Class of 2023 New Commit: Donny Scott (GA / ON: Hill Academy) Defense

Donny Scott, D, Hill Academy (Ont.) / Thunder
Ending the camp as the Defensive MVP after a great showing in the ASG, Scott has just about all of the qualities that you'd want in a college defenseman combined with considerable upside. He's big, plays with a mean streak, communicates well, shows proper awareness off-ball and is all over the field, including the offensive end where he's known to put in a point or two on a regular basis. It's exciting to think about what he'll be able to do with two years under the legendary Brodie Merrill, as the Georgia native will have no shortage of suitors this fall.

21. Donny Scott, D, Hill Academy (Ont.) | Thunder

An Atlanta product that through this summer as top five '23 defender. Has a lot of upside, so he's that much more intriguing. Two years with Brodie Merrill will be huge. Has a solid 6'0, 180-pound frame and plays tough 1-on-1 D. Big-time threat in transition. Excellent motor. Loves to play box. May need to work on his approach. Very strong off-ball. Seems to be a lax rat and a student of the game.

Jeez, he’s a beast in the highlight tape. Wish there was some context in this write up to the “May need to work on his approach” comment that was (seemingly) dropped randomly into the review.

The combo of physicality and skill this kid plays with is fun to watch.

Gotta love the staff capitalizing on the reverse migration of a GA kid to Ontario (with the assist from LB3).

Donny Scott, D, Kennesaw, Ga.
The recent Syracuse commit plays a quiet game and makes very few mistakes. Hovers over his matchup and waits for the right opportunity to strike and make plays. Physically imposing with sound footwork and positioning.
