Not much of a crowd at TBT tonight... | Syracusefan.com

Not much of a crowd at TBT tonight...

... and it is pretty quiet. Would have been a different scene in Baltimore if Boeheim's Army were there. (Arena seems like a morgue on the ESPN broadcast of the Team Fredette game).

Unless you are 1 of the few hundred Marquette fans outside of wherever Marquette is from, Jimmer is the only reason to go to it tonight. As of this post Eberlin Drive is up 10 over Jimmer... there will be no real reason to go to the championship. there just is no emotional attachment to overseas elite.

I think you're correct. The teams with a college affiliation (e.g., SU, Marquette, OSU) have a fan base. Not so much for those with a random assortment of players).

Definitely, but the random assortment teams seem to fair better in the long run. I will watch just because it is exciting. Jimmer is starting to heat up now as Elam time is coming soon.

Yes, It has become a very close and exciting game. Have to root for Jimmer (upstate kid).

There is no reason that Jimmer isnt a 6th man on an NBA team. None.

There were 2 or 3 Professional men at all time strategizing to stop him and only him and he still found ways to buckets.

Agree, the miscellaneous teams seem to do better, but I can't say I have any interest in watching a random assortment of players in this thing if they aren't playing BA.

Yes, there's a reason. He's reportedly borderline uncoachable, and doesn't contribute in other ways beyond scoring. So when he isn't scoring at a high clip, he's a liability in most other respects.

I dont know about the uncoachable so i wont argue that. But plenty of role players are uncoachable and liabilities.

the dude can flat out score. 2/3 professionals at all times were trying to stop him and he scored. he would never be double teamed in the NBA. he would have no issues scoring.

He would never leave China to be the 12th man on an NBA team.

on 500+ NBA career 3's he is hitting 38% which includes a season he hit 48%!! Please don't come at me with that if you have no idea what you are talking about. There are probably 30 teams in the NBA that would take a flyer on him as a minimum bench player shooter.

He is no worse defensively than Kyle Korver. In the same ball park as a shooter. and 10x better overall offensively than Korver.

Then why haven't they?

That should begin to put things in perspective.

Does anyone know what his contract in China pays him? that may be another reason he's happy there.

Disagree. Kyle Korver is 6’7, made an all star team, and is a career 44, 43, 88 shooter. Jimmer is 6’2, was a bench warmer, and a career 41, 38, 88 shooter.

Korver has been in the league since ‘04 and is still a key player. Jimmer lasted 4 years and was never a key player.

I don’t disagree that there is little to no talent difference between guys like Jimmer and a lot of the end of the bench guys in the league.

Korver is 1 of the 4 best shooters of all time. I said jimmer was in the same ball park. But Korver is def the better shooter.

It’s easy to shoot 43% overall when your only game inside 3 is wide open layups and wide open uncontested 18 footers. I believe he didn’t even dunk for like 10 or 11 years which is more insane for a 6’7” starter than Yinke Dare’s assist streak.

You can’t compare Korvers overall offensive repertoire to Jimmers. You just can’t. Korver very well may be one of the most one dimensional players in NBA history.

He averages 2 made 3’s a game and 1.4 made 2’s a game over his career.

Why haven’t they signed him as a 6th man or a 12th man?

Jimmer probably doesn’t even look at minimum NBA deals.

Oh... I see. He'd be a big time contributor on 30 teams, but is turning THEM down.

The reality is: the hype surrounding Jimmer far exceeds the actual capabilities Jimmer provides. He's had a multi year NBA career, and played for multiple teams, and the results were increasingly diminishing returns. NBA squads have had more than enough opportunity to scout him over several hundred games, with five different NBA teams. That the chinese league is his best option speaks volumes.

Against borderline-NBA caliber talent, he looks pretty good. Against actual NBA talent, he's supbar.

If a team thought that he could improve their roster, they'd be able to pay him a LOT more than any foreign league could muster.

I think you’re misunderstanding my point.

30 teams would take a flyer on him as a minimum deal player. And they probably wouldn’t even give him a legit shot. Maybe because he has a reputation of being uncoachable. As I said - never heard that he was coachable or uncoachable. So I won’t argue that rumor either way.

He makes more in China than the minimum deal. Plus he’s the man there and prob makes millions in endorsements. Why would he entertain a minimum deal?

You can certainly argue he’s only torching borderline NBA talent. But I’d argue he’s torching double and triple teams and junk defense from borderline NBA talent literally geared at STOP JIMMER AT ALL COSTS which he would never face in a million years at the NBA level.

Not sure why you are so aggressive at minimizing how talented Jimmer is. My guess is that if Boeheim gave him the scholarship as hindsight has proven 1 million percent he should have, you would probably be defending Jimmer. It’s probably somewhat similar except opposite for Cuse fans to the Melo NBA bust or superstar argument.

So... just to summarize -- this boils down to a criticism of JB not offering Jimmer back in the day?

Hopefully, lightning won't strike twice with the current guy we're pursuing.

Reality is Korver fits perfectly into the role that teams want to play, and despite being one dimensional he’s been an extremely effective offensive player.

Jimmer may have more tools in his skill set, but not enough for it to matter at his height. You don’t see many 6’2 one dimensional shooting specialists anymore. Those guys gotta be able to do more, and Jimmer didn’t look to be special at those other things at the NBA level. I think he has the talent to be a solid role player. Sounds like he wouldn’t be happy with that, if these reports are true? Maybe he’s more happy being a star overseas? I believe he’s even got a signature shoe over there.

Your summary is borderline horrific. I literally just thought of that less than 3 minutes ago.

You also just said Jimmer looked “pretty good” in the TBT. Please summarize your thoughts on Jimmer for us. Because you either didn’t watch a Jimmer play or you are just a Jimmer hater.

Yep, basically exactly in agreement. Other than I think Jimmer could make a little bit more of a difference for a middling or even bad team. I certainly wouldn’t put him on Celtics or Warriors but he could be a poor mans or maybe even a similar player as IT on Celtics 2 yrs ago.

Good grief--your assessment of his NBA potential is what's horrific.

I've given you numerous opportunities to back down from your hyperbole. You've turned this into a diatribe about how I'd support Jimmer if only JB had offered him... like he should have.

The reality is that if NBA teams wanted Jimmer in the league, he'd be in the league. But they don't, so he isn't. For a variety of reasons.

Right.

Right.

Right.

But according to you, I'm just a Jimmer hater, despite raising many of the same points in the post made by OrangeDW that you agreed so much with above. Right?
