Casey Vock ‏@cvock Peter Fiorini, son of longtime Baldwinsville NY coach, commits to Syracuse. Big, smart '18 @OrangeCrushLax mid was pursued by top schools.

That's great. I always liked Pete Sr. Haven't seen him in years but used to regularly. Didn't know his son was a top lax player. Pete Sr. retired I think.

There's another local kid that is going to walk on. I won't mention his name right now because it's not my place. But he's a darn good player who made 1st team all league last year and I wouldn't be surprised if he was All CNY this season.

Yep, 2014 was his last season.

Yes, he would enter SU this fall.

I've never paid attention enough but do walk ons ever get any PT on the lax team?

Yea I know they split some scholies. But do any kids that get zero ever play or is it too hard to tell since there's a lot of partial scholie kids?

For other programs yes, if your asking specifically Syracuse the answer for the most part is No. If your "walking on" at Syracuse for Lacrosse you chances of getting PT is pretty slim unless you had a unique skille ie ability to faceoff, really hard shot etc. Best case scenario for the player your referencing is he becomes a practice warrior who continues to improve and maybe plays a bit as a senior, that has happened before with lesser known players.

Since its inception a handful of years ago, Maverik Showtime – set at Western Connecticut State in Danbury (CT) – has acted as the nation’s premier individual showcase for rising lacrosse prospects in the rising sophomore and junior classes . Players work through three games a day in hopes of making the All-Star Game, which can be considered as one of the biggest honors of the summer.

This year’s event has been off the charts, featuring close to 100 Division I commits between the two age groups. Coaches and evaluators spent close to an hour coming up with this list, coming up with painstaking decisions. Without further ado, here are the four rosters:

Peter Fiorini, Midfield, Baldwinsville (N.Y.)/Orange Crush — Syracuse Fiorini’s one of many tall, athletic midfielders to commit early in the 2018 class, but I’m not sure I have seen a player who does more in transition and in between the boxes than this kid. He is like a big deer running around out there making plays. He can win the race to the loose ball, get up the field with it, and he’s got incredible vision to be able to pump passes on a dime in transition, high knees chugging up the field. He has gotten better since last fall and a year on varsity in Central New York. He has put up solid stat lines this summer and does so usually with assists. He is definitely the type of player that makes the play leading to goals, or the pass before the assist. Fiorini has tremendous potential.

Peter Fiorini, Midfield, Baldwinsville (N.Y.)/Orange Crush, 2018 - Syracuse

Syracuse looks pretty smart for taking Fiorini early. The long-legged, athletic Fiorini is an incredible player in between the lines, but has emerged this summer as a smart, unselfish midfielder who distributes the ball well on offense and makes a lot of things happen if he brings the ball into the box in transition. One thing that stood out at this event about Fiorini was his determination. He cleared the ball through a bunch of checks on one series and outhustled players to loose balls on numerous occasions. He is the epitome of a workhorse and he has showcased that all summer long. He was ever-present on the wing at the Orange Crush event and collected too many groundballs to count.

Sounds like a d-middie for an offense that wants to push the ball in transition

Peter Fiorini, Midfield, Orange Crush, 2018

Fiorini is another member of the Orange Crush who continues to improve and projects as an impact player in college. The tall, athletic midfielder can barrel down the lane in a hurry and uses his size and speed to initiate up high in the box and is unselfish in looking to feed the ball. But he netted numerous goals off his own dodges, able to protect his stick while moving at full speed using his shoulders to shield his hands. He uses simple form and chugs his legs and makes a lot of good things happen. He is a horse in the middle of the field and created plays to get possession back for his team throughout the weekend. He’s another one of the Orange Crush players committed to Syracuse.

great video. got me thinking why not use a couple of helmet cams on key players like the goalies and star attack players during the espn games. kind of like nascar did. it would be great to see field vision and be easy to retrofit.
