My wife and I are trying to decide what to do for our 2nd anniversary next month, and I saw that BWI to Bermuda is a relatively inexpensive and quick 2-hour flight via AirTran.

Has anyone here ever been to Bermuda? If so, would you recommend it? Is there a particular resort that you like? Any particular can't miss activities or sights?

Thank you in advance.

My parents went. Liked it but pricy.
The pound is the currency, so whatever the exchange rate is currently may influence your decision.

Lol..no I was 24, broke and quit my job 1 week prior to getting married. Certainly a few lean years in he beginning.

Highly recommend.. Pompano Beach Club is great
you will need to get on a scooter or take the bus or a taxi - gringos aren't allowed to rent cars..

The Hamilton Princess is great hotel and downtown. They also have the South Hamilton Princes on the west side of the island. Also 9 Beaches is an awesome spot. There are also lots of guest houses all over the island. Places to visit. Dock Yard , St Georges, The crystal caves. Horse Shoe Bay Is one the best beaches on the west end of the island. Whatever you do don’t rent a moped, use taxis instead. The Bermudian Dollar is equal to one us dollar.

Mid-to-Late May, and just for a long weekend, e.g. fly there Thursday, fly back Sunday.

Princes mentioned above are very nice...somewhat pricy as the whole island is. It is very friendly to Americans and has okay but not great food. Watch out for Taxis...$$$$$...rent a scooter and go wherever you want. One of my favorite islands...!

I was thinking the same thing-lol. His wife married well.

Cool but don’t go the weekend of May 24th , which is Bermuda Day a public holiday, most business on the island will be closed and everyone will be on the beach it will be difficult to travel. Other that enjoy your stay

Great advice - thank you. That's exactly the type of thing I wouldn't account for, and then I'd get the "ugh, why did I let you be in charge of planning this" stink-eye for the duration of the trip.

Spent some time in Bermuda and Aruba for work after college. Aruba was 10x better, but Bermuda is no slouch. More "riff raff" in Bermuda. Aruba felt more secluded.

why not rent a moped - I guess I can understand that if you just stay in Hamilton..
but I think at least one trip around the island on a scooter would be mandatory..
It's at least 70 dollars to take a taxi from St. Georges to the dockyard..

I could understand this - don't rent a scooter if you've been drinking..

My main reservation with Bermuda is the weather. It is extremely mild relative to other popular Caribbean beach locales since it is so north. Equivalent to spending a weekend in the Outer Banks, NC. You should be ok in late May but I wouldn't rely on it much earlier.

Went to Bermuda about 14 years ago and stayed at Ariel Sands, which is owned by actor Michael Douglas. His mom is a native of Bermuda. He happened to be there and we spent about 20 minutes talking. His dad (Kirk Douglas) grew up in Amsterdam and he still has aunts and cousins around the Albany area. Talking to him was like talking to anyone else you might run into overseas where you just happen to know people in common.

Ariel Sands was really nice. Kind of a small place right on the water. We would definitely go back there. We went in June and the ocean was still cold. Bermuda is not the Caribbean, so don't think the water temp is going to be 80. More like 60 in June.

We took buses everywhere. Very easy to get around and you get to engage with the "natives". BTW, everyone we met there was very nice. Very British and more formal than other islands, but it was a very nice atmosphere. However, if you are going there to party, I would choose another spot. From what I remember it is very quiet and romantic.

If you are going late May and want to lay on the beach, go to bars or clubs and maybe a casino, I could tell you about at least 10 other places that I have been that would be much better. If you just want to hangout with your wife, do a little sightseeing, have dinner and a lot of quiet time, Bermuda is perfect.

The roads are very small and we drive on the left side of road. The Bus can get you to dockyard as well the ferry .After a few rum swizzles and few dark & stormies , riding the moped is very challenging. Lots tourist have accidents year round. The tourist mopeds are limited to 35km. The island residents are racing past you…I grew up there when I go back it takes me about two days to get comfortable on a moped

When my brother was working in Bermuda my family would stay at he Fairmont South Hampton. Its by horse shoe bay which is a great beach, and also has a ferry which brings you to the fairmont Hamilton if you wanted to spend a day in the town rather then on the beach

I have been to Bermuda three or four times, but not recently.

The times I went I stayed at Elbow Beach - can't beat the lanai's there, and for a smaller less expensive place at White Sands (now Grape Bay Beach). I have no idea how much those resorts may have changed. At the Elbow lanai's - nothing beat breakfast brought to your room and dining on the patio overlooking the ocean for guaranteed romance.

When there, be sure to rent Mopeds. At the far end of the island - get a fish & chips lunch in St George - several nice places overlooking the water.

If I remember right there is also an old fort to go through, I believe on the opposite side to St. George.

Can't miss the pink sand beach & I am also re-collecting a grotto that is a great tourist trap.

Also, plenty of nice pubs including the famous Rum Swizzle Inn.

No need to mention Hamilton for shopping and dining.

Enjoy !!
