ve out-rebounded every ACC team we’ve played. Go figure.

- The Noles scored 22 points off of our 12 turnovers: we scored 12 off of their 10. Reason: They had 17 fast break points. We had 4. For a time late in the half, Joe was pushing it but then he went back to weaving up the floor with his dribble and that’s why JB replaced him with Symir.

- This was the fourth straight game in which the opposition was more like to draw a foul on a two-point shot than we were.
