The greatest FT shooter in SU BB history and one of the players who helped establish the modern SU BB program, Jimmy Lee has a new book out about free-shooting.

Since he was a plus 90% FT shooter, it might be a good purchase.

Someone can write an entire book about free throw shooting?

Considering how badly so many teams shoot FTs these days, it kind of makes sense that a book can be and should be written.

Jimmy Lee also invented taking a charge. Man, was he good at it.

True!

The best I ever saw.

He used to do it while the offensive player had the ball and was reverse dribbling up the court.

I never saw anybody anticipate that move and get the charge like Jimmy Lee.

A great player who is very much responsible for today's program.

His older brother Mike was great at it, too.

OrangePA is Joel still alive? Any word on our former voice of the Orange?

I really don't know.

The last time I saw him was almost thirty years ago when I saw his son play an interscholastice BB at FM High School.

I haven't heard that he died and it would be given considerable coverage up here. Besides being the long-time "Voice of the Orange", he was the sports director for the lcoal NBC affiate here for decades. Later he was in advewtising and a professor at the newhouse schools. He also did Syracuse Chiefs broadcasts for several years. I assume he is happily retired at this point.

Considering he came to SU in 1946, I would assume he's in his early to mid 80's at this point.

74.7%: http://www.orangehoops.org/HCohen.htm

Jimmy Lee wasn't actually 90%: http://www.orangehoops.org/JLee.htm
But at 85.9% he certainly is quailfied to teach the skill to most everybody.

I think the reason have that memory is there was one year where he was among the nation's leaders in FT % and topped 90%. It's probably that memory.

Edit: looking at your link, I see that he finished at 88+% his first year. That's probably the year I'm thinking of.

GMac had a 4 year % of 88.8 with his freshman and senior years over 90%.

I still think Jimmy Lee was a better player and better shooter.

Damn the stats!

Gerry was streaky and had a killer instinct for the big shot. Of course, Jimmy Lee will have that reputation forever because of his shot in the North Carolina game, but I don't know that SU has ever had a better big game performer than the pit bull from Scranton.
