TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 9 of our 36 misses = 25.0%
They rebounded 7 of their 27 misses = 25.9%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 11 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.222 points/O-reb
They got 8 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.143 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 7 turnovers – 4 steals = 3 unforced
They had 16 turnovers – 11 steals = 5 unforced

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 15 points from 16 takeovers = 0.9375 points/takeaway
They had 11 points from 7 takeovers = 1.571 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Point s+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 26 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.040 points
They had 19 points in 14 unsettled situations = 1.357 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 29 + 16 = 45
They had 34 + 7 = 41

Hustle Stats
One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too:
We had 29 + 3 + 11 = 43
They had 34 + 1 + 4= 39

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 13 for 24 on twos, (54.1%), 11 for 34 on threes (32.4%) and 15 for 18 on frees (83.3%)
They were 15 for 26 on twos, (57.7%), 4 for 18 on threes (22.2%) and 20 for 24 on frees (83.3%)
Combined percentages were: 1698 (541 + 324 + 833) vs. 1632 (577 + 222 + 833) = +66

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FBP = fast break points
POTO= points off turnovers

We had 20 PIP, 39 POP, 33 OL, 6 TZ, 15 POTO, 12 FBP
They had 30 PIP, 12 POP, 12 OL, 0 TZ, 11 POTO, 11 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 12 FBP in 34 opportunities (35.3%)
They scored 11 FBP in 32 opportunities (34.4%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 36 FCP and 11SCP
They had 20 FCP and 8 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 69 points and our bench scored 5 points
Their starters scored 50 points and their bench scored 12 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 20 of our 24 field goals = 83.3%
They assisted 15 of their 19 field goals = 78.9%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 74 points in 65 possessions = 1.138 points/ possession
They scored 62 points in 64 possessions = 0.969 points/possession
It was a 129 possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 74 points in 67 possessions = 1.104 points/ possession
They scored 62 points in 55 possessions = 1.127 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 74 points, missed 34 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +37
They scored 62 points, missed 25 field goals and missed 4free throws = net +33

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 74 on 24 two point attempts, 34 three point attempts and 18 free throw attempts = 74 of a possible 168 points = 44.0% of possible points scored.
They scored 62 on 26 two point attempts, 18 three point attempts and 24 free throw attempts = 62 of possible 130 points = 47.7% of possible points scored.

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

18-13, 25-22, 14-16, 17-11

Fouls

(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 24 two point shots, attempted 18 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 1.50; 1.125
They attempted 26 two point shots, attempted 24 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 1.625; 1.50
We were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but they got more shots per foul.

Comments

- We couldn’t make a basket in the first 3:32 of the first half and in the first 3:33 of the second half. If that isn’t consistency, what is?

- We were reluctant to go inside but when we did we scored well, hitting 54% of our two pointers and scored 20 points in the paint, almost all of them in the second half. You just have to commit to doing it.

- These are the shooting percentage of the two teams:
54.1% on twos 32.4% on threes 83.3% on frees
57.7% on twos 22.2 % on threes 83.3% on frees
Shouldn’t we be able to tell which team was which?
