1. Need to hope Kyle doesn’t mail it in from here on out so that we have a chance to find someone promising in the portal. Next year’s schedule can be a disaster if we don’t find someone good.

2. Game breaker on O: whether it’s a running back or receiver - we DESPERATELY lack a guy who can make you miss and take it to the house. Or a receiver that you can’t play press coverage because he can blow by you. great teams have multiple game breakers. I’ll settle for 1.

3. Running game coordinator: need to hire a guy like Marrone or the dazzler to coach these guys up. Being 1 dimensional just kills you against good defenses. I’ll add I really wish Allen was a senior because he runs like a 40-year-old man. Tough as nails but perhaps the slowest, least shifty RB1 we’ve ever had. With a line that struggles to open big holes we really need someone who hits the hole fast and can make something happen.

4. Special teams coordinator

5. Pass rushers, Linebackers and Safeties with speed

OL OL OL
This ^^^^^. A million times. You need to be able to run the ball, control the clock and protect the QB. It gives an average QB more time in the pocket and elevates his game. Without a solid OL, you aren't going to attract a good QB in the portal and a good QB leads to playmakers wanting to join. A good OL also sustains drives and keeps the D off the field and rested.

I hate to say it but we need a dual threat quarterback next year because it's not like our o-line is going to drastically improve.
But what good dual threat will come here knowing he will be running for his life?

OL OL OL
I would then only add to that: OL!

We flat out whiff on blocks when running the ball, pass blocking and also when screen passes are thrown and we send a lineman or two downfield. Watch the game again if you can.

This is an area we knew was weak coming into the season, so it should be no surprise. A line that is still developing along with a QB who is not known for his running, and sometimes rolls into pressure, is a bad combination.

Football is still won and lost on the line. Offensive line is the least glamorous position, so I understand how hard it is to play. I would say player development here is key for Fran at Syracuse. Take care of that and the 3 star skill players can look like 4 and 5 stars. Heck it can even help make a defense look better since it often translates into more TOP.

Will be very curious what we don’t prepare for VT. They will pressure us. Do we put Mang in at FB to block? Change some players?

Mang and Villari didnt block at all either. It was bad every where.

The OLine is atrocious. Barry Sanders in his prime isn't going to gain many yards. I really like Allen and Willis as backs, but they have little to no chance to do anything. Get that shored up (big ask, I know), and the offense is on another level.

Defensively we need guys who can rush the passer. Not sure if that is more scheme related as it seems we don't typically send much more than 3 or 4, but a playmaker on the edge would be huge. One guy alone, can't do it all himself. I think Diggs has been good, but with no other threats, it's tough for him to make a ton of plays. Having Wax back should help.

OL is really hard to fix via portal. Everybody needs to improve their line and there is an extremely finite amount of P4 level OLinemen available in the portal.

Have to fix it with your high school recruiting but sometimes that takes more time than you are allotted...

The ten billionth example of the stupidity of the meathead approach of bringing more people into the box to create "matchups" with guys who aren't any good instead of just putting a fast guy over there that they have to cover

Babers was a weird quitter so we gotta do everything different, I get it

Kyle isn't going to mail it in. He wants to play on Sundays, and now he has to erase that performance from people's heads.

He needs to be better, as does the rest of the offense. Sucks that we don't appear to have anyone who can legit stretch a defense. A couple of pump fakes would go a long way in a game like that, but not if the WR can't run away.

VT plays a similar style D, so better be watching a lot of film this week.

I agree

- Some of the coaching hires have been a bit suspect and need looked at. Particular on ST and the Oline.

- QB. Not super worried about that in this day and age. We will find someone.

- OL OL OL OL OL

- Corners

Any answer here that doesn't include oline is evidence that you don't really understand football. It is by far our weakest unit. McCord has been able to mask it to a point, but couldn't last night.

Edit: I would spend whatever it took to get an oline guru.

You're going to do more with a stout OL and a bunch of 3 star skill position players than you will with a crap OL and highly touted WRs/RBs.
