I'll never forget his first reaction when he walked into the Dome, "Holy Crap! Look at this place!!"

Someone said, "Wait until you see it with 34,000 people going crazy!" He just shook his head.

He and Goodluck were like two wide-eyed kids.

After Midnight Madness he hung around as everyone was waiting for Melo to emerge from Stadium Control. The two of them were like in their glory because they got to chill with Anthony. It was a surreal night.

This is a late report from NBE

Yep, I remember. Noel and Goodluck were outside the Dome just standing around, interacting with Cuse fans, when Orangeyes and I came over to meet them. Nice guys, seemed overwhelmed by the evening, but in a good way...almost as if they were still standing around outside because they didn't want the night to end. Took pictures with us...OE, you should post them!

I'm assuming they saw Carmelo make a grand exit that night...police escort out of the Dome with a small motorcade of black SUVs...with a crowd of Cuse fans screaming & cheering as if The Beatles themselves had just passed. I hope that in that moment Noel understood just how much Syracuse supporters love and support our former players & just how much of a "rockstar" Carmelo had become in his one year here. The same feeling I had when President Bill Clinton's motorcade passed by me (and other Syracuse grads) on the morning of May 11th, 2003 as I was standing outside of the Dome with cap & gown on, waiting to enter, was pretty similar to the feeling I got hearing the screams and shouts of adulation as SU's own Carmelo Anthony was whisked by that night. Such a great night to be a Cuse Basketball fan. I will never regret driving up from Buffalo for that non-game event.

Afterwards, I was convinced that, since Noel was in attendence, (got his picture taken with Melo, hung out with the team, met up with Philly rapper Meek Mill, and met alumni such as DC, John Wallace, Flynn, etc) that no matter what would happen afterwards in his recruitment, Syracuse would always be a strong candidate for his commitment. So I have to laugh when a recruiting service fails to list Syracuse as an option for Nerlens...because if, after experiencing something like Syracuse Midnight Madness 2011, possibly a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of Syracuse Basketball past and present, Nerlens Noel still doesn't understand how special this program is, I'm not sure I want him then.

Had a similar experience, only decades earlier. It was the day John . Kennedy's motorcade drove past the street corner where I lived, September 29, 1960 during the final phases of his presidential campaign. You can't imagine the effect he had on people unless you were there. It was a bright, sunshiny day. He was sitting atop the back seat of his limo, flashing the most charismatic smile I have ever seen in person. Kennedy had the daughters of the prominent Republicans from the Sedgwick district screaming and nearly fainting. One was heard to say, "I'd vote for him, just on his looks alone." Blasphemy, if her parents could have heard her.

Here is an article which contains the speach he gave that day at Hotel Syracuse

Wow. Awesome story dude. I haven't wanted a recruit this bad in a long time. Can you imagine him and Rak at the bottom of the zone at the same time? Talk about the No-Fly Zone. No wold ever get layups on us.

Me too, but in Dallas. I was mowing this grassy hill area right near where the motorcade was coming down the street. I was trying to hurry up 'cause the President was coming and I wanted to see him, but I had a job to finish. Damn mower was coughing, wheezing and backfiring. Next thing I know a dark car pulls up, guys in suits Toss me in, I'm whisked away to some place, I don't even know where. Hours later somebody says that I'm the wrong guy. The put me on a bus back to Dallas, but when I got back, I'd been fired for leaving the mower out in a public aea, unattended.
