Without direct knowledge, I suspect that happens at more private high schools and even public schools than we would like to believe. Have you seen some of these high school stadiums and facilities? Especially in the south? (Looking at you, Texas)

This is a tough one.

Embarrassingly, I'm sure that there are things I'm just not remembering.

But maybe the stabbing incident at Sadie's?

Refresh my memory on this one

That's something that happened to players in the program, but it really doesn't qualify as something the program itself has done, which I believe was the question. It certainly was a tragic incident that could have had a far worse outcome. And Pettijohn, Bird, DeLoatch- 3 kids from our traditional recruiting area (Massachusetts, NY (Schenectady) and NJ. Some good times, stabbings aside.

My votes for most controversial things our program has done (in my lifetime) would include, the whole P is fired/not fired thing with Gross Darryl, "retiring" 44, hiring GROB, and, really I guess that's most of it that I can recall.

Basketball, on the other hand...

Syracuse Eight

Coach Ben was slipping as a coach who didn't adapt well to change. This boycott killed SU as a national player for 15+ years.

Yeah, this was the first thing that popped into my mind, even though I wasn't fully aware of the details, since it was far before my time.

It's somewhat bizarre that Syracuse, while having a history as a haven for black athletes, also still had their problems with racism and segregation.

The "shut up and dribble" crowd is still here.
