Bring in an offensive coordinator who has a zone running scheme and is able to counter it with pin & pulls, crackbacks, jet motion, etc. With the way we recruit, we need to be able to make teams respect the run and open up the pass. Not saying we need to run the ball more but that our running attack is so inefficient. We always struggle to run the ball and a lot of that is due to the poor scheme. Zone running will force teams to over pursue and stress defenses horizontally in the running scheme. Opens up so many counters running wise or off play action. The scheme offensively is just not good and add onto the fact the OLine and QB aren't world beaters anyways. When this is the case, you need an effective zone running scheme to be your base.

Babers' struggles offensively comes from an inefficient running game and this stems from a poor scheme and obviously we need a new OLine coach bc the presnap penalities are not only unacceptable but embarrassing.

If you want to go fast, you give up a lot on offense. Can't have multiple formations if you are trying to go fast.

Bring in different personnel- 12 or 13. Make the defense respect the run and force the LBs in hook curls to take step 2-3 steps down bc of the run on play action and run 2-3 man routes where you will have protection with extra blockers. Still need to hire a competent OLine coach tho bc our OLine coach from any competent fan perspective knows he has no idea what he's doing.

So, Lynch and Dino have been joined at the hip. The offense is Dino’s offense. It has worked in other stops, and worked last year. Need competent OTs, a stronger C, and a stronger, decisive QB. With what we have in those roles, good luck scheming to success.

We don’t even try to go fast anymore because we are always behind the chains

Yup worked in the Mac and when we had a senior qb who could improvise

That’s right, but BGSU beat some bigger teams, and Dino upset VT and Clemson before Dungey was a senior. Mahoney subbed and put up big numbers against Pitt and Wake. think we need a dual QB to provide more running balance. But the bigger point is firing Lynch isn’t going to happen when he is paired with Dino running Dino’s schemes.

You want Dino as the coach you get his scheme. It worked fine with Dungey.

After seeing how we moved the ball with Welch I think we have a problem at QB. Devito is just a big arm with no awareness right now.

1.5 yards per carry tonight. Have we ever had a lower average?

Our offense looked 10x more potent with a dual threat QB who could barely throw a short pass and just launched Maddenesque bombs every other play.

That alone should tell you how needed a dual threat QB is.

It’s the great equalizer for teams that can’t recruit/develop a strong OL and don’t have skill position talent to take over games.

I don’t think we need to change our system, but we really need to get some competent dual threat QBs in here... and not just one.

It would also help if we didn’t have one of the bottom 5 worst lines in D-1.

A dual threat QB is only need when you have a terrible offensive line. If Dino isn't going to upgrade there via talent and or coaching then he better start recruiting different QBs.

If your OL can't block the scheme doesn't much matter.

Why is our OL so bad in year 4? Somebody needs to take the blame.
I it’s simple we have not been able to recruit talent. Sure he has brought in a good player here or there but not enough. This next class isn’t all that great either. They need to evaluate where and who they are going after. How many times are they going to hear no and continue down the same road. It’s time for some changes.

ED also had an OL that could block better than this version. Dungey effectively altered the scheme with his running when comparing to TD.

We either need a QB/linebacker hybrid that can take a continuous beating, an OL that can block, or a scheme that gets the ball out of the QBs hands faster.

In my mind the easiest one of those 3 options is accepting that our OL is not good and scheming around it. I know nothing about football, but that just seems to be common sense.

If you are talking about next year and beyond we absolutely need better talent in the OL, especially at OT. Vettorello is starting as a RS-F — presumably he develops year to year. Need a grad transfer or juco (or two) to upgrade the line.

Also for next year a dual QB would make a big difference. Not to take a beating, but to provide a second running threat, keeping the defenses from teeing off on the QB. Lots of QBs can roll out and make plays — does not seem to be a skill Devito has at this stage.

As for getting the ball out faster, we have tried that with swing passes, bubble screens, short routes and slants. Hasn’t been effective enough but not for lack of trying.

Getting the ball out faster was one of the schematic changes that Mora commented on last night - said that Leach did that at WSU to compensate for poor line play.
